About the Author

Rufus Butler Seder is an optical genius whose first significant invention was Lifetiles, glass-walled murals that appear to come to life when the viewer walks by. He’s installed them at the Smithsonian, SeaWorld, Union Station, and other museums, aquariums, train stations, and ocean liners around the world. Next came Scanimation, and his company EyeThink, Inc., a business that produces a line of toys and gifts using technologies he’s invented. Mr. Seder lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

This book is a "must have" for every young child's library. I use it with other books a lot for gifts and everyone raves about it.

I note some of the negative reviews given for this book because it has no text. IT IS A PICTURE BOOK. It says it on the front cover. Anyone who does not know what scanimation is will not really understand the concept. Rufus Butler Seder has created 6 such scanimation books "Waddle", "Gallop", "Swing", "Kick", "Star Wars" and "Wizard of Oz" and this one deals with the "swing" in sport. By opening and shutting the book carefully the picture appears to come to life and shows the movement of swing. A bit like the flicker books you used to get which showed a man or a horse running when you flicked the pages but better. These books are particularly geared for children say 6 months upwards as they are basic, some colourful and all stimulating. The books are well made and contain between 8 and 12 pictures in them. I do not believe the 1 and 2 star reviews are fair as they miss the point of these books. They are not for reading they are for looking at. You will find basic text in the other books in the range with the Star Wars and Wizard of Oz books including actual quotes from the movies. My favourites are Waddle which have basic text such as "Can you leap like a Dolphin?" next to a moving picture of a leaping Dolphin and the Wizard of Oz. Swing is black and white and so is Gallop and Kick. The others are colour. I would definitely recommend these books to anyone with children or to any adult who is still at child at heart.

There is no storyline. The movement in the pictures is neat and would be more suited for an infant.
