But when one careless mistake brings her future to a screeching halt, Lizzie's only chance at reviving it is to temporarily take over a friend's practice in Jewell Cove. The sleepy Maine coast, a world away from the bustling emergency room Lizzie knows and loves, leaves her feeling more lost than ever-until she meets widowed doctor Joshua Collins, and her heart starts beating a little bit faster...

Lizzie's big-city sensibilities are a brash reminder of the world he's pushed away, but he can't deny that together they've sparked a flame that crackles higher and brighter every day. Maybe love is the best medicine after all ...

"Wonderful romance, packed with family drama, a sexy hero, an incredible old house. You'll fall in love from the very first page."-Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author on The House on Blackberry Hill

Lizzie Howard is an ER doctor who has been asked to take a leave of absence after a missed diagnosis causes the death of an infant. Her best friend, Charlie, has asked her to come to Jewell Cove to cover her maternity leave. Lizzie is a big city gal and Jewell Cove is a small, everyone knows everyone else, kind of place. She cannot see herself staying there any longer than necessary. Or so she thinks until she meets the other doctor in the practice. Joshua Collins is widowed and, bothered by regrets from his past, has come home to find peace. The small town and close family have helped but is it enough? When these two find themselves working together is there a possibility of anything more? A small town and two people who need to find happiness is what this book is all about. If you like small towns, love stories and people helping people, this is a book you won’t put down until you read it cover to cover.

Ah, every time I read another story in the Jewel Cove series set in Maine, it makes me want to pack my bags and head there to spend the summer there. Lizzie and Josh are two different people but whom have one thing in common: their hearts have been terribly broken. This is a gentle and easy going story that makes you smile after you finish reading it. Emotional to the top. Wonderful.

This is a story about Dr. Lizzie Howard. Working too hard and too much, among losing her father to a stroke and her mother fighting Alzheimer's, made an oversight with a patient that cost its life. Now she's on a forced vacation. Lizzy is filling in for her best friend while she's on maternity leave, in a small town family doctors office. Jewell Cove is an ideal seaside town, where everybody knows everybody else's business. She was told that her boss, Dr. Josh Collins, was a retired army doctor and a widow. She wasn't expecting a dropdead gorgeous, early 30s, blonde, tanned, single, sexy as sin doctor. Fantastic small town Romance. I really like that the relationship had real issues and that it wasn't all hearts and flowers. Don't get me wrong, I like the hearts and flowers but it's nice to see a couple go through difficult, real-life issues. Jewell Cove is a little seaside treasure and would be a wonderful place to visit and contemplate the direction of your life, as Lizzie did. Great feel good romance with tons of fantastic characters. Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the story. Donna Alward hasn’t written a book yet that I didn’t like. I thought Josh and Lizzie had great chemistry together. They had similar past hurts and it helped them bond as friends which in turn developed into something more substantial. The best part of the story was the support of the secondary characters. Couples from previous books as well as town members and new characters really complimented Josh and Lizzie well and rounded out the story nicely. If you are looking for a solid contemporary romance, I recommend any of Donna Alward’s books. She does romance well! ***I was gifted an eBook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

I received this book and it was one of those books you couldn't put down. It has everything that someone who wants a romance where she had to take the time to find herself again. Than this is the book to read. She put pressure on herself to be the best like her dad as a doctor. She looses her dad, her mom is not doing well and her friend needs her to come in and work at the clinic while she is on maturity leave. She finds love, a new job and herself. Loved it.

Donna Alward pulled me in to small town life in Jewell Cove and made me feel like I could be right there with all these characters!   I loved the setting and Donna's descriptions of the small town, the water, the treasure island, and the storm (to name a few!) made it easy to picture and feel Jewell Cove.  The place and the characters really made this a romance I enjoyed reading. Lizzie and Josh had a bit of a rough start when they first met, but the chemistry was there regardless.   Both of them are hurting inside, trying to heal and move on...and neither is looking to get involved with anyone.  But working together and living in a small town means they spend a lot of time together.  Lizzie doesn't know what she wants, she can't plan for her future while her past still haunts her.   She decides a summer fling might be just what she needs...but Josh isn't looking for a secret summer fling, no matter how attracted he is to Lizzie.  I liked the pace of their relationship, the realistic bumps they encountered, the struggles they have, and the differences they had.  I liked how neither of them pushed the other, but neither was afraid to say what they thought either.  They have vastly different views of the future...but are they really that different?  I felt the characters were well developed, and the emphasis of the plot is not just on the relationship between Lizzie and Josh, but on the healing both of them must go through to move on in their respective lives.  This carries through the plot well and realistically.   I really like how Donna brings in characters from other Jewell Island books in a way that they are relevant to this story, making Summer on Lover's Island a stand alone book.  There are a lot of great secondary characters in this book who give us glimpses of sides of the main characters we might not see otherwise. I also really like how Donna brought in a local legend in Jewell Cove.  This was an interesting addition to the plot and fit in well with the evolution of Lizzie and Josh's relationship. A small coastal town, a legend and a romance are the perfect makings for a good read.  I'd recommend Summer on Lover's Island to any contemporary romance reader.

* ARC provided by Publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review * I really loved Lizzie and Josh. They're both a little reserved in opening up to people, and yet, when they're with each other, they find it easy to cut the pretense and just be. Because even though they've had different experiences, they still recognize something similar in each other and that draws them to one another, forging a bond despite their intentions. Throughout the story, Lizzie and Josh grow closer, starting as colleagues, moving on to friends, to lovers, and finally loved ones. I loved that their relationship progressed semi-gradually, moving from new friends to lovers, because to me, that really suited these two particular characters and the lives they lived before meeting each other. They've both been disappointed by life and love and they've struggled to rediscover their place in the world and their own identities ever since. It's only through each other that they figure out how to enjoy life again and be who they truly are, which is what makes this such a great read. Summer on Lover's Island is the sweetest kind of love story, one that tugs at the heart strings, with characters who go on a romantic, satisfying, and emotional journey. Readers will no doubt be affected by this book, as its got a lot of heart and soul within its pages. I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, solid love story by an author who consistently makes her story people real, believable, and sympathetic. This one is a keeper, folks.

I was so excited to return to Jewel Cove. Love small town romance. A feel good read, city doctor meets small town doctor. Lizzie on a hiatus from the busy big city ER, with a broken heart, has agreed to help out at the small town clinic for the summer. Her partner is Josh, who lost his wife. Can they mix pleasure with business? Two broken hearts that need mending. Love the small town closeness and everyone knowing everything about everything. I highly recommend this book for an enjoyable summer read. If you have not read the other books in this series, you will after reading this one. I received this book from netgalley for an honest review.

We meet Lizzie Howard at a difficult time of her Life. She is finished having an Affair and is not sure about her career. Josh on the other hand is giving a nice facade to his family and friends after loosing his wife, but nobody really knows how he feels. Both know they should not mix business with pleasure. And especially when in such a small town nothing is hidden the heardache is already programmed. Summer on Lovers' Island is a nice and easy read that promises the reader enjoyable hours. You notice during reading that it is part of a series, but not knowing the other parts when reading this novel is not a problem at all. On the Contrary, I will be checking out the other books of the series soon I think.

Loved it!! Wonderful sexy romance set in a quaint little coastal town. Superb writing as usual from this author. This one will make for a wonderful beach read! Big city doctor, Lizzie Howard, needs a break from her rapidly imploding life. On a forced sabbatical from her ER job, Lizzie has agreed to cover for her friend at a small town clinic while her friend is off on maternity leave. The clinic is owned and operated by Josh Collins who is perfectly happy in his small town, living a very quiet life. After the death of his wife, quiet is exactly what he wants and needs. While Lizzie is expecting Josh to be older and settled, she quickly learns he is anything but that! Sparks start to fly almost immediately but nothing can ever happen. Right?? This is one you definitely want on your must read list. I highly recommend it!
