'Sugar & Spice' emphasizes new world issues that women are faced with around the world. There is something for women everywhere who are, or have ever been, made to feel as if they were less than a human being. Each poem outlines a different obstacle that represents how women are demeaned on a daily basis. There is usually a gruesome consequence that satisfyingly demonstrates why it is unacceptable to continue to treat women as if they were not equal members of society. Finally, the central theme is meant to empower women everywhere to take a stand against sexism, sexist remarks and to break down stereotypes. As well as to educate men on what the meaning of equality truly means. While at the same time, it is meant to create a new appreciation for women in order to see that they are complex, intelligent, powerful beings. Not to mention, much more than what society deems them to be.
