The Strenuous Life is the name of a speech given by Theodore Roosevelt in Chicago, Illinois on April 10, 1899. Based on his personal experiences, Theodore Roosevelt argued that strenuous effort and overcoming hardship were ideals to be embraced by Americans for the betterment of the United States and the world in the 20th century. Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, reformer, and the 26th President of the United States of America from 1901 to 1909.
