In the early 70s, I became an aspiring writer of short & long stories, a four-act closet drama, and an unfinished novel. I had spent two years then nurturing the ambition to become an author of some repute. But the going was tough, creating a feeling of insecurity for the future. In time, I shelved the idea and got a job as a hospital porter. Later I did a BA (Eng. & Edu.), did a 4-term course for mental-health carers. Then I completed the first of two stages of psychotherapy education and did several short courses in cognitive therapy. I worked in a psychiatric clinic, and retired a few years ago and, after that, I did mental-health counselling.
