Still Not Over You (Man from Yesterday, #5) by Barbara Lohr

The marriage might be over, but in this heartwarming romance Phoebe and Ryder aren’t finished. Not by a long shot. When they split up, Ryder got the Harley but they both own the cottage where Phoebe still lives. She wants it fixed up and demands his financial help. Her ruggedly handsome ex fumes...and then he folds. Mighty suspicious.

Ryder’s never gotten over Phoebe. Losing her was the biggest mistake of his life. Can repairing a house heal a broken marriage? Pride makes Phoebe rip up Ryder’s check. She’ll do the work herself and paint the house pink. She’s going to girly up the place and Ryder can forget about selling it. But Phoebe ends up in the ER with a broken leg. Her ex is only too happy to come to her rescue. Will she be stuck with him all summer?

Goaded on by his father Stanley, a Vietnam Vet, Ryder takes on the mission of winning Phoebe back. Stanley feels it’s time for some strategically planned. Armed with a plan, Ryder loads his tool box onto his truck and sets out to win back the only woman he’s ever loved.

Meanwhile, Phoebe’s book group helps with her own game plan. She needs their support. Muscles rippling in the sun, Ryder generates heat that has nothing to do with July. And he’s being so darn sweet, bringing pasties from the Whistle Stop Cafe and broasted chicken from Roadhouse. He knows her weak points too well. And Ryder’s one of them.

Phoebe knows what Ryder was, but does she know him today? As he lays down a new roof and yes, paints the cottage a girly pink, he worries that she can’t see he’s changed. That he’s not the careless boy who broke her heart.

Eager to help with the wooing, Stanley secretly drops off dinners, which Ryder passes off as his own efforts. Goaded on by her friends, Phoebe allows Ryder to take the guest room so she can flaunt what he left behind. She’s getting vibes that he’s not over her and brings on the skimpy tops and her denim mini-skirt, the only clothes that fit over her cast.

The plan backfires. Phoebe and Ryder reach a make or break point. Can she risk loving him again? Maybe Stanley has the answer. All these years he’s kept a secret that might devastate Ryder but provide his son a future with the woman he loves.

I really enjoy a small town romance and Ryder and Phoebe's story is a great beach read, especially in December when I can immerse my toes in the sand while the snow piles up outside my window. The sexual awareness between this estranged couple simmers throughout this second chance romance proving once and for all that absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read!

I’ve read the Man From Yesterday series and have always found Phoebe an enigma – makes sense as she was “another character” in each of the stories. It wasn’t until I read SNOY that I realized just how young, age-wise, she was. Don’t get me wrong, though. She is wise beyond her years, in most ways, even if she does seek ‘advice’ from her flamingo lawn ornament! Okay, that always makes me laugh. (I really liked Fernando. Her conversations with him are hilarious.) At its heart, Phoebe and her ex, Ryder, need to open up and grow up in this story. I think both of them need to learn how to deal with deep feelings that come with being in a relationship before they can move on. And their story about moving on? Hilarious! When Phoebe…let’s call it ‘challenges’…Ryder about painting her/their house pink, this guy’s-guy rises to that challenge and does it – with minimal complaining. Sort of. Ryder uses the opportunity of helping Phoebe (no spoilers to tell you why) to win her back. In the process, they both learn that life isn’t always black or white. Sometimes it is pink and turquoise! Funny story about how to ‘fix’ a broken marriage. Ryder’s dad adds some great craziness, the ocean setting makes you want to dip your toes in the water, and I think Fernando is the only sane one.

Still Not Over You (Man from Yesterday Book 5) by Barbara Lohr This is Phoebe and Ryder’s story. This was a great story of two people rediscovering their love and trust in each other. Once I started the book I couldn’t put it down. I could feel the characters’ emotions as they struggled through this journey. The love and passion was still there but they had to learn to trust again. At times I laughed and cried. I really enjoyed this book. A perfect book to escape from real life struggles. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
