If you love the stepbrother romances of Sabrina Paige, Caitlin Daire, and Krista Lakes, you’ll fall hard for Laura Marie Altom’s tale of forbidden love—a red-hot novel in her Shamed series featuring two tortured souls with an unbreakable bond.

As the chief legal counsel for dot-com billionaire Liam Stone, Garrett Marsden has grown accustomed to being universally loathed. In fact, he welcomes it. Because the bigger the fight, the easier it is to run from his desire for someone he can never have: his stepsister. But when Garrett flies back to Julep, Mississippi, for Savannah’s med school graduation, a steamy encounter makes all his wildest dreams come true—and leads to his undoing. Because that’s when he meets Savannah’s boyfriend. . . .

Five years later, Savannah Boudreaux couldn’t be happier as a small-town Southern doctor and single mom to a young son. There’s only one thing missing. Her stepbrother, Garrett, has just been released from prison, and although he may be a free man, he’s become a bitter shadow of the kind and caring man who once came to her rescue. Now Savannah will cross the line to save Garrett from himself: to prove that he can live his life, love whoever he wants . . . and be a wonderful father to their son.

May be read as a series or separately.

## BAD. REALLY BAD. I tried to like it. Really, I did. But to no avail. This book was God awful. I got to page 180 and couldn't take it anymore. I hate not finishing a book. But wow, this "heroine" was a complete (b) witch. She did nothing but insult and badger the hero. She treated him like dirt even though she knew that what he did was self-defense and an accident. And the fact that she was outraged that her fiance was cheating on her??? Pffft. She did the same thing. She cheated on him with the hero! And even worse, she made sure she had unprotected sex with her fiance incase she got pregnant from her tryst with the hero. Ewww. This chick needed to take a long walk off a short pier. Don't bother with this drivel. I wish I hadn't.

This is no lightweight stepbrother romance. Most of this book is so angst filled it was killing me. I felt so bad for these characters that I found myself speed reading just hoping they would catch a break. Their situation seemed almost impossible but I wanted them to really go for their happiness despite everything. I loved Garrett and admired his bravery but at the same time I understood Savannah's fears about them being together. Stepping Over the Line is a well-written, emotional romance that just about tore my heart out. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher in return for an honest review.

I would declare this an okay read for me. It had a good story-line and steamy sex, however it took me a while to warm up to the characters, especially Savannah. Her decision making process has little to be desired and was quite annoying. Plenty of drama and emotion and great chemistry between the characters.

Forbidden love, tortured souls with an unbreakable bond. Garrett fell for Savannah the first time he laid eyes on her when he was seventeen and she was fifteen. Unfortunately for Garrett she was to become his new step-sister putting him in the role of big brother making Savannah untouchable. Living together as brother and sister was torture for him. When he finally left their little southern town he was able to put her out of his head. He jetted off the L.A. to become a hot shot lawyer and live a life of excess so he could purge her from his thoughts. It didn’t work. Even just the occasional family get together left Garrett sullen and grumpy as he denied himself the only woman he ever truly wanted. Savannah wished that her sexy as sin step-brother would throw caution to the wind and make a move. She has loved him since the first time they met. One drunken night she takes matters into her own hands and they share a forbidden erotic experience of the best sex she ever had. It was wrong they both new it, it should never have happened. But things take an unexpected turn after their one night of passion and their lives will never be the same. My Review: I really loved Garrett immediately, He was broody, sexy and sweet at heart. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for Savannah. He proves that by going to jail after accidentally killing her fiance when they catch him cheating on her at their engagement party. Garrett was so easy to love. I felt for him and his heartbreak throughout the book. He sacrificed his life for Savannah. Savannah on the other hand I had a hard time connecting with her part of the story for a while. About 70% in I finally started to understand her and even like her. At times earlier in the book I felt she was a bit naive and made some really terrible uneducated decisions that I personally found a little unrealistic. Eventually she did win me over as she started to admit that Garrett was what she wanted and who cares what the town would think. I was happy I waited her out. This was a different kind of step-sibling romance. The chemistry was great, the sex scenes were dirty and hot. What really got me about the story was the emotions and the angst of the characters and how they dealt with the curve balls that life threw at them. The epilogue was fabulous I loved reading about the other couples from the previous series. I would definitely recommend this book—I look forward to more in the series.

Their parents may have married when they were teens but that doesn't mean that they're related. Garrett and Savannah fought the attraction as long as they could but on Savannah's graduation night things got a little bit out of hand. The results of those few moments of forbidden passion brought on life-changing events and things happen that cannot be taken back. This was an OK story for me to read I liked it it was entertaining but I didn't really feel A connection with the characters that gives it a wow moment. I did enjoy the complexity of the mystery that was going on and at one part wanted to rip a certain jerk into pieces so that being said you know it kept my attention.

A gritty love story between a stepbrother and stepsister involving horrible repercussions. Yep this pretty much says it all but it doesn't say enough. A heartbreaking story that walks the reader through one night's experience that changed the life of two families and ruined Garret's life. It shows the heartbreak in both families and what strict beliefs do to tear families apart. It is about death, anger, pain, birth, love, being honorable and forgiveness. It is very emotional and a fast paced read involving strongly written characters that show the reader what it's like to show authenticness in relationships. This book is a dramatic example of what happens when society chooses your existence based on their beliefs and I for one love the ending as it clarifies that we have a choice to be another way. a copy was gifted via Netgalley

I usually don't read stepbrother stories but I thought I would give this one a try since it is by Ms. Altom. I'm glad I did. I loved it! It's well written and has a little of everything. There's mystery, humor and suspense. The characters are likable, well developed and easy to connect with. I can't wait to read more in this series. This is the first step-brother novel I have read and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The book had everything I want from romance novels: passion, smoking hot characters, undying love and of course conflict. Garrett and Savannah have both been lusting after each other since the first day they met. Only problem was the taboo of being “brother & sister”. On the night of Savannah’s graduation party from college these two finally give into their desires but tragedy soon follows. When an unfortunate accident takes Garrett away, Savannah distances herself from him for her and her child’s safety. However, when these two meet back up the fireworks explode. There is so much tension between these two and although Savannah is still madly in love with Garrett she can’t forgive him and wants him to stay away from her and her son. Over time Garrett breaks down Savannah’s walls and as she slowly lets him back in you can see that their undying love for each other is still as strong as ever. I received an eARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

***ARC provided by the publisher and NetGalley*** Wow. Still recovering. This one has it all. A hero you like, a heroine you like, people who are real and have flaws, a situation that isn’t ever going to be totally tidy, sort of like life, and characters who deserve happiness. Forbidden romances can be fun. The forbidden aspect heightens the wondering if they will be able to figure out a way to get the HEA and, more importantly, if there is a way that it can be resolved that works for the story and the characters. You get to know the characters over time through the first few chapters, so when you get to the meat of the story, you already know how they feel about one another, and why they are denying it. But, you still find yourself on their side. Garrett was in such a position, and he made the choices he made to protect Savannah, after taking what he felt was so much from her. Savannah had to deal with loving a man she shouldn’t and deal with the fact that the reason she shouldn’t love him went a lot deeper than just (really, enough happens that this is a “just”) being her stepbrother. The writing, the dialog and the characters are all strong and you won’t want to put this one down. I know I read it in about a day because I just had to know what happened and how it worked out. Garrett and Savannah deserved happiness. This one is making both my 5-star and my “re-read” list.

I really enjoyed this one. Some of these "stepbrother" stories just don't work for me but after knowing Garrett from the Shamed series by this author I just had to read this! Am I ever glad I did. From the time they first met Garrett and Savannah have fought an incredible attraction. They manage very well until a very steamy encounter at the party for her medical school graduation. They both know that was a mistake and Garrett returns to his life in California. He's working hard to put her out of his mind. That is until he is called back home to NC to attend Savannah's sudden and unexpected wedding. That's when his life will take a devastating turn and things will never be the same. I thought this was a great story and I think you will too. I highly recommend it.

If you've read the Shamed Series by Ms. Altom, this is the book that will finally give you a glimpse at the story behind Liam's always grumpy lawyer, Garrett. But, you do not need to read this series prior to reading this. The author gives you plenty of background info on Garrett. And besides, his story is different from Liam's. The forbidden relationship of the step-siblings makes for one hot and fantastic story! Wow! Garrett has had a thing for his step-sister since the day he met her. Being the relationship is taboo, he did his best to keep his distance. But, he just can't help look and wonder "What if?". Savannah has thought the world of her older step-brother. Someone she looked up to and thought was sexy as hell at the same time. But he's her step-brother. It would be wrong on so many levels. One night. She wanted one night to be wild, get it out of her system and forget about it. To see if it's as good as she always hoped. But that one night would give her memories for a lifetime. This was a great book! Sometimes a spin off series will involve characters from the main series, and this one does, just not a lot. A couple scenes at most. It is it's own story with few appearances from characters in the main series. Which is great because we want to know about Garrett and not use this as a drawn out Epilogue for the main series. Laura Marie Altom has quickly become one of my favorites. She is an exceptional writer and I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for her future books. *ARC received from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
