SUMMARY:

Veteran NY cop, Rick Cooper, heads to his family's lake house after losing a hostage negotiation, resulting in the death a child. He brings only his dog and his saxophone for company. His agenda includes lots of fishing while figuring out an appropriate career change.

Single mom, Kristin McCarthy hears the sound of the saxophone gliding through the night air...a healing sound for her daughter. She begins a search for the person who can play so beautifully. Her high hopes fall, however, when the musician turns out to be a cop. The police fell short when she and Ashley needed them most. But still...if this cop could make a difference...if he can help Ashley...well, Kristin would do anything for her young daughter.

An attractive widow with a damaged kid are the last people Rick needs in his life, and he tries hard to remain aloof. The ladies, however, knock down his barriers simply by being themselves. Fearful but brave, smart but silly. Before long, warm feelings grow between him and Kristin. Feelings that spark potential for a future together.

However, before Kristin allows herself to dream, Rick must prove he's a man she and her daughter can trust. Can they count on him forever?

I could not put this book down, awesome story. It grabbed you from page 1 to the last page. I loved it, hated what happened to Ashley, well written, getting ready to read another book by Linda Barrett. About 180 pages & it was free so read it & enjoy it as much I did. GJRA

Great book. I wish more authors would read this to see how tastefully this author describes a love scene! And the couple was not hopping into bed after the first meeting! Good story line. Will definitely read more by this author.

Child rape and the trama afterwards is a difficult subject. I normally do not like reading books with this subject , however the author did an excellent job writing about all the aspects of the horrible rape. I appreciated even more that all of the events and emotions were clearly written, but more as factual than for gory and wrote about so many different ways to help the victim and her family, writing from both the child's and the adults view points.

Love a good story like this. No need for too much bedroom information in my estimation. So happy the little girl was okay after her traumatic experience.

"Take a sad song and make it better.".... so true that music and 4 legged companions help heal traumatic life events, especially for children. I liked it so much, because it is a romance, but everything centered around the child. Just as it should. What intrigues me is whether the author experienced something like this or dug deeply into research to come up with the nuances that brought the story to almost true life. It is truly a wonderful read and had a good, believable HEA when those in real life don't usually end that way.

Although the subject is a difficult one, the story is well done. While a bit predictable, it deals well with all the emotions and stages of grief that must come after a traumatic experience. It shows how rlthe love of family and even pets can help you get through the difficult process.
