Overview

Enter a world of gargoyle protectors, rising demons and one girl with an explosive secret.

Eighteen-year-old Trinity Marrow may be going blind, but she can see and communicate with ghosts and spirits. Her unique gift is part of a secret so dangerous that she’s been in hiding for years in an isolated compound fiercely guarded by Wardens—gargoyle shape-shifters who protect humankind from demons. If the demons discover the truth about Trinity, they’ll devour her, flesh and bone, to enhance their own powers.

When Wardens from another clan arrive with disturbing reports that something out there is killing both demons and Wardens, Trinity’s safe world implodes. Not the least because one of the outsiders is the most annoying and fascinating person she’s ever met. Zayne has secrets of his own that will upend her world yet again—but working together becomes imperative once demons breach the compound and Trinity’s secret comes to light. To save her family and maybe the world, she’ll have to put her trust in Zayne. But all bets are off as a supernatural war is unleashed…

Classic Jennifer Armentrout! I loved that she included some of the old characters from this world...Can't wait to read the next in the series!

I truly enjoyed this book and will be buying the physical copy soon to add to the shelf which I rarely do. I loved this book and there is nothing better to do with a good book than to have it in your hands and worn down over time as you read it again and again. I can't wait for the next book and thank you for being so brave to incorporate your own experiences and fears into the book. It took it to an entirely different level.

I completely loved this whole series and can’t wait for the next book.

3.5 Stars... Thank you Harlequin TEEN and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this free e-arc for an honest review. I’ve read a few books by Jennifer L. Armentrout and really enjoy them but I did not read the The Dark Elements series. Maybe I should have because Storm and Fury is a spin-off from that series. With that said, I struggled a little with this one. Trinity Marrow is special. She is half human, half something else, and that “something” is very powerful. Trinity lives in a regional seat of the Wardens somewhere bordering West Virginia and Maryland. Wardens are human looking but when they need to fight and protect, they shift into their true forms: gargoyles. I thought that was really cool and different. They protect the world against demons and all things evil. I really liked getting to know Trinity because she’s quirky, tough, spunky and skilled in combat. She can also see spirits and ghosts. Peanut, is a ghost that lingers around her and he is pretty funny. Trinity is also very impulsive and wants to help kick demon butt, but the Wardens need to keep her safe. Thing is she’s always getting into trouble or trouble seems to find her. Zayne is a Warden with a past, apparently all of which can be read in The Dark Elements series! ♀️ He’s a gorgeous, strong Warden and he and Trinity have sparks right away. It’s all good until it kept getting a bit repetitive. At first I enjoyed their dialogue, but I felt like it could have moved along quicker. Once Trinity and Zayne leave West Virginia is when the action and romance really picks up. This happens all in the second half of the book which is my favorite part. The sparks really ignite between them but also it’s all very complicated because of Zayne’s past. And then the ending was a surprising twist that left me sad. Also it reveals some things about Zayne and Trinity that didn’t leave me feeling satisfied about the outcome (trying not to mention any spoilers here). For me, the second half was the best part of the book and a lot of the first half could’ve been trimmed. Also, I thought the 80’s pop cultural references were funny but because that’s my childhood and I got it. It’s why I adored Peanut. ☺️ I think fans of the Dark Elements series will love this one but it was just an okay read for me.

Storm and Fury is the first book in The Harbinger series written by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This young adult (YA) urban fantasy novel is published by Inkyard Press and set to be released on June 11, 2019. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This review is spoiler-free. Storm and Fury is a book that is set in the same world as the Dark Elements series. Even though I have not read that series, I did not feel confused or like I was missing something. The world was very well explained. Now, I’m curious about the other series and will certainly give it a try. The Story: Living hidden among Wardens (gargoyles), eighteen-year-old Trinity and her community suddenly face violent attacks by demons. When someone close to her is taken hostage, Trinity must ally with members of another community of Wardens and end the attacks once and for all. In her journey, Trinity fights all sorts of demons. She also has to face her fears and a disease that threatens to render her completely blind while falling in love with a Warden who, like her, hides explosive secrets. The Review: This book is a fun ride. The story is well-written with a unique voice that remains true to a teenager’s. The main character, Trinity, is very interesting and fun to read about. The two main characters, Trinity and Zayne, face impossible situations at a young age and react very differently to them. The interesting part is how their personalities complement each other. The progression of their relationship feels genuine and makes it a pleasant read. I must say that the side characters, especially Peanut, made me laugh out loud. I so want a Peanut in my life. For the most part, this book is a fast-paced story. There was a moment when the story slowed down, but that’s because the author is setting up the grand finale, and oh boy! The story does pick up. I love the ending, and I can’t wait to read the second installment. I give this book a four-and-a-half-star rating because of that moment when I wasn’t sure/confused as of where it was going, but the story has an exciting development, well worth reading. What a fun ride! I highly recommend it.

Haven't read the first in series so I was a little confused how everything began. But it is a good different paranormal with drama, action, angst, and romance. Trinity and Zayne are great together. Love Trinity . Would be better to read the first in series. Voluntarily reviewed

4+ stars After reading the Lux series, The Darkest Star and now Storm & Fury, Jennifer Armentrout has become an autobuy author for me. She has just the right blend of sassy, endearing, cinnamon role and plot twists; this book is no different…and now I am stuck waiting for book two of this series AND The Darkest Star. Well done Ms. Armentrout, well done.

I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. So far, I'm really enjoying this book. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I'm interested in reading other books by her now. It's a story of Trinity, a human girl, or so we are led to believe, who is living among Wardens which are gargoyles tasked to fight Demons. Trinity has a secret, though, one only few know. It makes her a weapon and the demons want her. It's got a wonderful plot and the characters have a depth of spirit. Trinity is feisty and kick-@ss, but flawed. She's so powerful, but nearly blind. What an idea, to write a character in this dangerous world who had to reply on herself and her other senses. I love it. And then there's Zayne the flawed gargoyle, who is missing part of his soul. They are suppose to be pure and perfect. Can these imperfect characters learn to work together to save their friend? I can't wait for the next book.

I loved this book! Even when I wasn't able to read the book, I was still thinking about it. Trinity is special. Even though she's slowly going blind, she could kick your butt. She's so special, she has a protector bonded with her, Misha, whose job is to make sure she's safe. But being special has its drawbacks. She doesn't know what it's like to live a normal life. Even though she's eighteen, she's stuck inside this compound with Wardens... which are gargoyle-like creatures. Everybody thinks she's human, but humans and wardens don't fraternize. Part of her longs for that sort of companionship. Then she meets Zayne. Her protector says that he's bad news though. Is he? I had a hard time putting down this book. Even when I had to set the book aside and get my work done, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The writing and characters drew me in. I wanted to know what happened next. Trinity has an eye condition that will eventually lead to blindness. I thought this was an interesting touch. After I finished the book, I read the acknowledgements and learned that the author suffers from the same condition. I thought that it was an interesting touch and made her more interesting. Although this book is in an established universe, I've never read any of Ms. Armentrout's books before. I definitely plan on reading more of her books in the future. I will also be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, because I really want to find out what happens next in this series.

This is a spin off from another series which I hadn't read. However, not only do I feel I'm not missing anything, I'm actually excited that I have a new series to read. (Or an old series new to me) Ghosts, gargoyles, demons, romance, mystery..all in one well written adventure. What more could you ask for? I got sucked into this world and I couldn't read it fast enough to know what happened next! Totally looking forward to the next one in this series. I received this from net gallery in advance and I want to say thank you. However, that didn't effect my review.

Last time we were in this world, Layla had just defeated the evil Lillin and was walking into the sunset with Roth by her side. Although we see more of this power couple, they are not the main focus of the new installment. This book instead focuses on Zayne and Trinity. Zayne was left heartbroken with Layla choosing Roth and his father sacrificing his life, and had hardened to the world. He deserved some good in his life, and that’s what JLA delivered. Trinity is a powerful heroine who has been kept dormant all her life waiting for her time to come. I really enjoyed learning about her character. Trinity battles that same eye disease that JLA has, which I thought was a neat way for her to explain her struggles to the readers. This book has a little of everything. From fierce fight scenes to snarky arguments loaded with sexual tension, the story will draw you in with each chapter. You get to see more of the characters from the first three books while meeting a whole new division of players. In addition to a new couple, the story also introduces a new villain. I don’t want to ruin the story, but I will say I did not see that ending coming. I thought I had the story all figured out, but then the ultimate twist happened. Of course, the book ends with more to come, and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on the next part. This story is different from the books I usually read with the gargoyle aspect, so it was a nice break in the cycle. I highly recommend everyone read this series. Although you don’t “have” to read the first three books to understand this story, it really adds a layer of information. Plus the original trilogy is an awesome read, so it’s not a hardship.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little heavy on the "teen romance" for me but my students would certainly enjoy it. Trinity is a brave heroine who is struggling with being different based on her birth but also with a physical illness that is stealing her fight. Her desire to accept who she is and her unwillingness to be sidelined due to her vision makes her an admirable heroine. Her relationships with Misha, with whom she has been bonded since childhood , and with Zayne, with whom she has an undeniable connection come together as she works to save her friend and also question what she's always been told about the nature of creatures. Overall, a solid read and I will likely read the rest of the series once it's available. Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Storm and Fury was so easy to fall into. Somehow the situations and characters felt familiar and about 1/3 of the way through I had an aha! moment and realized this is a spinoff to a The Dark Elements series I’d read several years ago in which Zayne was featured prominently. In this novel, Zayne’s past experiences with Demons comes in handy as they travel to DC where he and Trinity meet up with some familiar past characters (a few of whom are demons) to investigate the disappearance of her friend. I liked Trinity’s character a lot. She was an interesting mix of innocence, strength, and stubbornness. As the plot moves forward and her secrets are revealed she becomes even more interesting. Her failing eyesight, a very human frailty, is an interesting contrast to a girl who refuses to admit weakness. In fact, it takes a little while for me to figure out she’s actually almost blind. Read the Afterword about her ailment, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and how that disease has a personal tie to the author. Zayne was a mystery even though he’d been part of a previous series. I couldn’t figure out his motives right away and I liked him as the love interest, but at the same time I felt he was a little more mature than Trinity. As his life was revealed and I realized all that he’d been through I realized what a great fit he actually was for her, as they had similar tragedies in their background. After I figured out what series and where I read his story before I liked him even more, but if you hadn’t read The Dark Elements Series, I think you can jump right in and not miss a beat in this story. It stands on it’s own. Jennifer Armentrout does such a great job of writing in this YA fantasy genre. I love her world building and she has a deft hand with giving characters interesting backgrounds and emotional ups and downs. All things that keep me reading and move the plot forward. It’s rare that I get bored and I certainly didn’t with this novel. I relished reading it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley for my honest review and it was honest!

Jeniffer L. Armentrout has an amazing talent for writing wonderfully addicting books. She makes such fun and likable characters that I just can't help but want to read more about. And she's done it again with Storm and Fury.  I loved Trinity. She was such a fun and badass character. I also loved Zayne. He's too cute! He didn't have a bad boy complex as we see most boys in this genre of fiction have. He was a decent human being (or Warden) from the start. He was charming and funny and I loved his banter with Trinity. No one will ever top Katy and Daemon from Armentrout's Lux series, but I am totally here for this ship! That said, the book was very romance focused. A little too much at times where there were clearly other, more important issues to worry about and sometimes I wanted to roll my eyes at it. At the same time, I was nothing if not totally there for it. And still,  I had many other problems with this book. My first issue is that this book is 500+ pages long! There was literally no need for that. The plot didn't actually get going until almost halfway through the book. This is conflicting because I spent the first half of the novel wondering when the heck the main plot was going to kick in. And yet, I was flying through it, only noticing I was halfway through after taking a step back and looking at the percentage on my Kindle. I barely felt the 500 pages go by. I read most of this one sitting! My other issue is that this book is a bit cliche. Having read some of Jennifer's books, I felt like I knew what was coming. I feel like there is a formula to her works. A formula I love, mind you, but a formula I could see coming. I called every single thing that happened in this book by like chapter nine. All of that said, I really liked this book. I liked it and I need the sequel in my hands right now because I can't wait a whole year to know what comes next. I've seen some people comparing it to Cassandra Clare's works, and maybe that's a good comparison. But hey, Cassandra's works are famous for a reason. They are just so gosh darn entertaining! Overall, I really liked this book. It was fun an entertaining and I want the sequel to come out already. If you like Cassandra Clare books and other urban fantasy/ supernatural romance types of novels, then I totally recommend this one.

I never got around to reading the other Gargoyle series by this author, but I may go back and try it now (if I have time to fit it in my reading schedule). I really liked this one, not obsessed, but really enjoyed. I wasn’t sure about the whole gargoyle thing...vampires are one thing, gargoyles were a stretch to me; but, it worked. I liked the world that was built here and really enjoyed most of the characters. Trinity was a confused, yet strong young woman with a humorous/sassy personality. Some of her remarks reminded me of things I would say. I also liked that she was a main character with a disability that she was managing life with, very relatable to me and so many others. I will be highly recommending this one to my high school students when we start back late this summer and to colleagues that I know enjoy these kinds of books. Great start to a series! I will be waiting for more.

I was so enticed by this novel from the title alone. From that I knew this book will be packed with adventure. Storm and Fury was a combination of Eragon, Mortal Instruments, and Twilight all in one. I was waiting for a book like this that I would be able to read from beginning to end, patiently awaiting the second installment. I really hope my wish is fulfilled and that this will become a series because I could not put this book down. This plot had drama, action, conflict and an amazing ending that was totally unexpected and a great surprise. We will consider adding this title to our YFantasy collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

Wardens, Angels and Demons....OH MY! If you haven't read The Dark Elements series first, please make sure you read those first. There will be super spoilers if you don't do so. If you're a fan of all things Supernatural, then this is the book for you! It gives out all the feels. The characters Zayne (swoon) and Trinity are well written and all around amazing! Who doesn't love a good gargoyle romance story? There is nothing out there quite like this story and that's what I love about it. It's super creative and fun to read!

What a fascinating world and concept! I was so caught up in this story and addicted to these characters. Jennifer L. Armentrout can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned. This is an unusual take on angels and demons that focuses far more on Wardens, which are gargoyles come to life. And oh, my goodness, do I need a gargoyle, stat. Holy mother of all things sexy and brutal. This book will definitely cross appeal to both the YA crowd and the NA crowd. I think it is a must purchase for all collections serving those audiences, and while there is a solid wrap up and conclusion to book one, I still can't wait to get my hands on book two. This is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a bit of forbidden romance tucked in between vicious demon attacks. There's also some good humor with this story, and Trinity, the MC, is very strong, determined, and impulsive. She gets herself into scrape after scrape, because she doesn't allow a group of men to dictate what she should do or who she should be. I really enjoyed her. I meant to post this review yesterday, when the book was released, but I was delayed by unexpected house guests (oops!). Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book.

Well, I think Roth was my first JLA book boyfriend, the original series that we met Zayne in. So I was definitely glad when Roth did show up again. As always, once I picked this up to read, all I wanted to do was sit and read to the very last page and do nothing else. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do that, and it took me several days to finish. Darn work and sleeping, etc. It was so much fun to be back in the world of gargoyles and demons. While I'd never been Team Zayne, because I was Team Roth all the way, that was with Layla. Here, for Trinity, I became Team Zayne in no time. What I love about Armentrout's heroines is that they are all so sarcastic and so much like I see myself and my friends. And I love the banter and relationships between the characters in her worlds as well. The references to the tv show Supernatural, which is one of my all time favorites, other than this past year I guess, are so much fun. The fact that Zayne has a car like Dean, totally made me laugh. It was also fun that Trinity could talk to ghosts, that was a fun new aspect to this story. There were so many times I thought maybe I was seeing something going on, but this author totally knows how to keep me on my toes, thinking one thing, but then the next thing that happened would send my mind down another path of what might be going on. Loved this new story, and while it definitely was left open for another book, I mean who is this Harbinger and what are they after, it had a definite ending, so that I wasn't cursing the author for leaving me waiting till the next book. My only issue with the book is a slightly technical one. When Trinity says she wanted to be an archeologist after the movie Jurassic Park, the science teacher/wannabe paleontologist in me must point out that she means paleontologist, an archeologist might be after the movie The Mummy. While I read an e-galley of this, I will definitely be buying a finished copy, debating if I can afford to do one of the pre-order deals, but don't think I can, so I'll just buy it when I get the chance. I will however be sure to purchase it for my high school library with my budget money next year.

ALL the stars in the sky! Holy gargoyle babies everywhere! This was such a wild, amazing ride. My emotions are all over the place but I just have to let them lose in writing because I can’t contain my excitement over this book. This world is beyond unique and it was so good to be back. I have to confess I wasn’t #TeamZayne when reading The Dark Elements series, but boy, the tables have turned now. He’s moved to the top of my BBFs list. Zayne was this intimidating and a bit moody Warden dealing with his own issues from the past. But he was so kind and loving, just the way I remembered him from before. Trinity was such a sweetheart and even though she had all these powers and intriguing qualities surrounding her character, she was going through some very human emotions and insecurities. I loved her instantly. The banter between them was hilarious and sexy at the same time. I might have giggled like a schoolgirl with their exchanges. It was a slow-burning romance, gradually built, but so so beautifully written. I read and reread some parts over and over to savor each word. There were also some seriously steamy scenes and the chemistry was off the charts hot. But there were also intense battles and nail-biting moments that I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happens. Crazy action, danger lurking at every corner and a strong female lead that I fell head over heels in love with. That’s what you’re getting into with this book. It was obvious this story was so personal for Jen. You could feel it in every word and every reference to this disease she is dealing with herself. I’m more in awe with her as a writer after reading this book. It requires a lot of strength and courage to do what she does having her condition. And I admire her even more for that now. The emotions were front and center in this book but combined with all the fast-paced battles, lovable characters, poignant backstories, touching romance and intriguing plot and this story turned into the perfect package. Add to that some very clear messages with life truths inside that made me think and really appreciate the little things we take for granted. And you got yourself an unforgettable experience. The book-hangover is guaranteed because this would surely be your next favorite book. Consider yourself warned.

Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout is the first book in her new Harbinger series, which is a YA fantasy paranormal story. This is a spin off from Armentrout’s Dark Elements series, which I have not read, but this read very well without reading the previous series, but if I have time, I need to read that series. Storm and Fury revolves around Wardens (Gargoyles) and Demons We meet our heroine, Trinity Marrow, who is 18 years old, and has lived most of her life among the Wardens, who are protectors of the human race against the demons. Trinity has hidden abilities that only a select few know. She is a trueborn (half human, half angel), and can see ghost and spirits, as well as being very powerful. Trinity has trained to fight since she was young with the Wardens, and is just as good or better than some of them. Misha, one of the Gargoyle wardens is her protector and is bonded to her. Trinity makes a wonderful heroine, as she is not only strong, smart, independent, confident, but she also has to deal with an eye disease that slowly degenerates. Zayne, our hero, is part of another Warden group that come to visit to ask for help; since someone is killing Wardens and Demons. Zayne quickly becomes interested in Trinity, because she doesn’t fit with the other people at their complex; since he has no idea what Trinity is. There is an immediate attraction between Zayne and Trinity, which neither understand, especially when Zayne says there is a familiarity about her. In a short time, Zayne and his group will discover the truth about Trinity and after an attack at the compound, they will offer to protect and help her, since Misha was kidnapped and Trinity is determined to find him. What follows is a wild exciting intense action-packed adventure, with a number of surprising twists. I loved Zayne and Trinity together, even if it was slow burn, since Zayne has a past love that went awry (part of previous series); but once they allowed themselves to succumb to their feelings, it was combustible. I also loved the secondary characters, especially Peanut (a ghost), Roth, Layla, Dez, etc. Storm and Fury is a fantastic start to this new series revolving around Gargoyles, Demons, Angels and Ghosts, as well as the wonderful & sexy romance between Zayne and Trinity. Trinity continuing to grow into her powers was great, and I cannot wait to learn more in the future books. Jennifer L. Armentrout once again gives us a fun, heartwarming, romantic, as well as intense action filled story that keeps us on the edge of our seat. I look forward to the next book in this series.
