SWEET BURN is the fifth book in the Smoke Jumper series. For more fire fighter romances, check out the Smoke Jumper series! Burning Up (Book 1) Slow Burn (Book 2) Burns So Bad (Book 3) Smoking Hot (Book 4) Sweet Burn (Book 5) Heated (Book 6 – Coming Fall 2014) My Thoughts Every time I pick up one of the books written by Anne Marsh am always expecting an emotionally satisfying as well as heart pounding action with true to life scenes while the characters once again show how dangerous firefighting is as an occupation and how harrowing it is to care for one never knowing whether the blaze they battle could be their last! In Sweet Burn we are once again given a very sexy romance along with some tense moments that manage to blend together to create what proved to be the book in the series that hit very close to home for me in terms of a past personal tragedy that still haunts my nightmares on occasion. There is truth that with age comes wisdom from past mistakes and in realizing that fact Mimi Hart is able to finally allow herself to fall in love with firefighter Mack Johnson. Of course no one said that falling in love would be all sunshine and rainbows, for these two it was more like dodging bullets and narrowly escaping becoming casualties of a wildfire. Despite all the pitfalls and finding themselves more than once butting heads Mack and Mimi are a perfect example of two strong people learning that what the heart wants is hard to deny. With every book in the Smoke Jumper series the threat of danger to the firefighting team members is always a very real part of the story,in Sweet Burn the shocking death of a beloved character brought home that danger full force! Fact and fiction blend but as always when the last page is read you feel like the characters in Strong California are real, almost like members of your own community or family. It was suppose to be a one night stand. At least that's what Mimi wanted - and was used to. Mack had different ideas. He wanted forever. Mimi owns a bar - make that THE bar in a small town and Mack is a smoke jumper who is a friend and helps her out at the bar sometimes. Mimi had always been a bad-girl and messed up a lot. The more she tried to get rid of Mack, the more he dug in his heels. She only ever did the love 'em and leave 'em thing thinking she didn't deserve any more. Mack wanted her to see her true value so he stuck around. I've always liked Anne Marsh's books so I couldn't wait to read Sweet Burn. Even though it had a slow start it was suspenseful, thrilling and VERY hot. I liked the story line and that there were surprising events throughout the book. While I liked Mack being a strong but gentle and compassionate man, I didn't like Mimi much at all. She was so determined to believe that she was bad because of her "wild-child" past that she couldn't see that she wasn't that person any more.
Sweet Burn by Anne Marsh is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited time for reading. This book is well written, the characters are lovable. Feisty Mimi and calm, cool Mack's story is fast paced and loaded with action, humor and excitement. The sizzle in Sweet Burn is about a four alarm. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Anne Marsh in the future. Sweet Burn is part of the When SEALs Come Home series, but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I took a long time to get into this book mainly because I didn't like Mimi. Once I persevered I found the story drew me in and I found myself carried away by it. I think I may have found it easier to get into had I read the other books in the series. However the story was exciting and thrilling and I loved that it Mack trying to change Mimi's stance on relationships. I think will be reading the other books in this series and then may re-read this one just to see if it does make a difference
You people should just read this novel yourselves and write your own review on this novel I really enjoyed reading this novel very much so. ShelleyMA
