Before you begin to use this guide, you should familiarize yourself with its basic features. You will note that each chapter begins with a fill-in "Outline," followed by a "Legal Concepts" activity, a "Language of the Law" vocabulary review, and an "Applying the Law" series of case problems. Each of these activities has independent instructional value. However, used together, they can make it easier for you to succeed in achieving the goals of this course. Consistent and systematic review and study of the text in conjunction with the activities in this guide may also help to improve your scores on tests and examinations.
Completing this study guide is an answer key to the "Legal Concepts" and "Language of the Law" activities. It is recommended that you attempt to answer all exercises before refer-ring to the answer key for confirmation of your responses. Answers to "Applying the Law" activities are included in the Instructor's Resource Guide.
The fill-in "Outline," which begins each chapter, offers a summary of the major points covered in that chapter. This outline correlates to the outline presented in each chapter opener in the text and may be used as a study aid or as an indicator of subject mastery. Answers are not provided for thisactivity. If you cannot fill in a blank, use your text to locate the appropriate response. Although this activity is suggested for each chapter of the text covered, its completion is not a substitute for a thorough reading and review of that chapter.
The "Legal Concepts" are true-false statements designed to gauge your understanding of the concepts and principles introduced in the text. Completion of this activity will enable you to diagnose your strengths and weaknesses in mastering important concepts of law and help point out subject areas and topics presented in the text that require your further study.
"Language of the Law" is an activity that will help you to develop a working knowledge and understanding of key legal terms presented in the text. Strengthening your vocabulary will help you become more conversant and confident in classroom discussions concerning business law topics. This activity will also assist you in becoming familiar with, and retaining a comprehension of, terms you may encounter in your future business and legal relationships.
"Applying the Law" enables you to make immediate use, through interpretation and analysis, of principles learned in the text. You will find these cases ideally suited for classroom discussion because they are open to differing interpretations and opinions. This will help you to recognize and appreciate the fact that the law is not ironclad but subject to varying interpretations and applications.
This study guide has been produced both to test your comprehension of terms and concepts covered in the Business Law With UCC Applications text and to provide you with a quick and easy means of reviewing important chapter material. We wish you the best of luck in your course of study.
