Everyone gets ‘stuck’ at one time or another. We get bogged down in our daily lives by commitments, discontentment, and emotions. Sometimes we don’t even realize how stuck we are until we reach that critical moment in our lives when it suddenly feels like ‘it’s all too much!’ Enter the Stuck study by Jennie Allen, which focuses on the “places we get stuck & the God who sets us free.” Similar to the grieving process, the process of getting unstuck involves coming full circle with our emotions – working our way from feeling broken, mad, discontent, scared, overwhelmed, and sad to getting our selves unstuck. In a series of eight lessons, Jennie shows us how to get honest with - and build trust in - God in order to fix what is not working in our lives. Even with a Master’s degree in theology, Jennie addresses her audience in a close, sit-down, mom-to-mom kind of way that is easy to relate to. Although designed for small groups, the full impact of the Stuck study is not lost on those who wish to participate on an individual basis. As Jennie points out, “the goal of this study is to dig deep into Scripture and uncover how it applies to your life.” Whatever approach you take – introspectively or within the community of a group – Stuck provides participants with sound, straightforward perspective on allowing God to into our busy, crazy lives. What Stuck is not is a ‘quick fix’ method of solving problems. Rather, what you get out of it is what you put into it. Take time to do the work and study the Bible and in time you will get unstuck. Each lesson involves watching a short, 10-15 minute video, working through the study questions and four application projects assigned to each lesson, and engaging in discussion (or reflection) using thought-provoking discussion cards in each of the ‘stuck’ areas. From the perspective of a mom, Stuck is a wonderful study that has much relevance for the issues faced by today’s busy mom. The lessons are short, yet focused; packing a powerful punch to those of us feeling the pressure to be more or do more than what seems humanly possible. *I was provided a copy of the Stuck study by Thomas Nelson Publishers for review purposes. Have you ever walked around with a big smile on your face, pretending to be happy while inside, you felt broken? Are you ever overcome by waves of sadness or fear? Are there days when you look around and just feel overwhelmed by everything before you? Have life’s circumstances left you angry… discontent… and unsure of how to move past these emotions? You’re not alone. There are places in each of our lives where we feel stuck. That’s why Jennie Allen designed this fresh, relevant bible study. She wants to help women connect with one another as they move through the stuck places in their lives. She also wants women to deepen their relationship with the God who sets them free. Stuck is a multi-faceted eight-week women’s bible study that you can also adapt for personal use. The Stuck DVD-Based Study contains four items: A Stuck See DVD where Jennie introduces each week's topic in a short video. A Stuck Lead Guide that helps build effective group leaders. A Stuck Study Guide that contains the participant's study materials. A set of Stuck Ask Cards which serve as conversation guides and journaling prompts. I liked this study for several reasons. First, I enjoyed the videos. They were short, relevant, and beautifully produced. Jennie – the author and featured narrator in the videos – comes across as a caring, compassionate guide who truly sets the tone for the study. I also liked the conversation cards. They serve as a unique ice breaker in groups and are highly adaptable for personal use. Most importantly, I liked the study itself. It encourages women to connect with one another and to talk honestly and transparently about issues that we all struggle with but often sweep under the rug. It does so in unique and creative ways. It incorporates creative activities such as journaling that are often excluded from traditional studies. And, it does these things while keeping the focus on God and Scripture. If you’re looking for a bible study that can truly change your life, I highly recommend Stuck!

Have you ever felt like you were stuck spiritually? I know I have. It's almost as if you feel like you want more for your life but it seems as though life's obstacles won't allow you to move forward. I got the chance to review a DVD based bible study called "Stuck - the places we get stuck & the God who sets us free", by Jennie Allen through Booksneeze. The title really grabbed me. Inside, there are 8 short, but very deep videos that provide the transparency we need to take a good honest look into our situations. After watching the video, you work on the project that goes with the video. There's even a leaders guide so that you can host a DVD study in your home or church. Conversation cards have spontaneous questions that get you thinking. I really enjoyed the the videos. They were peaceful and and had great scenery. Jeannie Allen's presence is both honest and reassuring. This study would be best for women who are struggling, feeling depressed or overwhelmed with life and don't know where to turn. It can be used in a group of 8 - 12 women, but I found it can also be done alone or with a more intimate group. This study is meant to bring stuck women closer to a God who can set them free.

¿The vision is that we would see broken spots in our soul.¿ I received the leaders¿ kit for this group Bible study program that contains a leader¿s guide, a workbook, a DVD with eight video lessons, and a deck of conversation and scripture cards. The Bible Study Meeting: The leader is reminded to listen, not lecture, and not to counsel. The lessons, except lesson one, are to be completed at home before the meeting. To do the lessons properly I would say they would probably take 30-45 minutes at home to study and complete. The homework discussion at the meeting should last 20-30 minutes. The DVD lessons are very nicely produced. The speaker is engaging and the backgrounds in the video are very nice. The video and teaching should last 10-40 minutes. There is a deck of cards that contain questions used as conversation starters. The cards for that week are set out and each lady chooses her favorite one. The scripture card for the week is also placed out. The ground rules for the card session are: 1. Be concise 2. Keep sharing confidential 3. Rely on scripture for truth 4. No counseling Meeting attendees are reminded of these rules at each meeting. The women are then asked to ¿share¿ their answers to the question they chose. This session should last 30-75 minutes. I chose three questions randomly as examples: 1. What do you love more than God? 2. What things in your life right now get you down? 3. How has your past contributed to your stuck places? The material as a whole is very good and we all want to be able to say ¿It is well with my soul.¿ I would say that this Bible study would appeal to young women, immature Christians, and not-yet believers seeking God for their lives. Jennie talks quite a bit about her life and her children in the DVD lessons, and I think this age group would find it most engaging. It is very much a feelings based study, and some of the sharing the women are asked to participate in is very personal. The fact that the leader is to remind them at each meeting that the conversation is confidential means that it could be very damaging if that confidentiality isn¿t held. The print in both the leader¿s book and the study guide is gray instead of black and is very difficult to read. While lovely to look at, it is very hard on the eyes. My hope is that in later printings the print will be darkened. With only eight lessons, I think this is a good way for women who feel they are stuck in their spiritual lives and to receive a needed push to move forward.

I had the awesome opportunity to review a new bible study curriculum called "Stuck" by Jennie Allen. How many of us get stuck? Stuck in sadness of loving a job, a loved one or a dream that never manifested? How much of get stuck in our job, life, marriage or spiritually? God wants to fix these broken spots in our lives. He wants us to be on a journey with him and others to be honest about our places of brokenness, in an effort to let God restore us. This kit had deep discussion questions, eight dvd videos, a leader guide and a study guide. The eight dvd sessions are short, but would provide great discussion for a Bible Study. I love how the study goes through emotions. As women, we tend to be emotional about things and this devotional curriculum goes through the emotions a woman might feel or not being aware of, especially as she is seeking to be honest about the areas in her life where holes may be present. I really think this is a great Bible study and it biblically based. Thank you booksneeze for allowing me to review it!

Jennie Allen has created a women's study that seems workable and effective. With many topics that are of interest to people of all ages, adding a theological spin to help guide discussions. The topics are pertinent and useful. It is well laid out, and easy to follow. The only comment I have that may be negative (or positive depending on your tradition) is that the language she uses for God is overbearingly masculine. In a woman's study especially, creative usage of the broader feminine aspects of God, as revealed to us through Scripture, would prove valuable.

have gotten the privilege of reviewing Jennie Allen's study, Stuck, which is about how we sometimes feel stuck in life, and how God wants to free us from those places. I have to tell you that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the materials. As a person who has led a lot of small groups, I've seen a lot of curriculum, some good, some bad, and a lot inbetween. Jennie's study is a womens DVD study, and it is a teacher's dream. She offers a variety of ways to engage with the material (studying, journaling, imagining, conversation, watching a DVD), and it's the real deal. This study seems to be written from her heart, and comes out of a journey that she has obviously been on. One unique feature of this study is a box of conversation cards that are to be used to start meaningful conversation each week that allows for authentic sharing related to the study. While I haven't started the study with a group of women yet, I think it has real potential to touch on the places of where many women struggle- anger, discontentment, fear, anxiety, sadness. She tries to focus the study not on circumstances, but on God's character. This is helpful because it gets the focus off of the women's issues, and trains her eye to look beyond herself. The only thing I didn't like about this study was how Jenny ended lesson 1- with a questioning of the reader's faith. I've been to one too many "are you sure you're really saved?" talks, and they just aren't that helpful, in my opinion. Everyone has doubt at one point in their life or another, and by having doubts does not mean we're not saved, and that we don't have a relationship with God. While I want to say that "100 percent sure my hope is in Him alone", I do have moments, and sometimes days, of doubt. Although I have heard from God, and have a relationship with Him, there are times when the darkness settles in and I begin second-guessing those experiences. For the woman who isn't secure in the ability to doubt, but yet believe, they may question the realness of their faith at this point in the study. I'm not sure that this part of the lesson would be that productive in moving someone forward, unless, of course, they actually didn't have a relationship with God. But, I'd absolutely recommend this study. It's short, it's packaged well, it touches on relevant issues in a way that lends itself to deep personal exploration. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze® book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

OUTSTANDING!!! BUY THIS BOOK! I wasn't expecting a lot from this DVD. The title didn't do much for me either - Stuck. Pretty looking large box with two small booklets and one DVD. I wasn't all that sure what the book was about either. I saw people on Amazon gave it 5 stars, but anything Christian always gets 4-5 stars, so I didn't believe it. I would have guessed, I would give it 2 stars. 3 stars at the very most. But this book is 5 stars - OUTSTANDING! This is about living for the glory of God and not wasting your life on endless to-do-lists and chores. Don't wait until your life is almost over to realize how many years you have wasted. It is SOOO biblically based. Also, I think nearly every denomination or non-denominational Christian will agree with this book. It isn't slanted. It is also, completely non-offensive. Men and women BOTH must listen to it! I never say good things about books - but this one I do! The DVD is SOOOOO GOOD. It is Biblically right on! I was certain I was going to catch Jennie Allen teaching something out of line with the Bible and at times I was certain she was off base, but she ALWAYS pulled the story around in the end and made serious life-changing points. I am still in SHOCK. How could I have liked this THAT much? My sister and I watched it together. We are speechless. We never expected this - especially from a woman. WOW... IF THERE IS ONE BOOK YOU READ/DVD YOU WATCH - WATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!! Disclaimer: I received this book free of charge from the publisher but I am giving my honest review.

Stuck, a dvd based biblical study for women by Jennie Allen is worth every penny! You will solid get your monies worth out of this kit! It is a wonderful project for a womens bible study group packed full of methods to get your life unstuck and back on track with Gods will. We all see our future when we are young and its an easy soar to the top because we know our hearts are right with God but the devil creeps inside our minds and pollutes our thinking and the next thing you know our minds are no longer where they should be and our soaring glides lower and lower until we are barely above sea level and we can no longer see what God intended. I can not stress enough how beneificial this kit is and what a wonderful bible study it will make if you are looking to put together a womens devotional bible study group.

I've gone through the STUCK series both in a small group of about 8 women and in a larger setting at church. Both were awesome experiences. God used Jennie's honesty and passion to free me from so many places I was "stuck" in my life. I truly have felt freedom and am able to live my life differently because of how God used this study. I would definitely suggest any woman go through this! But be's convicting and will stretch you. But then comes the freedom in Christ!

Stuck is such a refreshing study. Jennie's transparency brings women of all ages to a place where they're forced to examine themselves and be vulnerable with others. I went through this study with my church and led it at a sorority house. Every week of the study, women were met with truth in places where they'd never before admitted they struggled. Many trusted Christ for the first time as they began to relate to their Christian peers and see how God had healed them through the places that they are stuck. Dealing with these specific issues in my own heart brought peace as I found victory in areas I didn't know victory was possible.

I had the honor of sitting in Jennie Allen's living room in 2009, for the pilot STUCK study. Although, at the time, I am sure she didn't have a clue it would be bound and on bookshelves in a mere two years. She just gathered a few of us up, women that she cares for and that she could talk through her stuck-ness with. And, more importantly, women that she darn-well knew were stuck themselves. Moving through the homework, the discussions, the quirky activities and mostly, the Scripture, set me on a path to healing and to prying myself free from some pretty yucky stuck places. If you feel that you can identify, even a twinge, with the idea of being stuck.I dare you to do this study. Cause God ain't gonna let you stay in that messy place no more. He loves you, dear ones. *Check it out.*

I've done Stuck twice now...once with a small group of about 8 then another time with probably 100 women. Jennie has such a fresh approach to women's Bible study. She takes you to a place of real vulnerability and surrender to Jesus...and it is life changing. There is not a single woman who won't benefit from these lessons. It is so encouraging to sit with a group of women and realize you're not alone in your struggles...and you're not Stuck! Jennie points you to the only One who will truly satisfy. It is an amazing study. I highly recommend it!

I did this Bible study last year with a large diverse group of women. We had women ranging from their late teens to early sixties attend. We were divided into groups of 8 for discussion, accountability and prayer. The conversation cards would get us all sharing and then we would listen to the teaching. That led us into deeper discussion. The way the homework is designed is to draw out each type of leaner and thinker. You have opportunities to draw how you experience God, make lists of God's attributes, journal and dig deeply into Scripture. I found that this study helped me connect to the heart of God in a unique and personal way. It also helped each person to process with their group and build relationships. Whether you are looking for a study to do with college students, friends, or with your church at large, you will be challenged and encouraged by the depth and honesty of Jennie's teaching.

I had the opportunity to do "stuck" with a group of 8 girls. I can speak for all of us when I say we were all changed. The content is rich and straight to the point. With the projects and discussion cards, it allows each person to mold the study into what they need. As the group leader I did absolutely nothing to make everyone open up. The study is designed in a way that allows the discussion to flow easily and allows women to naturally open up. It was the most vulnerable our group has ever been with one another. Jennie is an amazing writer and her own vulnerability in her talks and words allow women to feel comfortable to open up and deal with their own junk.
