Overview

Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner, Greg Hargreaves, Marcia Sewall

John Reynolds Gardiner's classic action-packed adventure story about a thrilling dogsled race has captivated readers for more than thirty years.

Based on a Rocky Mountain legend, Stone Fox tells the story of Little Willy, who lives with his grandfather in Wyoming. When Grandfather falls ill, he is no longer able to work the farm, which is in danger of foreclosure. Little Willy is determined to win the National Dogsled Race—the prize money would save the farm and his grandfather. But he isn't the only one who desperately wants to win. Willy and his brave dog Searchlight must face off against experienced racers, including a Native American man named Stone Fox, who has never lost a race.

Exciting and heartwarming, this novel has sold millions of copies and was named a New York Times Outstanding Children's Book.

Stone Fox is about a ten year old boy Willy. Willy needs to win the big race so he can give the money to his grandfather to save the farm. The main point is he trying to help his grandfather because he's really sick so he uses all of his college savings money to enter the race. If he wins he gets the money to save the farm. I thought that he would do anything to help his grandpa. I felt nervous when he was going to risk all of his college savings. The biggest problem for Willy is he has to go against Stone Fox. Stone Fox is a professional dog sledder. Stone Fox has won all the races he had entered his whole life. You should read it because it can be a true story to some people who have to deal with tough times.

I will read this book over and over again forever and ever until I die. It's one of those books that makes you cry with tears of joy at the end. Its so sad but so amazing at the same time. I feel so bad for searchlight at the end, she gave it her all which makes this book a truly amazing story. And how willie and searchlight walked accrosed the finish line at the end...it brings tears of happiness and sadness for the loss of searchlight. This is a book I canread over and over that will always cheer me up (and its always good to cry over an amazing book once in a while, it cleans your system)
