"Streets of Gold" looks at some of today's most current issues of social justice, such as wealth distribution and equity of opportunity, through the lens of two very different characters. Scooby and Tom Milford come from two very different sides of Los Angeles, and yet it only takes minutes for their lives to become intertwined. And as different as Scooby and Milford are, they both are struggling to find a fit in the circumstances they were dealt. Set against the backdrop of police corruption, gang affiliation and the potential for cultural unrest, "Streets of Gold" ultimately looks at the human spirit and what we are capable of when we make the hard decisions that are congruent with the core of who we are.

Scary. Real. Scary because it's real. Glad I stumbled across this one.

The description is brief, but visual in a way that had me playing the movie version in my imagination. Because of this it's extremely fast-paced, which matches the storyline (a gang member tracking down a wealthy entrepreneur to exact revenge). I haven’t read too many books like this. It was refreshing.
