Fred Astaire's writing is smooth, captivating and highly enjoyable. He seemed very respectful of other people he worked with, and relates the highs and lows of his career with wit and class. I didn't find anything that would offend. A must for any fan of this wonderul man!

Fred's book is a breezy, to the point, absorbing read. You won't read much about the dances, or the choreography, he created with Hermes Pan, Hal Born, the composers, Ginger, and/or his other dance partners....but you will get a feeling for this graceful family man....for his unelaborated frankness. When he says that dancing is about "sweat" and hard work, he's saying a lot. When he says of Ginger: "She had guts.", he gives you a snapshot of his greatest dance partner. Don't miss Rogers's preface, where she takes exception to one of Fred's comments. That alone gives a little hint into the mystery of the magic chemistry between them...and their individuality. Fred Astaire was an unique talent...a highly gifted musician, who became the greatest dancer of the 20th Century...according to Balanchine. His book is a great read.

Fred Astaire writing is unsurprisingly comforting, easy and fun to read. His personality is reflected in the way he writes. He offers interesting stories about his life that reveals how and why he become who he is. He is very honest about what he thinks about his career and how people view him. This book only increased my admiration for him even further.
