As a practicing Family Physician, I find this book to be very, very good. If you are a person who needs to brush up on basic sciences prior to an examination, this may not be the book for you. But, if your knowledge of basic sciences and medical sciences are moderate or strong, this is an excellent book. I like the chapter approach to specific medical problems and presentations over the tried-and-tired approach to systems-based chapters. The way the book is laid out is reminiscent of the yearly competency examinations we experienced in residency- but, it takes the integrative approach to medicine much more seriously. Evidence-based medicine practitioners will find the book very useful. Those that follow a "cookie-cutter", non-individualized approach to medicine will not. Overall, a great book. I have only found a few typographical errors that will throw you but they are not extremely significant or important. Unless you are an osteopathic physician, this book could be considered a stand-alone study tool for you competency boards.

In my opinion- no nonsense useful information. No outlandish genetic diseases you only see once in your career- rather things you will see in everyday practice. I used it for step 2 and 3 as well as the boards. I love the problem based approach. you can review by subject. The vignettes can also be really entertaining.
