Overview

The "Supernatural" Book of Monsters, Spirits, Demons, and Ghouls by Alex Irvine

Twenty-three years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester lost their mother to a demonic supernatural force. Following the tragedy, their father, John, set out to teach his boys everything about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America . . . and how to kill it.

Fans of the blockbuster television phenomenon can rejoice! A one-of-a-kind compilation of all of Sam and Dean's demon-busting knowledge, The Supernatural Book of Monsters, Spirits, Demons, and Ghouls contains illustrations and detailed descriptions that catalogue the more than two dozen otherworldly enemies that most people believe exist only in folklore, superstition, and nightmares: vampires, ghosts, revenants, reapers, and even bloody clowns. You'll find within these pages Sam and Dean's notes, observations, and memories interwoven with sections of John Winchester's invaluable journal, making this book the perfect companion to every thrilling episode—and an essential weapon in the secret war against the hidden creatures of the darkness!

This book was good if your just looking for information on the baddies that the Winchesters hunt on Supernatural. However, it's writing was slightly confusing. It supposed to be written from both brother's perspectives, but the wording flips between second and third person. It uses "we" alot but every story also includes both boy's names often. It would have worked much better if each story was written by one of the boy's, describing the hunt in their own words and in all second person. I do like however that some parts of the stories seem to use Sam's more book smart descriptions and other stories include Dean's smart-aleck comments.

Since I'm a big fan of the show, and I'm interested in the Supernatural, this book was a good tag-along while watching the show. Those who don't watch the show or have no interest in mythology might not enjoy it as much as I did, but it is still very informative. It describes aspects of monsters, and things to look out for. It also tells you how to kill them. This book is great for those with a greay imagination.

As a fan of the show, the book gives great details about the Monsters and other stuff. It does help to watch the Episodes to get a full understanding.

I enjoyed this book. The tie-ins to the show were fun. I am a fan of the show and this novel. It is set up like an encyclopedia format. A fun book to read with fascinating descriptions of many creatures, demons, monsters, etc. It was light reading. The perpetually changing point of view was distracting and hard to follow. The reader could guess which brother was talking in each section. Although a third possibility existed in some parts for an omniscient narrator. This facet was badly written, but everything else was good. I recommend this book to fans of the show and the supernatural. It was interesting and enjoyable. Only the pov was an issue. -AvidReader
