Several names being repeated, sometimes at no great intervals, it has been considered essential to the pictorial presentation aimed at, to distinguish those of different nations by different colours.* Practical obstacles have restricted the application of this principle but it is hoped that the result will be to some extent satisfactory that the appearance of the pages, even on a rapid glance, will give some sign of the great historic contests and issues at stake.
