It shouldn't have worked. I mean here is a kid named Clark Kent after the comic book alter ego of Superman. His whole life he as been picked on. Then one day he finds out he does have superpowers. So what does he do? The answer will surprise you some. Then it not surprising being that it was written by one of todays hottest writers in comics, Kurt Busiuk. This trade collects the sold out four issue limited series by DC Comics. The story was printed under DC''s Elseworld line. The Elseworld line takes familiar heroes and puts them it different times or places to give you a new look at them. Follow the story has Clark Kent learns to live with these new powers. Does he go public? The answer might surprise you. But while coping with these powers he must learn how to live a normal life while being chased by someone who wants to know his secrets. Who are they? And with these people after can he ever have a life of his own? The story starts when he is a teenager learning his new abilites and takes you through his life as an adult. You will see him fall in love and marry(and yes her name is Lois but last name is not Lane)has children. A normal life. As weith the comic book version of Superman you find that it is not his superpowers that make him a hero but the man who he was raised to be. ALso I shouldn't forget the art of Stuart Immonen that brings this story to life. He makes you believe in the world for it is our world that Clark lives in not the inmaginary world that we see in the comics. Overall this is a great story of growth and finding ones place in the world. Clark is the ultimate outsider. But we all feel like that at times. But through Clark we learn that we our never really alone. That we must take the chance to trust someone with our secret self as he does with Lois. LIke I said at first the story may sound corny but it is a tale that will take your breath away.

A Superman story for people who don't like Superman! Loosely based on a one issue comic from 1985 and taking place in the real world, a young boy named Clark Kent discovers he has the powers of Superman. This follows him from about 15 to the end of his life and attempts to answer the question: What would it be like if Superman existed in the real world? He tries to help people, hide from the government, and make a career for himself all while trying to protect his family. The magic is in seeing how he manages to balance all these things at once. We also get to see what happens when someone with the powers of a Superman ages and adjusts to life changes same as everyone else. This is wonderful gem for anyone who loves Superman and even for those who may not even like comics.

It's about time that a writer had the imagination and courage to power down Superman. It makes him a much more interesting character. A writer with imagination can do so much more with him than the current lot; who are left to have him battle aliens and magicians because no one else stands a chance against him.. So booooring! Kudos to Kurt Busiak and thank you.
