I read this book to my daughters (6 and 8) as a bedtime book and they both really enjoyed it. It's short enough to be read by an early reader and would be especially enjoyed by girls who like fairy stories. There are B&W illustrations on nearly every page. The story is simple with just a little tension. This is the third in a series (Ruby is first I believe) and the premise is that two little girls must find all 7 rainbow fairies and return them to a pot of gold. It's not great literature, but it's sweet fun and a good way to get beginning readers reading on their own.

She pads through the forest, her tail dragging in the dust. She lowers her head, flattening her ears, completely embarassed; ashamed. "How...?" Painful memories surfacing, she stops walking, and sits, deciding to take a break from walking. "Why...?" She felt as helpless as ever. It was horrible enough the first time, but to be forcemated a second time, by a different cat, she felt humiliated, vulnerable, ashamed...Why her? She had never done anything wrong to anyone. She was always so cheery. So happy. Just....why her? "It's all my fault...I should have let someone else take care of him.. Why did I have to fight him?" She sniffles. 'How do I tell dad?' She thinks, hot tears beginning to run down her cheeks, staining the ground. "Not again...not again..." She whispers, closing her eyes. She was there at the wrong place, at the wrong time. If only she had been hunting or something. Another litter? What was she to do? She shakes her head, trying to clear these horrible thoughts, and gets up, turning back towards BloodClan. "I had better get back," she murmurs, beginning to trail back to BloodClan.

These were some of my favorite books as a child.  They were amazing and quick.  They were also entertaining at that age.  Each book is around 80 pages, so it won't take that long to get through.

This brings back memories! I used to read it when I was younger. I'd recomend it to girls from the age of 5-10.
