About the Author

Emily is a Midwestern Gal, but could be anywhere as you read this. She gypsy's the country, as well as south of the border. Adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material. She loves kids and working with kids, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life. Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story. Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of.

Great story but you have to wait for book 2 to finsh it. Leaves with a Big cliff hanger. I bought thr J Speaks also and was pissed it was 45 pages. It filled in very little but pissed me off the author would charge for 45 pages. Sick of authors riping people off like that.

I was gifted this book from the Author for an honest review.  this is book one in the L&J series.  I gave this book 5 stars.  This is Elle and J's story.  And what a story it is.  Elle is a tough girl, no nonsense kind of girl. She has been hardened by the streets and the people on it. She works at Applebee's, parties with her friends when she can, smokes as much weed as possible and loves to drink. She is not interested in a relationship with anyone, I don't think that she even believes in love. But when she goes to a bar with her friends after work one night she sees him from across the room and she feels an instant connection to him. She fights it of course and ignores it. When they finally do meet it's because he comes up beside her a few days later at a different bar after he recognizes her. He is a mysterious man, dark and inviting and she finally gives in. His name is J and he has been watching her since the moment she walked into the first bar and he felt the connection too. He knew at that moment that his life would never be the same. He knows how to talk to Elle, he knows the things to say to her that won't make her run like she usually would with other men. But when she does run, he also knows what to do so that she won't run very far. He doesn't push her buttons and he knows how to back off.  With his lifestyle and the things that he does will she stay when she finds out or will she run again? Can her walls come down? And if they do will they go back up when she discovers who J is? These two both have things that they need to work on in order to be together. But that doesn't stop them and it doesn't stop the mad chemistry that they have going on between them. He seems to calm her and center her, and she is just what he needs to keep him interested and wanting more. These two set the pages on fire!  J is as real as they come, he is a man and a beautiful one at that. He had me swooning all over the place, and these two together just had me smiling the whole time and chuckling to myself. It was just ridiculous when it came to them doing the things that they do. Where they go on their first date was just awesome. I loved the way this Author wrote her story. It was like reading about a real life relationship. I grew up in Chicago and the way that she describes her life and how hard it was and the words that she uses to describe this were perfect. Elle was a hard woman, the way she converses with her friends and with J is blunt and straight forward and she is just in one word REAL. Some might not like the way the story was told and the language in which it was told, but I cannot see Elle any other way then the way she was portrayed. Mouthy, feisty and loud. Someone who thinks that she has to be tough all the time in order not to be hurt. Someone who believes that life's happiness is for everyone else, but not her.  Thank you for your amazing story. I cannot wait to read the next one in the series. <3

¿An intriguing, gritty and real look at life in the 'grey zone'.¿ My rating: 4 of 5 ¿¿ Coming from a rough start, of which part was spent living on the streets, Elle has adopted a defensive attitude for every occasion. Only her two best friends know Elle deeper than the current mask she might be wearing, every one else is fitted into segregated and clearly labeled compartments, kept there for Elle's own feeling of security. And that includes the one night stands she only indulges in.... That is to say - until she bumps into a giant hottie named J, who seems intent on breaking down each and every one of her defenses. A rebellious youth lead J into the path of an MC, the same club that now, after years of growing and wisening up, was still demanding he pay his dues. It had been a long time J had wanted out, but loyalties and duty kept him bound. A life not really his own, he never considered a woman as a possible permanent fixture in his own. But then he meets Elle, and everything about her draws him, and against his better judgement he falls..... ***** Can I just say DAYUM!!  A very good and very different type of MC novel, with a focus more on the perifery than on the inside view.  This is NOT a standalone novel, it is the beginning of Elle and J's story.....and promising to be a bumpy one! Yes, the pot-smoking, peddling and tough street-slang is not my kinda 'thang' either..... HOWEVER, that is simply the scene in which this story is set, and whether I can identify with the characters personally or not, they can speak to me..... And I have to say, Elle and J speak to me LOUDLY......  Their story is a very compelling one, with so many layers covered up by all that tough exterior - layers we have to patiently wait to see come unfolded. And if you are patient with the outwardly immature and most times obnoxious behaviour of Elle in particular, you will start to recognize that there is so much more to her than your first snap to judgement may have suggested.  Perhaps age makes me a little more cognissant of rebellious behaviour when I see it, but there is something very genuine about both Elle and J that supercedes their reluctance to part with their respective secrets. Their hearts are honest, their loyalties divided, their pasts are conflicted, but their feelings are true - Still, their future is uncertain. As you will find out soon enough........ My first introduction to Emily Eck and although I had to persevere a few pages to get a hold of who I had before me in terms of characters, I was immediately taken with the style of writing, which strongly appealed to me. In fact, I had a hard time putting it down. The contrast between the 'public' and the 'real' Elle so stunning, the transition so tentatively brought about by the patience of a decent man at heart, J, and described in a touching way.  Oh.....and did I mention the sex scenes?? I didn't, did I..... well, they were there, in EXPLICIT detail ....and they were delicious and that's all you're gonna get out of me. Better get the book to get the down and dirty!!   But here's a word of warning, if ever the term 'CLIFF-HANGER' was appropriate??? It is now!!!! ¿An intriguing, gritty and real look at life in the 'grey zone'.¿ **Copy provided in return for an honest review.**

This is my first biker romance, and I wasn't disappointed. Elle is is not a damsel in distress, she's strong and has covered her heart in ice. She doesn't need a man and she doesn't want one... at least not in the relationship sense. J owes his life to an MC, his life is full of violence and love has no place in it, so he covered his heat in steel. So when Elle and J have a chance encounter at a club, they can't seem to stay away from each other no matter how much they try. Drawn to each other, they chip away at the cold hard exterior of the others heart. But his loyalty to the MC threatens to tear them apart, will their hearts once again become hardened and cold or will their feelings overcome all obstacles? I felt like it had a smooth plot line, it keeps you hooked. Some parts I would have liked a little more, almost felt rushed. Other parts felt like they dragged a little bit. But those weren't very often and for the most part it had a great flow to it. The story of these two will draw you in and leave you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. This book does end in a cliffhanger, so for those who like to have every book in a series before they read, add this to your TBR list now. (I loved the bit explaining the non word "cuz" just before the book started.)

I must admit I haven't read a lot of these street type books but this one had me hooked, the emotions and the sheer chemistry between not only Elle and J but everyone was incredible, the language and terms used I must admit had me guessing but after a while I got them and was into the swing of the story and then how could she do that to us, stop where she did OMG I didn't see that coming I was so involved I didn't notice how few pages there where and I was madly swiping to get to the next and it was the there.  How could you not fall for Elle, a toughie with a heart of gold, a student and a cook, and as she quotes to J "just like a ogre and an onion she has lots of layers" and we get to see more of them than anyone else as the story is all from her point of view. We go through every emotion and every change of layers with her and I love the fact because we can see how many emotions and feelings she has but if we just met her would we just judge her from appearances on one of her layers. The one quote that is seen from her walls is “Every person, all the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you chose to do with them is up to you. –Richard Bach.” Now Elle has to choose what to do about J. J “I turned my head and was looking at the chest of a man leaning against the bar. My eyes crept up, and up, and up until I reached his face. High cheek bones, olive skin, exotic eyes, lips that begged to be chewed on. Holy ****, it was the giant hottie from Checks. He had jeans slung low on his hips and the same black hoodie he wore at Checks sans the vest and hat. Good God, even his hair was sexy. Dark, shiny, thick, and long” wow get a fan because this just gets hotter! all that and sensitive and thoughtful too, the bracelet and the token got me by the jacket I was gone. There are so many memorable characters in this book that I don't have time to go into them all, suffice to say that if they are in the book they have a purpose and if they have a name you are going to remember them as they are all so well written that you can't forget. Have to love Chris the BFF and she really is one with all she has gone through and they have, both Elle and Chris know they are there for each other, definitely a case of Ho before Bro.  Aaron is bought alive as is Larry, and then the teenagers from the centre. They all come together to make this a book that should not be missed even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone and reading a book, a genre you wouldn't normally this makes it worthwhile.  I received a free copy for an honest review.

I got sucked into these characters. Elle was so guarded, yet J managed to peel away layers. And I loved how the teens were affecting her and she was unable to process it fully.  Like a subconscious change was occurring before our eyes. I am amped for the next book. I want it NOW!!!!
