Believable tale of possible paranormal activity doesn't get silly and follows an interesting story line.

Stillwell is the story of how a mansion may be the key to finding happiness once again after a tragedy. Paul Russo's wife just died and is left to pick up the pieces with his three kids while discovering that his wife's soul is being held hostage by a demon. It all comes down to a haunted mansion with a past that will leave Paul speechless on how everything is intertwined with his life and what had happened in the past. It comes down to one night when everything collides together in a ending that was made for a happy ending after a loss! This was a good book that will leave you up way past your bedtime just to see what happens next in this love story with a twist. I loved how Michael had this history filled love story with a demon included that makes you wonder why isn't Michael in all the stores nationwide since he knows how to write as good as Stephen King or maybe even better than that! It would be cool to see this book made into a movie just to see it play out on a big screen! Thank You to Michael Phillip Cash for writing yet another book that I love dearly! I received this book from the Author in exchange for a honest review!

Stillwell, by Michael Phillip Cash, is quite the tale of a haunted house. As the book opens, Paul and his three children have lost their young wife and mother to cancer. The grief has Paul down a rabbit hole of despair. But the funeral is over now and life must go on. But how can it when one's forever love has gone? The author gives a realistic picture as to what the journey of grief might look like, although there is that twist with hallucinations, nightmares, and ghostly appearances. Is this for real? Or is it just grief messing with Paul's head? Can he succeed at selling a house that might be haunted with ghosts from the past? Or is it just the neighbor kids playing tricks? The story moves quickly and the characters are likable and authentic. Great suspense and mystery, a little bit of history and paranormal aplenty make Stillwell a worthwhile read.

I’m always in for a haunting tale. This was really good. You have a man who has lost his wife to illness. He’s coping with grief and struggling to take care of his children. Finally, he goes back to work, taking a listing for a mansion that’s purported to be haunted. He quickly discovers it is. And also finds out an evil entity is holding his wife’s spirit captive. There’s also something strange happening with one of his children. The young one is being haunted in his dreams and awakens many nights terrified by horrific nightmares. It’s all he can do to keep it together. So many demons to battle, real and otherwise, past and present. Michael’s characters are always genuine. They could easily be someone you know. In Stillwell, I feel he dug real deep for these characters. You can’t help but empathize with some of them. Loath others. And hope you never meet some in a dark alley. The author gives you a solid mystery, some eerie interludes, and enough creepy atmosphere to make your hairs stand on end and keep you looking over your shoulder at every tiny noise. If you’re a fan of hauntings, this is one for you.

Paul Russo’s wife has just died after trying all kinds of drugs to fight her brain tumor. And although it has only been one week since her passing, Paul is not handling it very well. Because of this and the debt, he returns to work. Paul is asked to help sell an estate, Stillwell manor that he remembers from his childhood. Then Stella, the youngest of his children says that she sees the ghost of her mother, Paul just thinks that the child is coping. When he first stars seeing Allison, he figures it is just working through the grief. But Allison is in the hands of a demon. It seems that the original owner of Stillwell manor is in the same position and it is up to Paul to save both of them. This is a great story. The main part is Paul’s love for Allison. Her death has hit him particularly hard but he is trying to keep everything together, especially for the kids. And the paranormal events are just like the ones people generally report which made this really creepy for me. I love how Michael Phillip Cash can write a love story that gives you the creeps. I love all of Michael Phillip Cash’s books and strongly recommend everyone check them out. You will not be disappointed. I received Stillwell a long time ago for free in exchange for an honest review.

An amazing, absorbing story! I couldn’t put it down from page one to the end – read it in less then 4 and a half hours! I totally enjoyed the whole story – so wonderful finding love that lasts, with a set of loving kids. The plot, characters were just fantastic and the writing just caught you and held you to the last sentence! and, it almost makes you believe in Ghosts!

When I read the product description for Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island, I wasn’t sure if this would turn out to be a ghost story or a love story. Since I enjoy both, I decided to give it a try. The author wrote a beautifully haunting tale of love, loss, grief and acceptance. I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased the audio-book version which is available on I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

I love a good ghost story and this is definitely one. It pulled on my heart strings for the family and had me looking over my shoulder when I heard noises at night. As things resolved, I did not quite expect the answers. This story follows the living and the dead, and I really enjoyed this book.

Real Estate agent Paul Russo’s life is crashing around him. His wife passed after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Paul is torn, he wants to be by his wife’s side in her journey, but he would leave his three children behind. With not having worked in months, the Russo’s finances are starting to hit rock bottom. Paul must get back in the game and sell a few houses. An old high school friend phones with a lead that could refill Paul’s piggybank. The only issue, it’s the Stillwell Manor. The Stillwell Manor has long been rumored to be haunted. Paul is hesitant, but his sidekick Molly pushes him to take the listing. True to the billing, Stillwell is alive with a ghost. Paul has ghostly encounters at the Manor and at home. He has contact with his wife, who is chased by a hairy ape type beast. Paul is tormented to save his wife. Is Paul going insane or is he really in contact with his wife. Molly talks Paul into having a psychic reading and is amazed of the details revealed. The only thing that baffled Paul was the psychic kept referring to a Monkey Wrench. What did the Monkey Wrench have to do with the story? Did Paul sell the Stillwell Manor? You will have to read this heartwarming novel to find out. Michael created a novel that will inspire and shows the true meaning of love. The novel was beautifully written with a great cast of characters. No character took away from this masterpiece, each had their purpose and Michael weaved a story that will keep in my mind for a long time. Truly a novel worth reading.

What would you do if you lost the love of your life?  Would you hide away in your room and never come out again or would you attack life again full throttle? When Paul's wife dies he knows he has to keep on living for the sake of his children. When he is offered the chance to sell an old haunted mansion called Stillwell Manor he knows this is a big opportunity for him.  The commission will help his family greatly.  While Paul is trying to move on with his life he is tormented by a demon who is holding his beloved wife's spirit hostage. Can he find the clues to set his wife's soul free? "Stillwell" written by Michael Phillip Cash was not the type of book I was expecting.  I was expecting a horror story, but instead I received a paranormal mystery and a story about love that transcends even death. It didn't disappoint. Mr. Cash keeps you on the edge of your seat with paranormal events scattered throughout the story. I found the pace of the story at the beginning very slow,  then suddenly a demons voice is heard in a radio and I knew right then and there that I had to finish the story. Just as Paul was drawn to Stillwell Manor, I found myself wanting to discover it's secrets too.  As the book progressed I found myself reading a little faster in an attempt to uncover the Manors secrets faster. The author has created a haunting story that expresses the grief that happens when a soul-mate is lost.  **Disclosure: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

There are many types of ghost stories. Not all of them have to be horrifying.  This is probably my favorite type. I love a story that is wrapped around a romance.  In this case we have Paul, who is dealing with the recent death of his wife from brain cancer.  He is trying hard to get his life back together for the sake of his children; twins Jesse and Veronica and the youngest, Stella Luna.  Paul, who has always made a living selling houses, has been asked by friends of his to sell their place, Stillwell Manor.  Paul has all the confidence in the world he can sell this place, even though it is known to be haunted.  Paul finds himself seeing things, including his wife.  Is it his imagination or is there something, or someone that needs his help?  Things are tied up neatly as Paul learns more of the history of the house and finds connections.  The question is, will he make those connections before it is too late for him and his children?  I love it. I especially love Hannah’s story.  I think this historical aspect made the difference for me.  This is definitely one of my favorites among the books I have read by this author.  I look forward to reading more by him. I received a copy to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

I received this book to give an honest review. Let me say I do love the cover to this book! Seems like it could be a mysterious story by the way the cover looks. This is a ghost story but not one that will have you get the willies unless you get scared easily. We start off with Paul losing his wife in a horrible way that we never want to see our spouse go. But to add to the mix she left behind her children, and of course Paul has to learn how to function without Allison there to help him out. This is a story that love will last for all eternity. Paul sells homes for a living and one of his clients wants him to sell the family home. There was recently a murder in the home so of course that is suppose to make it more harder to sell. But Paul knows he can sell it, when he goes to investigate he starts seeing strange images and ghosts. Scary I know right. Stillwell Manor has a lot of background to it so it is not just a old house it has seen a lot.  With Stillwell Manor the background to the house also comes together to the present. Paul learns a lot about what went on years and years before to give it the presences of a ghost. While he learning about that he is also trying to figure out if he is losing his mind or is his wife really calling out for his help.  This is a fast-paced story, with no action. More like a light ghost story but the the author did a good job with the character of Paul and his descriptions of things.

Michael Cash, the Author, pens "Stillwell, A Haunting on Long Island", a story about a man dealing with the death of his wife along with his grieving children.  Very well written with multiple layers of emotions, ghosts/spirits, mysteries and pasts long buried. Not your normal "horror" story with screaming and lights flickering, but still dark enough to keep you turning the pages. I highly recommend this book to all mystery and horror fans...well actually anyone looking for a small bump in the night. This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.

Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island is by far my favorite book by author Michael Phillip Cash so far. The story is less straightforward than “The Flip” and “The Hanging Tree”, two other scary stories by aforementioned author. Stillwell is about more than a ghost story. It’s about memories, about letting go, about suffering and pain, and about a love that transcendents time and death. The writing is a touch better than in the previous books I read by said author, and the characters are more developed. Especially main character Paul had a lot of different layers, and by the end, I felt like I really got to know him. Stillwell is a haunted well near a gothic mansion. I liked how, for once, it was the well that was haunted, not the mansion itself. I enjoyed how the book left it in the middle whether Paul was imagining things, due to mental anguish over losing his wife, or if something paranormal was really happening. The reader was left in the dark about this for the largest part of the novel. What could be better, was the horror. There is nothing truly scary about the mansion, and all the scares go by too fast. There’s little suspense or build up, and while the mansion seems atmospheric, that atmosphere isn’t portrayed in the writing. The pacing is fast, sometimes too fast to make the book scary. I enjoyed the story though, and it was a pleasant read. For a true horror fan, it might focus slightly too much on the love story instead of the horror story, but I didn’t mind. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an hoenst review.

I loved this book! I have to admit I was predisposed to love it because of it's setting because I grew up on Long Island. I loved the way the author wove the historical connection that one can feel in older homes, and how the love of finding out the historical backgrounds of people and places can add depth of understanding. The story itself was manifold, and I loved getting caught up in the entire plot and characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting a great tale.

This ghost story of a tormented man whose recently deceased wife’s spirit is being held hostage is a great, fast-paced read. Stillwell is both a ghost story and a love story. There are also elements of mystery as Paul uncovers the sordid past of Stillwell Manor and the secrets that the well on the property holds. Parts of the story are sadly amusing, like when Paul is trying to figure out how to care for his children and run the household without his wife there. It’s tragic because his wife will never be back, but as the schedule coordinator and accountant for my family of six, I know my husband too would be lost if I weren’t around (even if just temporarily). There are also parts that are so sweet they actually made me tear up – Paul Russo was very much in love with his wife, and some of the descriptions of the love they shared for one another before her untimely passing are heartbreaking in retrospect. Paul does eventually confront the demon that’s holding his wife’s soul hostage, in an unexpected twist to the story. I’ll leave it to you to read the story and discover the outcome of that battle. I was also pretty happy to see that Stillwell’s cover art is taken word-for-word from the actual story, right down to the weeping willow. I definitely recommend this book to fans of ghost stories, especially if you like a little mystery and romance mixed in.

Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island is a new mystery- horror novel by Michael Phillip Cash. It is rare to find an intelligently written work of fiction these days. Although the haunting genre is popular and commonly depicted in horror and suspense novels, Cash's talent using the written word is what sets this book above and beyond the competition. One can say the market is saturated with books on hauntings and the paranormal- the idea of a haunted mansion and an ominous evil presence is nothing new- except for the fact that Cash delivers the story with an element of realism and authenticity. This conscientious writer pays attention to the fine details of writing, the sights, sounds and even odors of horror. There is no detail that gets past the eagle eye of this writer- where the written word becomes a form of art. There are literally no dry areas in this book- something is always happening. It has become commonplace for fiction writers to include dry filler to simply fill up pages and empty space. Michael Cash's novel is full of poignant description, drama or action from the first page to the last. He even has the talent to transform the seemingly ordinary after dinner or office work place scenes into scenes of complex psychoanalysis. The end result- a well written novel with a touch of believability, in the tradition of the classic horror writers. The chapters themselves are ordered by the days of the week over the span of seven days for a more dramatic effect in the tradition of the great haunting classics. This hybrid genre combines the best of horror with mystery. Cash's novel will draw in a variety of readers as it integrates elements of suspense, horror, psychology and even history. There are enough authentic contemporary as well as historical details to make the geographic setting of the story believable for the reader. The three dimensional characters are very well developed. In fact the reader can get into the deep recess Paul, the main character's mind, as he succumbs to the living nightmare, doubting his own sanity. The reader can share in empathy with the grief of Paul after the loss of his wife. He and his children seem so vulnerable and lost, physically as well as spiritually. Their lack of religious belief is obvious as the Paul and his children grasp for answers and assurance in the midst of the supernatural nightmare they face in the aftermath of Allison's death. Overall the author does a thorough job as he delves into the depths of human emotions- resulting in a plausible scenario of how an average, otherwise sane individual would face such nightmarish circumstances and events. The reader gets the real sense of the insurmountable responsibilities shouldered by Paul in regards to his work, family and grief - on top of the nightmare he finds himself caught up in. He finds he must even take on the role of a detective to end the nightmare, to boot! As a blogger I received this book for the purpose of writing a review. I suggest this for anyone who wants to read a richly written paranormal mystery.

Great book about a widower coping with his grief. Is he seeing ghosts or is he losing his mind. Steeped with realism, Paul Russo must keep his family together, all while fighting a demon at night. He believes the soul of his wife is being held captive. Mix in  his three children, a helpful sister and a co worker trying to convince him to see a psychic, and you have a taut thriller that will keep you guessing in this exciting read.

When is a haunted house story NOT just your average haunted house story? Not that there's anything wrong with haunted house stories, but Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island by talented author Michael Phillip Cash is so much MORE than the title implies. It is the story of a man struggling with the loss of the love of his life after a long and painful illness. Overwhelmed with his own grief, he must also deal with the devastation his children are feeling. It wasn't supposed to be like this, and he is ill-equipped to handle all of the mundane chores of the living, go back to work as a realtor and, oh yes, there are the dreams, and the Stillwell House, the recent scene of a murder/suicide long thought to be haunted by the ghost of a beautiful young woman so much like his wife. Paul Russo is tormented mentally and emotionally by a demon who is holding his wife's spirit captive. Are these dreams or reality? At the same time, the ghost that haunts Stillwell calls to him in some way. What is the connection between these two women? How can he set his wife's spirit free from her torment? How can he put his family back together again? How can he put himself back together again? Michael Phillip Cash has done an excellent job of creating layers of emotional turmoil, while still building the thrill of ghosts, buried pasts and undiscovered mysteries. He had the ability to pull me completely into every facet of his tale. This wasn't a horror tome, yes, it was dark, but not foreboding, I heard no organ music, didn't need the extra props, it was an incredibly well-done piece from the first page until its last. The ending was like the shiny bow topping off a well-wrapped gift! I highly recommend adding this to your reading list! I need to thank Michael Phillip Cash for allowing me to read and review Stillwell: A Haunting on Long Island.

I love ghost stories although I am very serious not a believer in ghosts. Maybe demons. Ha! But this story was awesome and had me a bit spooked. I hope to read more by this author. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

You know from the very beginning that this story is going to rip your heart out right out of your chest but you continue to read it anyway because you have to know what happens. It is a touching, haunting, brave love story that is well worth the read. I recommend it to everyone. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It's refreshing to see a husband's grief for his lost wife instead of the stereotypical macho Man who doesn't feel pain. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and would love a prequel about Hannah and John. I absolutely loved the turn of events about what the demon really was and it broke my heart. This was an amazing read.
Stardust_Fiddle More than 1 year ago
This is a relatively short, easy read. Given that the story revolves around a recently widowed man--Paul Russo--and his family, dealing with grief is one of the main themes, as is facing one's demons. In that manner, the tale is somewhat allegorical, although the vast majority of the plot plays out with Paul denying any supernatural involvement as he tries to move on with his life and his job as a realtor by selling a local mansion. "Stillwell", however, relied too much on horror tropes--lost loved ones who haven't moved on, haunted houses, good vs. evil--so the story was rather run-of-the-mill and not very memorable.
