Smart, tough, and capable, the MacLarens protect their own no matter the odds. Set against Americas rugged frontier, the stories of the men from Fire Mountain are complex, fast-paced, and a must read for anyone who enjoys non-stop action and romance.
Drew MacLaren is focused and strong. He has achieved all of his goals except oneto return to the MacLaren ranch and build the best horse breeding program in the west. His successful career as an attorney is about to give way to his ranching roots when a bullet changes everything.
Tess Taylor is the quiet, serious daughter of a Colorado ranch family with dreams of her own. Her shy nature keeps her from developing friendships outside of her close-knit family until Drew enters her life. Their relationship grows. Then a bullet, meant for another, leaves him paralyzed and determined to distance himself from the one woman hes come to love.
Convinced he is no longer the man Tess needs, Drew focuses on regaining the use of his legs and recapturing a life he thought lost. But danger of another kind threatens those he cares aboutincluding Tessforcing him to rethink his future.
Can Drew overcome the barriers that stand between him, the safety of his friends and family, and a life with the woman he loves? To do it all, he has to be strong. Stronger than the Rest.
Hello, Drew. She walked forward to stand a few feet away. I hope its all right that Ive come. Her voice was unsteady, her nervousness apparent.
No, its not all right. Of course. Im glad to see you. You look beautiful. He cleared his throat. Did you have a safe trip?
Oh, yes, it was wonderfulso majestic and breathtaking. Sometimes we forget how beautiful some things are when we havent seen them in a while.
Drew drank in the sight of her. Yes we do, Tess. We certainly do.
He opened his arms and Tess fell into them, clutching his shirt, and burying her head in his neck.
Drew pulled her tighter and buried his face in her hair. He was vaguely aware of a door opening and closing. He looked up to see that Jericho was gone.
It was just the two of them. She squirmed a little on his lap and Drew felt a slight hardening of his body. Hed felt the sensations for the last few days and hoped they were an indication that his entire body was healing. Relief washed over him as he realized another hurdle was being crossed.
When Tess lifted her face to his it seemed natural to move his lips over hers. It was a soft caress, just a touch. He brushed his lips over hers. She strained to get closer. His hands moved to the back of her head and deepened the kiss. Her lips parted, and his tongue traced the edges of her mouth. He knew she had little experience and didnt want to frighten her.
Tess melted into his arms. She was totally unprepared for the warmth that swam over her body. She could smell the mixture of pine soap and fresh sweat and couldnt stop herself from running her fingers along his cheek bones, and wrapping her hands around his neck to draw him closer. She never wanted the kiss to stop.

Have read all the books in this series and there is something for everybody in all of them... Excellent characters, realistic story lines and a small town most of us would like to live in... Loved the tough/strong female characters in all of the books and will read more if Ms. Davies continues the series.
Great story, of the family in Fire Mountain. Could not put it down. Family was important to this family. Highly reccomended..
Each book in this series gets better than the last one. Great job!
I'm a great fan of Shirleen Davies. Stronger than the Rest is the fourth installment in the MacLarens of Fire Mountain and it does not disappoint. The story continues where 'Harder than the Rest,' left off - just after Drew MacLaren had been shot and paralyzed. It's a raw deal for Drew, who now finds himself cooped up in office when he'd rather be out ranching and to make matters worse, he's in love with the delicious Tess Taylor whom he feels he cannot propose to, unless he has full use of his legs. Men! That's not all that's going down. Smuggling, cattle hustling, kidnapping, murder - you name it and you'll find it in Cold Creek. Can the MacLaren's save the day once more? Will Tess and Drew manage to get themselves paired up - you'll need to pick up a copy and find out! I love the fact that Ms Davies always sets up a new book before the last one has finished and I'm already interested in both Connor and Pierce's story. I certainly hope there will be many, many more books to look forward to in the future. A 5 star read with a gripping plot, plenty of action and some good old fashioned romance.
This book is certainly a work of art in my view, it leaves no space for boredom or uninteresting area, I loved it all. Besides over sleeping due to staying up late just to catch another page and another page, it was worth every minute for me. I love this story so much I had to recommend it to my girlfriend.
Now if you for one second expect this book to be the usual predictable story, then you are in for a real surprise. I especially love the way the author puts it all together in this most captivating way as the character of Drew is simply impeccable. His relationship with Tess makes one of the most interesting reads I have experienced for a long while. Avid readers will certainly have a ball with this one.
