I approached Instaread’s “Summary, Analysis & Review of Jon Meacham’s Thomas Jefferson” from a different perspective. Having read Meacham’s book (see my review) about four years ago, I used the Instaread Summary as a refresher. It was very helpful. This is organized differently than many Instaread publications. It commences with a six-page summary that is essentially a very brief biography of Thomas Jefferson. It then identifies eleven people important to the work followed by multi-paragraph character analyses of Jefferson, Sally Hemmings and Jefferson’s relationships with John Adams, Alexander Hamilton and some women in his life. It concludes with a quick exposition on author Jon Meachem’s writing style. Having read the Meachem’s tome I found that Instaread’s Summary does an excellent job of extracting the important concepts and presenting them in an easy to comprehend manner. When I looked through the notes I had made as I read the book I found a striking concordance between my assessment of what was important and Instaread’s. I find this summary to be a good preparation, accompaniment, review or standalone for interested in Jon Meacham’s “Thomas Jefferson” or the man himself. I did receive a free copy of this book without an obligation to post a review.
