I heard an interview with Mark on NPR, loved it and went straight to B&N to get this book for my Nook. Reading it is just as enjoyable and informative as his interview. I learn something from every page. He provides new conversation starters - "Did you know that...", always ending with me talking about this book. Thanks, Mark.

Easy and relaxing to read. Mark's many stories that explained fundamental materials such as concrete and glass were great! I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to those who would like to know how many of the materials in the world became the building blocks of society.

An enjoyable and very personal journey into materials; rather as if you met the author in the local pub and started chatting over a pint. Just as in a good conversation it leaves you both satisfied and curious to know more.
