4++++ stars! I thought this was an excellent book. I love Elin Hilderbrand. For every mother out there this book will tug on your heartstrings. Excellently written, very well-developed characters. You will fall in love with the characters in this book and they will touch your heart. Could not put this book down! I was sad when it was over. She writes about a place she knows well and you can easily picture yourself right there on Nantucket . You truly get lost in this book!

My favorite Elin Hilderbrand book ever. I was unsure at first because I thought the subject matter might be too depressing, and with teenage kids, I didn't need a new source of anxiety. I was delighted to discover that although the plot centers around a tragedy, the book is delightful. Many wonderful layers, great characters. I couldn't put it down. Hilderbrand paints such an amazing picture of Nantucket in all her books, makes me want to travel there. Highly recommend this book. Can't wait for her next one!

Once I had the characters straight & the plot had stopped going back and forth (it was confusing to follow) it was a great book!!!

It reminded me of my own summer vacations at the beach both as a teenager and as a parent. The story was poignant, heartwrenching, and very true to life. It was inspiring and thought provoking.

This was quite simply a lovely book with such real characters that could live anywhere with the same stories. I identified with all of them....even the teenagers & I am far from being one now! I love all of Elin's books I've read so far (4) & can't wait to buy my next one!!!

The characters are easy to relate to. The plot has enough twists to it that you will find hard to put the book down. A good read.

Great Lazy Day Beach Book Beach books should always be easy, fast reads with a great location, great character development and good story lines. You can just smell and taste the salty beach air. It is perfect beach book for a laidback, fast read with plenty of pleasure and heartbreak. SUMMERLAND is perfect for an afternoon at your own favorite beach. It is a heartbreaking, beautiful story of unconditional love, hope, courage, deceit, loss, resiliency, and survival. It keeps you galvanized throughout the story, wanting more and more until the very end. Elin Hilderbrand pens the best beach books.

Very disappointing.  She was "reaching" in this book.  Droning, on and on,  repeating and jumping around.
