Starting Over is a series of travel pieces centered in a 15 month backpacking sabbatical the author took, traveling around the world. It attempts to give a personal sense of each of the 15 countries, its people and culture, and the author's experiences there. Each chapter is also stylistically different. New chapters have been added for other countries, and a final concluding chapter has been written attempting to make sense of what the author learned about himself from traveling for an extensive period of time. The writing is meant to be fun, informative, entertaining, and thought-provoking.

About the Author
Dr. Allen Ashby was born in Virginia in 1943, grew up in North Carolina, and spent his childhood summers at his grandparents' house on the James River in Newport News, Virginia. He got a BA from UNC Chapel Hill, spent a semester at Duke Seminary, earned a PhD from Drew University, (in Religion and Literature) and did two years of post doctorate work at Princeton. He taught English at Union County College in Cranford, NJ from 1969 2007, specializing in Shakespeare and World Literature. And apart from the love of the craft, teaching allowed him the time to travel, and he has visited over 60 different countries and many of them on multiple occasions. He has a daughter and two grandsons, and extensive family still in the Carolinas. He and his partner Karen spend their time now at their home in NJ, and at their four season cabin in the southern Adirondacks.
