Another winner! Too bad Julie James Day only comes around once a year. As usual with her books, the dialog is my favorite. This one is no exception, especially given that Victoria is an attorney and Ford is a journalist. Wordsmiths, right? Witty, snarky, and always the right comeback. I liked how the relationship grew over time. This was definitely not a case of insta-love, but more slowly getting to know each other in a more realistic manner. We also get to revisit old friendships with characters from previous books, as well as meet new ones. Ford's conversations with his BFF Brooke were great; the one about him being shirtless while cuddling a puppy had me cracking up! Victoria's therapy played a huge role in revealing her character. Just shows that strong, capable women can admit even they need a little help now and then. The internal relationship conflicts in both characters were the main focus in this story, rather than bonding over working together to fight bad guys that we've read in the FBI/US Attorney series. I hope Ford's sister, Nicole, gets her own HEA. Ford's friends Tuck and Charlie were a hoot. I didn't think we got to know Victoria's friends Audrey and Rachel very well, but part of that, it seems, is because Victoria held herself back as a self-protection mechanism. Overall, great story again from Ms. James. Not my fave of hers, but still a keeper.

## Good read. Albeit not quite as good as Brooke, Jordan, Cameron, and Kyle's stories (those were fabulous), it IS however much better than "It Happened One Wedding". The only problem I had with this book was the beginning. It dragged on. I get that we needed some backstory to set everything up, SOME being the operative word. The couple didn't even meet until page 65. By then I felt a little annoyed, hence the one star deduction. The rest, however, was marvelous. The friendship, witty banter, the jealousy, the conflict....all terrific. My favorite part of any book by Ms. James, are her heroines. Always strong, capable, kind and fun-loving. Every author should take note. Will read again for sure.

Suddenly One Summer by Julie James is another one of her wonderful fun romances. James does such a great job writing charming stories with characters that are adults, with successful careers, and each seemingly satisfied with their life. Even though this is not part of James’s FBI/US Attorney series, some of the characters in that series play a big part in this story. Ford Dixon is our hero, and he is an investigative journalist. While out at a local bar with his friends, a beautiful lady catches his eye. Victoria Slade is our heroine, and she is a very successful divorce attorney. Victoria also notices Ford, but when she sees the girls hanging over him, she brushes him off and enjoys the camaraderie of her two best friends. Victoria has just moved into a condo temporarily, after having a panic attack breakdown during a robbery at her home. Victoria is a very strong individual, smart, savvy and independent. But the robbery attempt opens up hidden issues from her childhood that now has brought out the anxiety attacks. She is secretly seeing a therapist, and throughout the story, while the therapist tries to bring out the hidden secrets deep in her mind, we learn more about her childhood fears. The first few days she is living at the condo, she hears all kinds of noise at night or early morning that disrupts her sleep. Of course, her neighbor is none other than Ford and the battle between the two of them begin, with each being snarky to each other, not to mention the wrong assumptions they reach. It is when Ford’s sister, Nicole comes to visit him, that will force the two of them to work together to help her. I loved Ford and Victoria together, even if they were both so different. Ford was fun loving, and Victoria was all business, not allowing herself to trust anyone. It was so much fun to watch the walls begin to crumble, and their sexual heat sizzled. They work together to help Nicole find the man she had a one night stand over a year ago, as she now has a child, and needs financial support. It was enjoyable to watch them during their undercover investigation playing various parts; their witty and snarky banter, and them getting to know each other. Did I say their chemistry was off the wall. J Despite things going good, it is Victoria’s issues that will cause problems, and we worry that this awesome couple will not make it together. Suddenly One Summer was a wonderful story, great couple, sexy, and a fun book to read. No surprise, as this is something I have come to expect from Julie James. I recommend that you read this book, and if you have not read Julie James yet, it is time for you to do so.

I just finished Suddenly One Summer by Julie James and I am left with another warm and happy heart. James knows how to write fun, witty contemporary romance that keeps you turning pages while smiling, laughing and sometimes shedding a tear along the way. In Suddenly One Summer we are treated to Ford’s romance. I first met him in Love Irresistibly as the best friend of Brooke, the heroine of that story. It is so fun watching Ford fall in love. As in all of James’ stories, the heroine in this books is quite kickass. Victoria is a Divorce Attorney with her own successful law firm who lives next to Ford, an Investigative Journalist for the Chicago Tribune. Both of them have (surprise) intimacy issues and while Victoria is seeing a therapist about hers and we get to experience her growth during the story with her, Ford is dealing with his on his own. There are several side plots to this story. I enjoyed them yet sometimes I felt as though they stalled the overall romance between Ford and Victoria a bit. I wanted more of them and less of Ford and Victoria individually. I would have liked to see Ford and Victoria’s relationship build a little more since her character didn’t trust easily so I was surprised at how quickly they became intimate, but all in all I was happy with it and it ended well. Suddenly One Summer is a solid contemporary romance. It is flirty, fun and enjoyable. If you are looking for a good contemporary romance to read, give this one a try.

Enjoyed the book very much and will look for additional offerings from this author. Victoria and Ford were very likable and "real" characters. Fords sister and his nutty friends added to the story... Victoria, a high powered divorce attorney with a very poor view of marriage, moved in next door to Ford, an investigative reporter, for a short period while her new condo was being finished... It was instant hate at their first meeting... Kinda funny!! But, as things unfold and Victoria and Ford team up to help his unwed sister (a single parent) things get decidedly warmer... A fun read that moves quickly and comes to a happy conclusion... I enjoyed it a lot and will look for more of Ms. James books..
