It’s been three months since Drothe killed a legend, burned down a portion of the imperial capital, and found himself unexpectedly elevated into the ranks of the criminal elite. As the newest Gray Prince in the underworld, he’s not only gained friends, but also rivals—and some of them aren’t bothered by his newfound title. A prince’s blood, as the saying goes, flows just as red as a beggar’s.

So when another Gray Prince is murdered and all signs point to Drothe as the hand behind the knife, he knows it’s his blood that’s in danger of being spilled. As former allies turn their backs and dark rumors begin to circulate, Drothe is approached by a man who says he can make everything right again. All he wants in exchange is a single favor.

Now Drothe finds himself traveling to the Despotate of Djan, the empire’s long-standing enemy, to search for the friend he betrayed—and the only person who can get him out of this mess. But the grains of sand are running out fast, and even if Drothe can find his friend, he may not be able to persuade him to help in time...

About the Author

Douglas Hulick has been reading fantasy literature for almost as long as he can remember. He suspects this penchant for far-away lands of yore led, in part, to his acquiring a B.A. and M.A. in Medieval History, and likewise to his subsequent study and teaching of European Historical Martial Arts. It most certainly helped result in his authoring several novels, including Among Thieves: A Tale of the Kin.

The headline says it all but this book is awesome. Frankly i wasn't expecting much after the long delay of this book's release (I waited YEARS for this book to get on the market) But it blew me out of the water; its so beliveable how Drothe handles things. I forgive you Douglas Hulick for all frustration you put me through....so when is the next book coming out?

Among Thieves was fun, so I had to buy this one too. Had a ball reading it. Hope there is eventually another one.

I just finished both books in the series and am so happy to find a new talented author. Interesting characters and a well told story. I look forward to reading the next book in the world of the kin.

Great follow up to his first book "Among Thieves". If you like fantasy books with an emphasis on excellent sword fights and just a dash of magic (magic is rare/expensive rather then all encompassing everyone has it).  This book greatly expands on the main characters of the previous book and puts them in an all new setting where Drothe finds himself again with his back to the wall in a do or die situation where he has to use a combination of wit, street tactics and sword work to save his hide. It's a great fast paced read that will draw you in and won't want to put it down until you've finished the last twist. I'm hoping he writes a third so we can learn more about Drothe and his mysterious step father....

I just finished reading the, and I have to say I was very impressed with this follow up. I actually would rate this better than the first, at say four stars. I really enjoyed the story, the twists, the ending, and the flow of the book. I can say that I was never bored, and I truly enjoyed reading it. The Deagans are awesome, the expansion of Drothe's empire is looking good. I highly recommend it. There is no need to read the first one to follow the story, but I would also I recommend reading it was well.

A very captivating read from the start. only thing that kind of let me down was how wolf ultimately died. It seemed like an easy way out instead of honorable fight between wolf and bronze. i also would have liked to kno what was going on with drothes organization it would have been cool if  Hulick would have touched on it by the end. but despite all that it was indeed a very very good read and if you are into science fiction i highly recommend it. the world hulick created is phenomenal.
