I can see why Some might find this book with too much sex and violence, but it's not really 'too' much. People do bad things in books, as in life, and the author has presented that in pitch-perfect detail.

I read about this book in the Duluth News Tribune, and was intrigued to read a mystery that takes place in a small northern Minnesota lake community. This book has it all. The author deftly captures the small Minnesota town like only someone who has lived there can. (And I hear he grew up in a town just like Bear Lake.) This is not only a place-driven novel, though. The characters jump from the page. You want to love them; you want to hate them. Highly recommended. I'll be reading more from this author.

If you have not discovered Trevor Scott yet, you should now. I started out reading his third thriller, and then went back and started from his first book Fatal Network. Wow! A major publisher needs to find this guy. With Strong Conviction, Scott develops a mystery with a flavor of the old masters, while bringing to life a small town in northern Minnesota. In fact, the small town becomes a character. You have to read this. I was in the dark until the end.
