While most of us think of rest as something we do, Jenny shares how rest is a place from which we live and work. Sharing her own personal story of struggling with life's pressures and spiritual exhaustion, she introduces you to the source of peace and rest: Jesus. She shows you the steps to take to access rest anytime, anyplace, under any conditions. And she reveals how operating from a place of stillness powers your identity, creativity, relationships, and so much more.

If you've been stressed and anxious, operating on autopilot as life whizzes by, it's time you discovered the resting place God designed for you.

Who is this book for? Want to truly rest in God's peace, even in the middle of days gone wild? When chaos abounds, the frantic search for shoes and keys is on, and a quiet moment is an elusive dream? Ever had your peace disrupted because you were sideswiped by unexpected words or actions? Are you weary of worry and fear swamping you? Do you wonder what the key to truly resting in the peace of Jesus is? This book may be for you! In this book about Rest and Stillness, Jenny L. Donnelly does a good job of sharing her personal struggles and experiences in seeking and learning about resting in God. She comes alongside to encourage and point the reader along the path to peace and rest during the chaos of everyday. Book Layout The first part of the book takes a deep dive into the search for rest. It takes a look at tangled chaos, sadness, and loneliness among other struggles and noise. The second part of the book then focuses on seven ways to rest. I really liked the layout of this part and the seven ways. They are: Lean.........Let Go........Cultivate Intimacy......Put on Praise......Live in the Present in God's Presence and Power......Enter the Garden.....Wrestle into REST........ In the chapter about Leaning, Jenny presses into fear and our personal fears. I especially liked this sentence. "Fear doesn't make any sense....until it's your own." Too true. It's easy to wave away someone else's fears when it's something we don't personally fear. Jenny reminds us "We take our first step toward REST when we turn from our fear and lean on the Father." The final part and chapter take a look at positioning ourselves in the posture of REST. Some of the book chapters contain questions to prompt contemplation and deeper insight. There are also journaling spaces to write out your thoughts. I received a copy of this book to review and all thoughts are my own.

One of the best books I've ever read. This book is full of truths that dramatically impacted my life. I spent most of my life chasing moments of rest rather than living from a place of rest. It's possible! I want everyone I know and love to read this book and gain this revelation!

The revelation the author shares in this book changed my life. The author shares real Life situations that spoke directly to my feelings and circumstances. The 7 ways to find rest are so simple and WORK. Rather than seeking a getaway, I am learning to walk in rest everyday, every moment. I’ve bought copies for all my friends now too. The way she describes her relationship with God i brings forth a hunger for more of Him.

A powerful and actionable guide to finding rest in God. Author Jenny L. Donnelly skillfully walks readers through a comprehensive journey through the pains, frustrations, and chaos of daily life and the transformative power and grace that is ours if we invite God into our hearts. As she explains, “The pocket is where you are enveloped in the love of God so completely that nothing is blocking his voice and all that he has for you.” A central message is one that Christians have heard many times. Let go and let God. But the simple concept can be difficult to grasp and implement. Still - 7 Ways to Find Calm in the Chaos provides a distinct roadmap, including all the road signs, traffic lights, and detours. Each of the seven actionable steps is explained with excellent clarity and applicable Bible verses. Ms. Donnelly weaves many examples from her life, including bruises from her childhood. Her life now is filled with every reason to be a stressed mess - as a successful businesswoman, nonprofit founder, and a married mother of five. Yet, she describes that finding REST is a place, not an action. It doesn’t mean escaping your chaotic life. It means finding God’s refuge within it. Still is a timely book for today’s chaotic lifestyle. The guidance is applicable for those living within the most chaotic circumstances to those chilling in retirement. It’s for anyone looking for a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God. The resources in the Appendix provide even more tools to support the journey. How this book affected me: With all the great books in the Christian market, they can start blurring together with their common themes. I admit that I assumed Still would be 'just another one', but it wasn’t. What stood out for me was the distinct roadmap – the clear explanation and directions, the action steps, the homework assignments, and the bible verses. All the elements worked together to create a tool that truly has life-changing potential if the reader is open-minded and willing to put in time and effort. As a book reviewer, I didn’t have the luxury of time to savor the book as it’s intended to be, but I will be re-reading to fully absorb and apply the message to my life. I've made strides in letting go, but I'm still a work in progress. Who would enjoy this book: Ideal readers for Still have a hard time finding God or fitting Him into their chaotic lives. I personally think the message is valuable and applicable for anyone who’s looking for peace or trying to strengthen their relationship with God. Thank to Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group, for sending this book for me to review. I was looking forward to this read due to wanting some REST in my life. The premise of the book was the author was going to share how "to experience true, life-giving REST in the middle of chaos." I thought it sounded perfect and much needed. The author's answer, Jesus. There is nothing wrong with this answer, and some of the book spoke to me and sounded reasonable, but I'm just in a different part of my faith journey. I just felt like I was judging myself and my own relationship or lack of relationship with God while reading this book- not something I enjoy when trying to enjoy my reading experience. Jenny shares the 7 ways to "find full, surrendered REST" are: 1. Lean into God 2. Letting go and trusting God with your life. 3. Cultivating Intimacy with God 4. Putting on the Garments of Praise 5. Lying in the present in God's presence and power. 6. Entering the Garden, abiding with the Gardener 7. Wrestle into REST (deal with painful parts, irritations and frustrations in order to settle into REST). I did find some favorite quotes from the book: pg 60 "When we do 'religious' things but don't sense God's presence, we are alive and dead at the same time." pg 73 "The key to total healing is found in total forgiveness." pg 76 "I've heard it said that all fear can be narrowed down to one or more of the following 3 fears: - I'm all alone -I have no one to help me. -I don't have what it takes." pg 139 " To find REST, we must practice being right here in whatever conditions that we find ourselves." pg 142 "Living in worry will steal your REST."
