Fans of Abbi Glines will adore Violetta Rand’s novels about strong-willed women who must fight to survive—and the men who love them. Welcome to the Devil’s Den, a Texas strip club where the air is heavy with desire . . . and sometimes dreams come true.
Ever since her mother kicked her out, twenty-year-old Robyn Gonzalez has been working the poles at the Devil’s Den, saving up to finish college and travel the world. With only her wits and her gorgeous body to rely on, Robyn has learned to be independent—fiercely independent. She’s never been tempted to let a man distract her from her dreams . . . until she meets the dead-sexy Garrick Dempsey.
The club’s new head of security, Garrick had walked away from a career as a mechanical engineer to return to his roots in Corpus Christi. He hadn’t planned on getting to know someone like Robyn, with her sinfully sweet combination of vulnerability and strength, at the Devil’s Den. She acts tough, but only because she’s been hurt. Soon Garrick knows he will do anything to win Robyn’s trust. And if that means surrendering to the red-hot chemistry between them, all the better.

I thought it was phenomenal! If you like great stories with interesting plots and great characters, you should read this. It had a stripper as a heroine but it is not about BDSM or anything like that. There is sex but not at the club and not with more than one person, so no worries! There was tear jerking moments, humorous parts, scenes that were scorchingly sexy, action, danger, romance, some great characters and some that I didn't care for like a certain Dr. and Carlos. There were a decent number of pages but I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting staying up until I was finished. I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is my first book by Violetta Rand and I must say that I will definitely be reading more of her books. Surrender, the first book in the Devil's Den series was well-written, had a great storyline and kept me so engrossed in the story I was up late into the night reading it. Violetta Rand has the ability to grab hold of you in the very beginning and doesn't let you go until you've read the final page. She gives readers what they want and so much more. Surrender is a story of love with no limitations. It's a story of how somethings in life are worth fighting for. An unforgettable romance that tells a story of love and pain, fate and circumstances, forgiveness and hope.

3.5 to 4 stars (first half of the book, 3.5 by about 60% in I changed to 4 stars) Robyn’s Gonzalez’s mother kicked her out of the house in a drunken rage when she was a teenager. Lost and heartbroken she struggled to keep from ending up a statistic. She lies about her age and gets a job as a stripper at Devil’s Den. She begins a life of her own and goes to college setting up goals for herself that she intends to achieve. One night she gets herself into a bit of trouble and is saved by a handsome sexy as sin man. Garrick is everything she could ever want in a man, but her past and her sense of abandonment stop her from trusting that he won’t push her away like her own family did. Garrick Dempsey is about to begin a new chapter in his life. He’s decided to leave his job that takes him away from home for months on end and be the head of security of the Devil’s Den strip club. He never planned on meeting someone but when he meets Robyn her sexy sweetness sets off all his desires. He suddenly finds himself wanting to do anything for her, anything to make her happy and keep her safe. Their chemistry is scorching from the moment they set eyes on each other, but can he convince her it's more than that, that he wants her complete surrender. He wants her heart and soul. My Review: I really liked the overall storyline of this book. The stripper trying to put herself through school and meeting a handsome guy who wants to take her away from it all. Their relationship started off a little shaky for me. Not necessarily believable, but as I read and the characters became more developed I realized I wanted to know where this couple would go. Robyn was young, but had gone through a lot of heartbreak because of her parents in her young life. At times she was a bit stupid doing things to put her life in danger, when she had a strong man waiting to help her. But I could get the feeling that she was scared to trust him. She also had a really smart side to her when she was with Garrick that I really connected with making her a more likable character, especially seeing her through his eyes. Garrick comes off as your typical alpha male right off the bat. Though it did surprise me that he seemed okay that she was a stripper. However, once they started working together and he saw her strip he seemed to sing another tune. Which made sense at that point in the story. I thought the character of Macey as Robyn’s best friends was a really good balance to Robyn’s life. Before Macey and Garrick she had no one. Craig the bouncer playboy of the club who chases Robyn for most of the book was a bit irritating at first and a total jerk, but I am sure that’s how the author wanted us to feel about him. I see the next book is about Craig and Marisela Robyn’s sister, I am intrigued by how that story will play out. So, though this is not the best book I have recently read, it kept my interest, had me invested in wanting to know what happened to the characters and has me wanting to know the stories of the other characters. So good job. ¿ RECEIVED AN ARC FROM NETGALLEY IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW

Robyn was fifteen when she was kicked out of the family home and she struggled to survive on the streets, barely getting by. Necessity leads her to beginning stripping to make a living and pay for college. One night Robyn stumbles upon a crime in progress and is rescued by Garrick. The next time she sees Garrick is at the strip club she works at and he is introduced as the new head of security. Garrick is a graduate of MIT and takes on the security job after quitting his lucrative job as an engineer on an oil rig. The attraction between Robyn and Garrick was immediate and when he shows up at The Den, they begin a relationship that faces a lot of resistance from ‘well-meaning’ family and friends. I had mixed feelings when I completed this book. On one hand, the story-line and the characters were interesting. Robyn is a strong and independent young woman but underneath  that is the teenager who is still craving love and acceptance from her parents and a woman who is afraid to open up to love due to the damaging effects of her parent’s rejection of her. Garrick is a dominant, take-charge kind of guy, protective of those dear to his heart, but very overbearing. The story was filled with angst (typical with NA) and obstacles in their quest for their happy ending. One the other hand, there were some things in the story that were not in harmony with the age and mindset of the characters. Some of the dialogue was more suited to an adult romance than a NA romance. Overall, I think that SURRENDER is a good start to the Devil’s Den series. *I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.*

Surrender, A Devil’s Den Novel, is Violetta Rand’s first foray into contemporary new adult romance. I became familiar with Rand’s work from reading her historical Viking romances, the Blind Series. Rand does a consummate job transitioning into the new adult genre, pulling the reader into her story by alternating points of view between the two protagonists, Robyn Gonzalez and Garrick Dempsey. As a stripper at the Devil’s Den, Robyn makes enough money to continue working on her college degrees in history and archeology. Robyn has long-term goals for her future even though she suspects that a happily ever after isn’t in the cards for her. A strong and interesting character, but underneath the snark and strength, Robyn is a vulnerable and lonely young lady, with whom I couldn’t help but fall in love. After being thrown out of the house at fifteen, Robyn has done her best to protect her heart and is reluctant to be close to anyone. This entertaining mix of feistiness and innocence keeps the pages turning, as we see Robyn slowly realize that she is falling in love. Smart and drop dead gorgeous, Garrick has drool-worthy leading man written all over him. Garrick is surprised beyond belief that he is attracted to Robyn, but he loves her combination of independence and kindheartedness. Garrick struggles with his desire for Robyn and his jealousy because of the attention she receives from men at the club. Also, his sister does not approve of Robyn or their relationship. Garrick’s intense feelings for Robyn bring out the alpha male in him in spades. At times, his domineering and protective nature smothers and humiliates Robyn. But, when Garrick realizes what his behavior is doing to Robyn, he sets his sister straight and works to help Robyn reconcile with her family, which finally makes Garrick a perfect leading man. The sexual chemistry between Garrick and Robyn is electrifying, and their bedroom play is enticing and steamy. I really enjoyed Garrick and Robyn’s story, although, at times, I felt the suspenseful subplot within the story was a bit uneven and underdeveloped when paired with the romance, making the conclusion seem rushed. Even with that said, I also adored the secondary characters in this story, and I’m looking forward reading future stories in this series. An engaging premise and entertaining characters make Surrender a compelling start to a new series.

Robyn works at the Devil's Den as a stripper. She has been out on her own since her mother kicked her out at 16. We learn her parents are strong Catholics and want their children to act perfect and Robyn doesn't fit into that, especially with her job, so her relationship is strained with them. Garrick is home from working on an oil rig and takes a job as head of security at the Devil's Den. He meets Robyn before they know who each other are. His relationship with Robyn was fast and didn't flow well. At the end of the book, suddenly she is making up with her felt too hurried and like a way to make the HEA better.

There are so many things to love about this story. It has its issues, but overall I really enjoyed it.  Garrick is a dreamy hero. I don’t think there are many guys who would fight so hard to beat down a woman’s walls. He fights so hard for her that you can’t help but fall in love with him. Garrick has got the sexy geek thing down pat. A graduate of MIT, a loving brother, and a sexy as hell body. It doesn’t hurt that he’s got money too… That’s quite a package! He determined to get through to Robyn, to find his way to her heart, and to protect her. The fact that he is willing to be with her when she gets completely naked and so close to other men is admirable.  Robyn certainly has cause to be somewhat shut down. Her family has caused her copious amounts of pain and to teach her that others will not accept her. To be honest, I think she chooses to turn to stripping to play into the expectations of her family, sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. She tries to play it off as no big deal, but there are many times in the book where it’s clear that on some level she doesn’t believe the lies she tells herself. That bothered me a little, it kept her from being truly genuine to me. Robyn is definitely strong and independent. Her determination to finish school and to be a part of her sister’s life is commendable, however she takes her independence a little too far with Garrick. She refused to accept that he wants to protect her and because of that, she ends up in terrible situations that could have been avoided. Then she needed saving, rather than protected in the first place.  The story is essentially great. It’s interesting, it kept my attention and I wanted to know what would happen in the end. I had some trouble accepting Robyn’s stubborn attitudes and refusal to yield to the love that’s right in front of her. However, the most frustrating aspect of the book for me, was the amount of “almost raped” scenes. It got monotonous.  Overall, I definitely give it 4 stars. The characters are complex and realistic, the story is interesting and fairly compelling, and it has what I look for most romance novels, a great HEA!

I will admit that the premise hit me from the start: a New Adult romance is bound to be angsty and conflicted, full of heat and sexual  tensions with characters who are intriguing. Violetta Rand doesn’t fail to deliver on all of those promises, providing a solid story with plenty for readers to wonder about even as they can’t seem to put the book down.  Robyn was tossed out of her home at 15, so her life isn’t all sunshine and roses. But, she’s taken an interesting turn into the strip club, ‘working’ her way through school.  OK, so I admit it, Robyn felt a bit stereotyped for me, and I’m not entirely sure that I bought into her character.  But it was fun reading and seeing her glaring inconsistencies, expected in a 20 something character – aware that she is in a  job she hates, but carrying her “I don’t judge people” straight on through judgments and snark like Judy on the Bench.  I expected the snark, you would if you were in a situation that you felt untenable and displeasing, but I didn’t once find a compelling reason for her  choice.  If, as she states, she was a ‘good girl’ and not laden with issues that are found in 99.9% of all strippers worldwide, and she is possessed of the brains needed to live her dreams in archaeology, the choice and her comfort level with being naked for cash just doesn’t fit.   Then there is Garrick, another character who’s backstory didn’t quite fit with his position as a bouncer at a strip club.  Degree holders  from MIT have options, lots of them. Bouncing at a club screams ‘none’ to me, or a second job. But we don’t see that. And there is the  trouble I had with Garrick’s very base and almost misogynistic interior monologue in reference to women, Robyn in particular, and his attempts to appear in control and alpha in his dealings with her.  It was a mix that I couldn’t fully buy into or believe, even as I couldn’t stop reading.  I couldn’t stop reading! I was looking for the ‘what next’ and how they’d reconcile two very different people, and would they develop and  grow up any during the journey. Of course, there is attraction and tension: this is a strip club romance after all.  And you could see Rand’s use of description, offhanded comments and alternating points of view to flush out those moments and see the world more clearly in the dimmed off-stage lighting, and under brighter scrutiny.   I may not have bought into the characters as they were presented, but I couldn’t look away. They did learn and grow, deciding to trust in  one another even as everything around them is screaming no, and despite his often smarmy interior descriptions, Garrick was  protective and caring for and about Robyn.  Is it something to build a life on? I’m not sure, but it worked for this story and their ability to find happiness for now.  And it was a compelling and intriguing read that has me curious where the author will go next.  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review:  all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Sexy and on-the-edge-of-your-seat excitement at the Devil's Den! Robyn and Garrick get a rough start, but I think fate had a hand in their HEA. There's even a touch of suspense that held my interest well. Steamy dance scenes, great dialogue, and a fun cast of characters.

One sexy read! Robyn grew up fast, disowned by her family when she was just a kid, she did what she had to do to survive. Robyn is now 20 and a stripper at the Devils Den. After having a bad night she heads for her favorite spot and finds trouble. She is rescued by Garrick a sexy, smart guy that Robyn can’t seem to forget. Then he shows up at the Devils Den. A really liked this book a lot the characters are wonderful and the story kept me entertained throughout. I would give it 5 stars but I did have one issue, it seemed kind of all over the place as to why Robyn was kicked out of the house, her Uncle touched her, her mom’s drinking or her sinful behavior. Was it all and her telling about her Uncle the last straw? I am looking forward to reading more. I received a copy of the book from NetGalley for an honest review.

Alternating POV, NA Erotica. Score: 3.7 SURRENDER (Devil's Den, # 1)  by Violetta Rand January 27, 2015 240 pages, approximately Romance: Erotica, Contemporary, New Adult ** Provided by NetGalley in Exchange for an Honest Review. ** -- -- From the Cover -- --  Fans of Abbi Glines will adore Violetta Rand’s novels about strong-willed women who must fight to survive—and the men who love them. The characters are good, enjoyable even, but seemed a little porous. It has a fairly unique plot, moreso than many I've read lately. Interaction and dialogue was, for the most part, believable. The plot layout had a lot of potential and was great in some aspects, but felt thin and even gaping in some areas. I would have liked to see a more solid and cohesive tie-in between their education and upbringing to their present lives, there was just not a solid enough reflection for me to truly feel connected with the characters or story. It wraps up tidily. There is some minor predictability, but not too much where it would ruin the overall effect. The overall concept was intriguing, but the execution was a little too busy and loose. Above average read, but not quite great.  ---------------- Score: 3.7 Stars: 4 ----------------- Tina J @ Unbound Passion

It isn’t easy for a young woman from a turbulent, abusive background to survive on her own. But Robyn Gonzalez is determined finish college and to write her own destiny; despite what sometimes feel like insurmountable odds. Working the poles at a Texas strip club is not the career little girls fantasize about, but for Robyn it pays the bills and provides the base from which her dreams could come true. When Robyn sees a drug deal gone bad and becomes the target of a powerful drug lord, things go from bad to worse. Enter Garrick Dempsey, the handsome, debonair head of the Devil’s Den Security. A wealthy, alpha-male from the right side of the tracks, who once he sees Robyn wants her more than his next breath. He sees beyond her strong, independent façade and sets his sights on winning her heart and protecting her at all cost. If you want to know more, read the book. You won’t be disappointed. I don’t usually read contemporary or new adult romance, but found the premise of this story intriguing. I am a fan of Violetta Rand’s Viking series and after reading the first chapter of this book, I was hooked. Ms. Rand has a unique way of capturing a reader’s attention and not letting go until the last words are spoken and the final page is turned. Well written and fast paced, Surrender is a hot, sensually charged book, an emotional rollercoaster that will leave you wanting more. With a strong cast of supporting characters waiting in the wings, I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

First I just want to say that this story is an over 18 book to read. This is my first book to read from Violetta. It is kind of different to read about the people in the Devil's Den men's club. Robyn works as a dancer. Spoiler here. She is seen by a drug dealer at a pier and runs into Garrick who saves her. He likes her and she finds he will be working security at the Club. There is a lot of sex in this story. Her parents have ignored her. Her roommate's friend dies of an overdose. The dealer is after her. There are a slew of spoilers in this . If you don't like hot sex skip this book. Give this book a chance. I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.

Hot and sexy chemistry! Beautiful introduction for Violetta Rand, of her new series A Devil's Den, with SURRENDER! It's a real page turner, fun, sexy and a sizzling short story. Lovers of erotic romance, will love it. What happens when two people, with a lot of sex appeal, meet at a strip club? Sparks flare and it's spontaneous combustion! I loved her two main characters Robyn and Garrick. Robyn is an independent young woman, SHE THINKS she doesn't need a man in her life until SHE MEETS tall, blond, and sexy with dark eyes Garrick. Quite a change for author Violetta Rand who usually writes other genres. The storyline is very well written with some very erotic scenes. SURRENDER is a fiction story, but it can also be very realistic. I really loved Surrender, which will be released on January 27, 2015, and surely watch for her next stories SEDUCTION and SIN.

3 - "Texas Boys do it right." Stars. Whilst I liked Surrender I didn’t love it. Garrick and Robyn had an interesting dynamic and I liked the parts of the book when they were together and dealing with their issues in order to build a relationship. Garrick is dominant, possessive and has a definite way with words and actions. Robyn although working in an environment that belies one thing, is actually pretty much the opposite of all the expectations you would have for a woman in her situation, those aspects together made me keep reading. What I found detracted from that were all the side plots and random characters that were thrown at the story. ”I’m glad you’ve found me.” There were a couple of tropes that carried enough weight to them, that should have been explored more, rather than having lots of little things added, for me it just made the story all sorts of scrappy, jumping from this, to that, then to something else, but never really offering the level of depth I was looking for. The writing style is easy to immerse yourself in and I did like the story, plenty (if not too much) of drama, interesting sexy-times and dual POV, I just think it could have done with a little more focus, and less of a cut & dried ending. Surrender is the first book in the Devil’s Den series, its successor Seduction is due, mid-March. This is my first book by this author, and although I am uncertain as to whether I will read any more books from this series, I would be interested to read something with a different setting, tropes and characters by Violetta Rand in the future. I can't even begin to say how horribly awful this is. Inconsistent, trite, implausible, trash. Complete waste of time and money. Don't buy it. Don't even consider it.
