Star Wars The Han Solo Trilogy #2: The Hutt Gambit by A. C. Crispin

Here is the second novel in the blockbuster new trilogy that reveals the never-before-told story of the young Han Solo.  Set before the Star Wars(r) movie adventures, these books chronicle the coming-of-age of the galaxy's most famous con man, smuggler and thief.

Solo is now a fugitive from the Imperial Navy.  But he has made a valuable friend in a former Wookiee slave named Chewbacca, who has sworn Han a  life debt.  Han will need all the help he can get.  For the Ylesian Hutts have dispatched the dreaded bounty hunter Boba Fett to track down the man who already outsmarted them once.  But Han and Chewie find themselves in even bigger trouble when they agree to lend their services to the crime lords Jiliac and Jabba the Hutt.  Suddenly the two smugglers are thrust into the middle of a battle between the might of the Empire and the treachery of their outlaw allies...a battle where even victory means death!

Features a bonus section following the novel that includes a primer on the Star Wars expanded universe, and over half a dozen excerpts from some of the most popular Star Wars books of the last thirty years!

This book is the second installment in the Han solo trilogy. I found this story to be well written and a enjoyable read. I thought the writing was more complex and interesting than the last book. I can't wait to dig into the final book in this series.

The characters in this chapter of the Han Solo trilogy are more familiar than the ones in "The Paradise Snare", and that is what is interesting about the story. This is the story where Han meets many of the friends and enemies that had in the movies. It is an excellent read.

Great story, but BN sent me a copy without the LEGENDS banner. Not a big deal, but it is for a collector like myself.

The Solo Trilogy was the first none-novelization trilogy I read, and a major step in my becoming a fan of the Star Wars Books. This chapter tells how Han and Chewie met, and why they teamed up. Explains why Han became a smuggler and how he and Chewie came to work for Jabba. Also how Han and Lando met, and shows the first time Han saw the Falcon - it was love at first sight. This brings the audience into the minds of Hutt Rulers and the Empire's Moffs and Generals. Intense social warfare is waged between Hutt Clans. Later there is a major space battle between the smugglers and the empire. The very end includes a brief appearance by Darth Vader.

This book is AWESOME!!!!!!! It first introduces Chewbacca and how he came to be a part of Han Solo's life. It also introduces Lando Calrissian and the Millenium Falcon. It goes into how he became a smuggler after he gave up trying to live a legitamite life. Jabba the Hutt hires Han and it also introduces Boba Fett into Han's life. Overall, an AMAZING book!!!!!!!!!

The Hutt Gambit is just as good or better than Paradise Snare. From the name of the book to the great story telling its a must read.

Where the trilogy could have picked up, it doesn't. The melodrama increases and the progression of story becomes more sloppy.
