I was pleasantly surprised by this book, a little in to it I was pretty sure this was just going to be a "3 out of 5 books" read but the more I read the more hooked I got. Jennings has written a raw, bare-bones look at what one girl's death can do to so many, especially those closet to her. Kate, Anna and Lizzie's mom, is drowning with the pain and grief of losing her child, but so focused on what she has lost she loses sight of all that she still has. Kate's grief is god awful, I actually found myself teary eyed. Jennings just did an absolutely wonderful job with this, her first novel! You might want to keep some tissues handy. What 4 out of 5 Stars means to me:  {A great read. Memorable and highly entertaining. Recommended, but for whatever reason, not the all consuming experience that I feel characterizes a five star book. Maybe one or two minor issues.}

This book is very similar to Reconstructing Amelia, but I enjoyed this less. While Amelia focuses on the "what happened" Swore Secret focuses on the aftermath. The beginning is a little slow, the middle picks up and the ending is rather anticlimactic. And when it was all said and done, all I thought was "that's it?".

I prefer to read to get away from the realities in life and dont honestly remembering the purchase of this book, but with that said, I loved, laughed ,cried and even some suspense. For Lizzie and her parents to come out stronger and her grandmother finally able to admit she needed help is such a hard thing for the majority of our elders and this was written as though we were living it along with the characters. First book in my 40yrs of reading that actually hits home, and it hits hard w/ truth and suspicion that only the book reader is aware that only Hadyn knows the truth A truly excellent book for a first time published, but if you like both sides of process, she has written and not had published on top of those she already has in her head for future stories!!! The writer of this book has a great understanding of people's behavior. When reading the book, it made me think and sometimes cry ...... the story is so lively and I just couldn't stop reading, to see what comes next. The characters in the book, their actions and way of thinking , their feelings, are described in a vivid and wise way that I could easily feel like I closely know them. It was a great reading an I am looking forward the writer's next book.
