"Stoking the Poetry Flame" shows how to develop and encourage the love of poetry, including strategies for teaching it, and suggestions for making poetry a meaningful part of a student's life. It is a practical, easy-to-follow, field-tested guide for teachers to use at all grade levels and for all abilities, and gives teachers and home-schooling parents techniques for teaching poetry to their students.

Chapters offer purposes, detailed biographical information, specific poetic structures, and classroom student tasks. Each lesson is illustrated with examples of original student poems. There is a Resource List, Bibliography, and Glossary of Literary Terms. A final student activity includes directions for making an anthology of their poems.

"Stoking the Poetry Flame" is the second book in a three-volume series. Other books in the series are: "Igniting the Poetry Flame" and "Keeping the Flame Alive." The series seeks to ignite and invigorate the creative poetic spark in students.

Each book in the series can be used by itself as a stand-alone text or with the other books in the series. They can be adapted for use in elementary, middle, or high school language arts classes by English and other teachers at all grade levels, and for students of varying abilities. Parents will also find the books valuable for their home-schooled children.

About the Author

Andrea Louise Ambler has taught English in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and through the Department of Defense in Germany. She served as University Mentor at Azusa Pacific University. Andrea was awarded "Teacher of the Year," "Outstanding Teacher," and the "Johns Hopkins University Teacher Recognition Award." Her previous books include "Igniting the Poetry Flame: A Teaching Resource Book," "LITERATURE: the Book, the Place and the Pen," "Keepers of the Flame: A Poetry and Prose Resource Book for Teachers" and "Distant Shore," part of a K-8 literature series (McGraw-Hill Publishing). She has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Southern California, and is listed in Who's Who in American Education.

Christine J. Curry is an independent professional artist and muralist who has painted numerous murals in Southern California. She graduated from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, and has had numerous exhibitions of her work throughout the Los Angeles area. Christine lives in Redlands, California and is the illustrator of several books by Andrea Louise Ambler.
