Life often deals us hardships beyond our control, yet Millie understood what the true meaning of life is, and success is often measured within your heart.
This intriguing autobiography follows the life of Millie Wierer. Born in 1909 into a privileged family in the Bohemia, her story traces her life with wit and humor through the young Czecholslovakia, chronicling the politics of the time. Her education is detailed as is her marriage to a rising young law professor. The turmoil of war years under Nazi occupation is covered as is the Soviet invasion and the family's harrowing escape West with their six year old daughter. Life's struggles as refugees in Post War Germany follow and finally their coming to the United States and eventual citizenship. The autobiography was writen as a Christmas gift to her grandchildren before her death but the story is enlightening to all readers interested in the politics and personages involved with the history of Czecholsovakia and Post War Germany and in a strong, gifted woman's struggles to keep her family together, alive and focused during tumultuous times.
