I am not okay.

Fifteen months ago, my life was turned upside down when the plane I was piloting went down. Injured and trapped in the wreckage, I had to watch my fiancée die a painfully slow death, which is something that can really mess with your head.

Since that day, I've had little desire to do much of anything. Except play hockey, that is. Because that is the one place where the bad memories are banished and I can escape my pain.

But off the ice, I'm spiraling out of control. Losing the grip on my life and putting myself and my career in danger. Now, thanks to a string of bad decisions, I've been ordered to complete therapy in order to stay on the team.

The problem? Nora Wayne, my beautiful and somewhat unconventional therapist. I can't buy into the brand of happy clappy crap this woman is feeding me. What could she possibly understand about the type of loss that I've suffered? How does she know anything about finding happiness after losing the most important person in your life?

Turns out, I've got a lot to learn, and she's just the person I need to break through those walls I've erected.

I am not okay.
But for the first time in a long time, I know that I will be.

3.5 stars As I’m sure is the case for all Arizona Vengeance fans, I’ve been looking forward to reading Tacker’s story. And a beautiful story it is. While I felt I knew all the reasons Tacker was closed off, the level of his guilt was different that I had actually expected. It’s not just about him piloting the aircraft that led to his fiancée’s death. Of course, Nora ends up being the perfect person to get him to open up and join the world around him. She’s had her own tragedies and can understand his situation in a way not many can. It also helps Tacker to see that there are worse things that can happen than what happened to him. As Tacker continues to open up, he remembers how much he likes to help others. And as he helps out on Nora’s ranch and they spend time together outside of his therapy sessions, their feelings start to deepen and grow. Which can be problematic for a therapist. The connection Nora and Tacker have is beautiful and actually quite sweet. Their chemistry is great and Nora fits in well with the other hockey girlfriends/wives. Yet, I felt this story wasn’t quite as deep as the others. I can’t lay my finger on any particular reason. There is so much to love about this book. It’s just not quite up to the same level as the previous books in this series. Wonderful, hot, sexy, sweet, fun, and more. So still an extremely good book worth the read. My standards are just super high with this author as she has written many of my favorite books.

4 1/2 STARS! An emotional powerhouse! With the fifth book in her beloved Arizona Vengeance series, Sawyer Bennett brings us the most anticipated book yet in the series ... TACKER. For fans of the series, we've been waiting for his story to unfold since the first moment he showed up on the page. A powerful hunk of a man who can do amazing things on the ice, but utterly broken spiritually. Fifteen months ago a man at the highlight of his hockey career and two weeks away from marrying the woman of his dreams was devastated when an airplane crash took the love of his life from him ... and he was the pilot. Tacker has been coasting by on fumes as he tries to pick up his life and keep moving, but the guilt won't let him. He screws up so badly that he's given the choice ... he can either go to therapy and work through his grief in a healthy way, or his career will virtually be over. He never expects the way Nora is going to change his life. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a heart-wrenching, emotional twist to their romance. The story is powerful and though I feel like one aspect of it all was glossed over a little too much, I was whole-heartedly invested in the story and pleased with how it all played out. Loving this series!

I have been waiting for Tacker's story since the Arizona Vengance series began. Sawyer Bennett does not disappoint. Not only has she carried his story from the beginning of this series, by intricately weaving it throughout each book, so you're dying to know his side of his story, she creates a magnificent stand alone that grabs a hold of your heart and does not let go. This book was perfect. I laughed, I cried, I felt every emotion imaginable. I loved the combustible chemistry and I seriously was sad to see it end. Though, now I'm intrigued as to what will happen next for the Arizona Vengeance. PS - Stephen Dexter and Lucy Rivers are a great addition to Sawyer Bennett's story. I enjoyed the audio version as well.

I can’t believe we are already at book #5 in this series and every book has been brilliant. I just adore a sports romance and Sawyer Bennett knows her hockey men! If you have been following the series, you will know little snippets of Tacker’s story. He was flying a plane that had equipment failure and consequently crashed causing a fatality, Tacker’s fiancé Mary Jane. He has been in a downward spiral for the last 15 months and it’s plain as day from the cover of this novel. It’s hard to think that anything could pull Tacker back from the brink, especially after his car accident but when you meet Nora, you will understand why she works miracles. She is not only the horse whisperer but she has a way with dealing and healing humans as well. She has the gentlest demeanor and compassion that can only come from experience. But don’t mistake her kindest as a her only winning trait, she is also a strong and confident business woman. And as much as I loved her, because I did, I adored Tacker more. I had been waiting impatiently to know more about him and needed to know that he finds happiness again. He may have come across as gruff in the previous books, but Tacker is one of the most loyal and generous men Sawyer has written. Because of his personality, I feel it’s why he is in so much turmoil over MJ’s death. His recovery through therapy is tough and takes him through all the emotions which I felt along with him. The story plays out well. We get to know all the details of what happened that fateful day and we also learn so much about Nora as well. Their joint experiences and loss only strengthens their bond. The way they both connect with each other is a delight and we see the softer side of Tacker appear. There is no epilogue as such in the book, but it ends in a good place. You can sign up for a bonus scene, which I feel is the complete conclusion.

After purposely getting drunk and driving himself into a concrete barrier, Tacker is given an ultimatum. He has to attend counseling, pay a fine, and not drink alcohol or he’s off the team. Not sure he can ever make himself whole again, Tacker waivers on whether to accept the offer. In the end, it’s his teammates and his love of hockey that push him into a decision that will forever change his life. Nora has suffered greatly as a child, teen. But she was adopted by a loving woman who loved her enough to help her overcome the evil she experienced. Nora’s outlook on life was nothing short of remarkable. She lived to help others, while being an exceptional listener. When a broken Tacker shows up at her ranch, she KNOWS she can help him, but only if he’ll let her. Shared experiences finally allow Tacker to “see” things differently. Now it’s up to him to mend broken fences so he can live a happy life. Powerful. Cathartic. Emotional. Moving. Loving. Real. There aren’t enough words to express how Awesomely wonderful this novel is! A truly remarkable story. Sawyer Bennett could not have written Tacker and Nora’s story any more perfectly....except to indulge us with MORE Tacker and Nora! Tacker’s self destructive behavior made me want to reach into my ebook and shake him! He was so broken and devastated that he pushed away the people who meant the most to him. Nora’s ability to SEE Tacker and get him to open up about his feelings, was awe-inspiring. I loved how Nora wasn’t jealous of MJ and her memories. I laughed, cried, and cried some more. I highly recommend this novel! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

4.5 stars- TACKER is the fifth instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult ARIZONA VENGEANCE hockey romance series focusing on the Arizona Vengeance hockey team. This is team captain Tacker Hall, and thirty-two year old, counsellor Nora Wayne’s story line. TACKER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as Tacker’s story slowly develops throughout the series. NOTE: Some of the events in TACKER cross over with, and run parallel to some of the events in book four DAX. Told from dual first person perspectives (Tacker and Nora) TACKER follows the building but forbidden relationship between Arizona Vengeance team captain Tacker Hall, and counsellor Nora Wayne. Fifteen months earlier Tacker Hall’s fiancé was killed in a plane crash, a plane in which Tacker was the pilot. Fast forward to present day wherein Tacker’s life is spiralling out of control, a spiral of which he may never recover. Forced into mandatory counselling or consider himself no longer a member of the team Tacker Hall comes face to face with his future in the guise of Nora Wayne, a counsellor who owns and runs a healing ranch where human and horses learn to get along. What ensues is the building but forbidden relationship between Nora and Tacker as our couple learn to let go of the past, a past that is equally traumatic for our story line heroine. Tacker Hall suffers with the remorse of survivor’s guilt, and the ongoing belief he was responsible for the death of his beloved fiance. Unable to let go, Tacker’s remorse continues to affect his life both on and off of the ice, so much so that Tacker considers ending it all. Meeting Nora Wayne sparks something deep within our story line hero something he hasn’t felt for a very long time. Nora Wayne knows the heart break of survivor’s remorse more so than anyone could have imagined but our heroine uses her experience to empathize with those who are struggling with their own hurt and unimaginable shame. Meeting Tacker Hall pulls Nora out of her comfort zone, allowing her to consider a future with the man with whom she will fall in love. The relationship between Tacker and Nora is one of immediate attraction but Nora was hired by the Arizona Vengeance in an effort to pull Tacker out of his depression otherwise Tacker’s career was on the blocks. Nora knows to cross the line with Tacker could mean professional misconduct but Tacker takes the extra step in an effort to protect Nora from their palpable sexual attraction. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are reintroduced to the teammates, significant and staff of the Arizona Vengeance: Bishop and Brooke, Erik and Blue, Legend and Pepper, Dax and Regan Coach Claude, and team owner Dominik Carlson, newest team member and Tacker’s best friend Aaron Wylde, as well as ranch hand Raul Vargas. The team dynamic is changing with the influx of significant others, a dynamic that brings the teammates closer together. TACKER is a story of heartache, grief, tragedy and recovery; second chances and letting go. The premise is emotional, inviting and engaging; the characters are broken, colorful, energetic but on the mend; the romance is seductive and intimate. TACKER is a raw and gritty look at the power of guilt, and the steps to bring grievers back into the light.

After losing his fiancé in a horrible plane crash, Tacker now faces losing the only thing that has gotten him through, his hockey career. When MJ died he closed himself off from everything. Family and close friends. The only place where there was no pain was on the ice. Now after his drunken car crash he now faces losing that. If he wants to stay on the team he has to agree to seeing a therapist among other things. The first one doesn't really work for him so the team owner puts him in touch with a different type of therapy. Unbeknownst to Tacker Nora herself has suffered great loss. Through their losses a connection begins. Nora brings him out of his dark place and into the light so to speak. Tacker can now see that it is okay to grieve and to let go of the guilt. A bond forms between them that Tacker has never felt before. He will never forget MJ, but with Nora he can go on with life. Tacker was truly an emotional story that will have tears running down. Happy tears, sad tears and everything in between. A story full of love, not only between Nora and Tacker but love and understanding from his hockey family. I couldn't wait for Tacker's story from the first book of the series and once again it is beyond all of my expectations. Another winner from one of the most amazing authors.
