Summer's End by Lyn Cote

Can't a woman change her mind?

Small town Steadfast, Wisconsin, has spent the last six years raising funds to help a medical student stay in med school. In return, the student contracted to practice medicine in the local clinic for the next six years. Kirsi Royston is that doctor and now she must tell the town she is leaving at summer's end. Family responsibilities demand she return to California. She promises she'll find a replacement and all will be well. Doug Erickson, M. D. doubts that.

Kirsi is a dedicated doctor and a dutiful child. Her counterpart, known as Dr. Doug, is the same. His father died young and his 80-something grandfather deserves to retire. In the midst of their conflict over Kirsi wanting to break the contract comes the unthinkable. Meth is creeping into the county, poisoning students at the local high school. And the local eccentric, a woman who has bullied the town for years, finds herself needing help. Kirsi wants to provide that--another reason for the townspeople to grumble.

But all is overshadowed by events. A teen nearly dies and then vanishes from the hospital. An anonymous dead body turns up. Summer's End is the story of two very good people, trying to please everyone but themselves. In the midst of a dangerous new situation in town, will they take a moment to discover what God wants for them? And for the town? Will they finally believe that they too have a right to fall in love?

Summer's End by Lyn Cote Northern Intrigue Series Book Three Dr. Kirsi Royston is heading to Steadfast, Wisconsin. Unfortunately, things have changed in her life and so have her commitments. It seems that the small-town has gone wild with her arrival. The quiet area isn't so quiet. And the doctor isn't what she expected either. Talk about being torn between two worlds. Dr. Doug Erickson is awed from the moment he lays eyes on the new doctor. She is gorgeous. When things start happening in the town and around Kirsi—all of Doug's protective instincts go up. The town of Steafast has gone wild. Drugs, shootings, and disappearances. Even some with strong faith are wondering where God is in all of this. Either the occurrences are going to make them stronger—or break them. If they don't find the source—it may even kill them.

Too much prayer. The author had a lot of gall to write a book where there was so much prayer. Some people don't believe in God and could find this book offensive.
