Overview

Will Riker believed it was an honor to belong to the Starfleet Academy® Band, a position few first-year cadets achieve. He becomes friends with fellow cadet Geordi La Forge, the band's roadie, who looks forward to visiting exotic planets and hanging out with the band. But Riker isn't so sure. He's tired of being the butt of practical jokes -- standard treatment for all band newcomers -- and threatens to quit.

Then comes the big competition on the beautiful resort planet of Pacifica. T he Starfleet Academy Band is so good that they attract the unwanted attention of an alien warship. They are given a choice: perform for alien troops or be destroyed.

But when the cadets arrive on war-torn Elofim, they're caught in the crossfire with no escape. Suddenly, Riker isn't worrying about leaving the band. Instead, he and Geordi have to find a way off Elofim -- alive!

This, being the first book in the series, was very touching and made you feel as if you were really there. I loved it, and it made me ready to read more! Buy this book, and the rest af the series, too, and you will be glad you did. The whole series would be great for book clubs, too!

I recently finished this book and already I am eagerly awaiting the second installment supposedly due out in March of 2004. This is one of the few times you see Picard take a very 'Captain Kirk' stance on following the rules. A must read, and must own collection for a Star Trek Enthusiast.

This series of stories leads the reader up the events of the epic movie "Nemesis" and the wedding of Troi and Riker. Furthermore, it gives the reader a glimpse of life for Wesley Crusher, a newly born traveler. This book prompts you to read on in order to learn how and why the characters are choosing to move onto new assignments. Great read!

Of all the Dominion War book that I have read, this one got to be the most exciting one. It give so many details on where the Enterprise-E was during the Dominion War. One of many book that should have been recommended to everyone. Read all the books in this series. I assure you you won't be disappointed.

This is a must for Star Trek: The Next Generation fans, or every Star Trek Fan for that matter. Vornholt is able to keep the the suspense and action up through out the story. I read this book at my school library 2 times, and no matter how many times I read it, it just keeps getting better. But, my school library dosen't have Book 2 and 3 yet, so I'll have to wait to findout what happens. Keep it up, Vornholt!

Dominion War #1 was a very enjoyable book and should appeal to all those trekies who long for the action/combat oriented storylines. I was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did, given the emphasis placed on a covert operation vs. the stand up fight between fleets. pro: Gave a poignant, if not detailed, impression of the slowly crumbling Federation war effort and rear-action hardships that gave the story an excellent sense of realism and urgency. con: The main storyline is resolved EXTREMELY quickly. One secondary storyline collapses as it converges with the main story and the other two are completely abandoned leaving the reader to wonder why they were developed in the first place. I couldn't put the book down, but felt very dissappointed by the weak ending. All in all, a good read.
