This text is a collection of the revised papers presented at the Fifth Conference on Job Creation organized by the IESE Business School at the U. of Navarra, Barcelona, in June 1999. Fourteen scholars (13 from Europe and one from the U.S.) examine some of the key changes experienced by modern businesses in response to the pressures of new technology and competitive markets. Coverage includes how companies adapt their competitive strategy to market changes; how strategic changes translate into organization changes within the company, and in new approaches to handling relationships with employees and collaborators; and what the consequences are to employers and employees. For social economists, employment analysts, business managers and scholars.
