In the idyllic Atlanta enclave of Sugar Mills, four women are struggling to keep their marriages alive in the hectic whirl of middle-class suburbia.
Adventurous Jess adores her sportswriter husband, but he’s more likely to fall asleep than respond to her creative attempts at seduction. Delia agreed to an open marriage when she had nothing to lose; but now that the reality of her choice has settled in, she feels a void no direct sales commission can fill. Infertility has left ex-tennis star Carras feeling powerless and frustrated. PTA president Maizy is desperate for acceptance in the Sugar Mills community, and with her health-conscious husband.
Enter Parker, a gorgeous young tennis pro moonlighting as a male escort. Could a little well-orchestrated jealousy cure the marital blues? Will a risky scheme put the spark back in their suburban marriages, or burn everything they’ve worked for to the ground?
Playful women's fiction with relationships at its core, SUGAR STREET is a story about marriage, friendship and the wild hopes that lie beneath quiet desperation.
"[Pullen] systematically dismantles the contentment of her very comfortable characters while also keeping the story bouncing with zippy, involving dialogue and a fine sense of dramatic pacing. A glitzy romp that features suburban wives making unconventional—and haphazardly disastrous—attempts to break out of the safe patterns of their lives."

“Sugar Street is a funny, poignant and sexy novel about how to (and how not to) keep romance alive in a marriage. M.J. Pullen's latest is a gem, one that will make you laugh, think, and reach for your partner.”
- Ann Garvin USA Today Bestselling author of I Like You Just Fine When You’re Not Around
“This book is sugar and spice, and so many things… some of them not so nice. With its story of women willing to do everything to save their marriages, but ultimately saving themselves, M.J. Pullen's SUGAR STREET sucked me in and wouldn't let go until the very last page. If you're looking for a riveting, rollicking, heartwarming story with a core of steel, don't miss this gem!”
- Emily Carpenter, bestselling author of Burying the Honeysuckle Girls and Every Single Secret
“The ladies of SUGAR STREET may give their neighbors something to gossip about… but it’s what’s going on behind the scenes with these four friends that will leave you on a sugar high. A story about midlife, marriage, and the risks we take for love… I couldn’t read this one fast enough!”

Sugar Street is a story of four middle age neighborhood women who have lost the excitement in their marriages. All four are in different stages in their marriage and I am sure every married woman could relate to at least one of these characters. How far would you go to put the honeymoon excitement back in your marriage. This story is fun and a fast read. It shows us that communication in a marriage is key. This is my first book by M.J. Pullen and it will not be my last.
5 Sugary Stars Review by Lisa Late Night Reviewer Up All Night w/ Books Blog Sugar and Spice and everything nice is how the saying goes, but on Sugar Street by M. J. Pullen everything is not so nice. In book one of the Sugar Street series, we get the start of things to come and I can't wait. At first I thought this story to be "long", but I was oh so wrong About a quarter way in and I was hooked taking my nook everywhere with me so that if I had a chance to read I was prepared. There is so much to this book. Four women living in the same community, all at different stages of their lives. All have their own marriage issues. All have secrets. But after time, their marriages have stalled, things are just not the way they use to be: Jess, whose husband travels alot, just wants the personal attention of her husband. Delia who has an open marriage, has come to realize this may not be what she wants anymore. Carras, who is struggling with being powerless to give her husband what he wishes for, a baby. Maizy, who just wants to be accepted by the community and her husband. Parker, the hot tennis pro that is also a male escort. So when these four ladies hire Parker (not to sleep with him) but to help bring that spark back with their husbands, make their men a little jealous, nothing can go wrong? Right? Nobody is going to get hurt, just show the husbands that their wives are still desirable. What do they have to lose?....Everything!!!!! What was great about this novel is the multiple points of view. You get to feel everyone's side of the story, it's not just one sided. All the details, all the different reasons as to why they are doing what they are doing. Hitting the true to life situations and the daily feelings that every woman experiences at one time or another, Ms. Pullen has done an amazing job pulling this story off.
3.5 STARS Sugar Street is a book about four women who are struggling in their marriages and are looking for a way to spice it up their marriages. I think almost everyone who is married goes through struggles, goes through times when their life seems hum-drum boring, especially when children are involved. I was intrigued at how their arrangement would work. It made sense, but there was never a doubt in my mind that something was going to happen to them due to their arrangement. There are so many clues as to where this story was heading, what was going to happen to the four women. Yet, even having an inkling of where MJ Pullen was taking the reader I could not help but keep reading until I found out if my hunch was correct. I won’t give the ending away but I was correct but there were so many twists and turns throughout the story that I doubted myself many times. If you are looking for a crazy, fun, middle age women story then please go get your own copy of Sugar Street ASAP.
An enjoyable story with an intriguing premise, SUGAR STREET is a well-written read that held my interest throughout. The heroines are all women you can imagine being friends with, and their struggles as suburban wives are depicted in a way that makes each character easy to relate to and empathize with. I felt there were some storylines that could have used a bit more resolution, but it appears this book might be the start of a series. Disclosure: I received a free, uncorrected advance copy of this book.
