Gives you the back story of Luke's first struggles understanding the force. Also, the book series fills in the gap between episode 4 and 5. Couldn't put it down.

Target is about a deal gone wrong between Luke Skywalker, a powerful banker and an assassin called X7, this assassin is calling himself Tobin Elad. Leia's data card has been stolen and the whole Rebellion is relying on it. So Han, Luke, Chewbaca and Leia go to find the bankers main headquarters. After they get to the office Luke finds out that he is going to have to be in a pod race to get the data card back. Now they have to escape and travel to their next location were X7 will make his move. This book has positive and negative aspects. One positive aspect of the book is Luke participating in his first pod race ever. Another positive aspect is learning about Luke's Jedi training. Some negative things about this book are that we skip some time periods that might have been full of background history of the story. C3PO and R2D2 are not in most of this story. I think they are funny and could have helped Luke, Lea, Han and Chewbaca through some of their battles. The author's writing style is clear enough to understand the point of the book. He uses a third person writing style that makes it easy to read. Although with all of the character's names it can become complicated if you are not familiar with the story line. Since they are not really what you would picture them like, knowing the history of each character could make it easier to follow along. I recommend this book to all Star Wars fans. It was presented in Issue 107 of Star Wars Insider. The next book in the series is called, Hostage. I thought Target was a great book. I hope you do to!

"Target" is set in the period between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. It starts right after the Death Star is destroyed. I enjoyed being able to jump right into the story because I knew the back story, plus what was coming in the future. The plot is set around the Empire trying to find out which Alliance pilot destroyed the Death Star. The Alliance is out of money and have to travel to the planet Muunilinst to get to their secret accounts. Luke, Han Solo, Chewie and Leia are on their way there. They hook up with another pilot who conveniently helps them in a battle. They think he is a rebel just like them, but he is really an assassin from the Empire sent in search of the Alliance pilot. There is a lot of dramatic irony here because the assassin doesn't know that Luke is the one he is looking for, and they don't figure out that he is an assassin. You are always waiting and wondering who will catch who first. I like that. I also like that Alex Wheeler stays true to the humor between Han and the other characters....and he also keeps the ongoing conflicts with Leia. Those are funny, and the dialogue he uses sounds just like what these well known characters would say. I am very happy that the droids are involved in the story. It wouldn't be the same without them. Plus they add a different kind of humor to a serious story. I felt that it was easy to read. It's perfect for my age level, (which is 6th grade) and a couple of grades higher.... The author is very descriptive and fast paced, which made it no problem being involved in the story right away. There are some good battles which keep things moving along. He provides lots of details for new characters, scenes, and settings. Best of all, he doesn't waste time being too wordy describing the well known characters. I don't have a problem with him doing that because I think most people interested in the book already know who everyone is, and don't want to waste time their time reading about it. That would be like someone wasting space describing Spiderman. I would recommend this book to any Star Wars fan around my age. This book really does a good job filling in some of the missing pieces in the Star Wars saga. My only complaint is that it didn't have a conclusion, and ended with a cliffhanger. It didn't say part I on the cover anywhere, so I wasn't expecting that. The good thing is that there is a sequel called "Hostage" already out, and part III "Renegade' due out any day now. (May 2009) I have already picked up part II, so I am a fan of this series.

I absolutely love this book! I don't know about you, but I payed a lot of attention to most of the small parts. One of those parts is with Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and Tobin Elad getting hit with poison darts. Luke was dodging them left and right, before coming face to face with a stormtrooper. That was one of the most horrifying parts of the book. Luke getting stabbed twice with a force pike. I almost passed out myself! Then, before the podrace, Luke gets set on fire from the crash after the podracer's engine flamed out! I have to say, poor Luke has been hit with many injuries already! This is just book one! I'm already reading the next book, Hostage, which is also good. Once I finish that, I'll be onto Renegade! Enjoy!
