Surrender to Sanctuary by Leah St. James

When FBI Agents Anna Parker and David Owens are partnered to solve a murder at a federal park at the Jersey Shore, they quickly realize it's going to take more than "investigation as usual" to find the killer. They trace the victim's path from a local BDSM club to a dangerous and shadowed world, one that that caters to those who practice a lifestyle of domination and submission, and not just for fun and games.

To find the truth and stop a madman before he can kill again, David and Anna will need to break all the rules. They'll need to pose as Master, and as slave. And despite their growing attraction for each other, they'll need to give the performances of their lives – because discovery means certain death.

SURRENDER TO SANCTUARY is the first of three stories that takes a look at a controversial lifestyle dating back to ancient times, and the people who practice it, people who'll do anything to protect its future.

About the Author

Leah is a worrier, a self-described neurotic who tends to imagine the worst-case scenario in response to brewing troubles. She hasn’t decided if this leaning toward the dark side is what draws her to write edgy, gritty stories, or if the suspenseful mysteries and Gothic romances that filled her childhood bookshelves somehow imprinted their shadows on her psyche. Despite (or maybe because of) this propensity for infusing her fiction with murder and mayhem, she still craves those happily-ever-after endings and the romance of everlasting love.

Surrender to this good read! This is the first Leah St. James book I've read and I was impressed with both her characterization and use of conflict. From their first meeting in their director's office you begin to root for David and Anna. Later in the book, you really worry about their fate and physical safety. Conflict abounds on every page making this one of those hard to put down reads. The writing flowed nicely, and effortlessly, not like some which come off as forced or stilted. This book takes a different angle on BDSM than you generally find, tying it in to a type of religion of sorts, which made it interesting. But the strength of the writing alone would have me picking up another St. James novel. Well done!
