I especially love when best friends become something more, and that's what we find in Anna and Chase. Their relationship is a strong one from the start. They are each other's support system. They need each other. They know they need each other. It wasn't until now that they realize they may need each other in whole other ways than they ever expected, but that's a scary thing. You don't want to lose your best friend because you tried and failed at something more. I loved they're brand of awkward as they ventured into this new territory of their relationship with all their issues and expectations. Take Me, Cowboy by Maisey Yates was kindly provided to me by the publisher through NetGalley for review. The opinions are my own.

Friends-to-lovers with a touch of My Fair Lady--an unbeatable combination! Chase and Anna have been best friends pretty much forever. They know each other's secrets. They understand the dark stuff in each other's past that is so much a part of why they are the way they are. And when Chase needs to get invited to a charity event to schmooze for his business, and Anna needs a date for that same event to win a bet with her brothers, going together seems like the ideal plan--right? Now add in the extra layer--to make it believable, they're going to pretend to be dating in the weeks leading up to the event to guarantee Anna's winning. And to make that believable (and help Anna to get more dates--okay, any--future dates), Chase is going to help Anna to be more girly. Clearly nothing here could possibly backfire. Except that Anna's been in love with Chase since she was fifteen, and her mother's leaving years ago made her believe she's easy to leave and hard to love. And Chase's parents' death has taught him that nothing lasts, so he's made "love 'em and leave 'em" his mantra, becoming a serial dater and never actually developing any of those encounters into relationships. But still...it's a solid plan, yes? What I liked best about this book is how fearless Anna becomes. Once she decides to let down the walls she'd built up over the years, she really went all in, and it was awesome. I almost wanted Chase to continue in his a*shatery, because she clearly deserved better than him. Except that she really did love the big jerk, so it was better that he eventually get his head out of his you-know-what. So far there hasn't been a bad book in this entire series! I can't wait to get to Ace's book ( One Night Charmer ) and really, really hope Chase's brother Sam is getting his own book soon :) Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

For fifteen years, they had been best friends, pressing the feelings of 'more' under a heavy lock and key. But now, because of a bet, because of a business possibility, they are pretending to be more, and somehow realise, they could be everything. I love the friends to lovers themes in the stories, there's always more into the relationship, when the characters have known each other for years, better than anyone else, and now are becoming even more than that. Chase and Anna have been each other's support pillar since high school. They have gone through so much in life, loss, suffering, and growth. They have always had each other, but never in a physical way. And now, that everything is changing, the chance to lose each other puts them into the biggest pressure and test of their relationship. I love how the author uses the words to paint the picture of the events so clear and vivid, you can see it all unfold in your mind. Chase and Anna have something beautiful and rare in their lives, they have a best friend. In each other. But now those feelings are expanding, getting even deeper, getting to be more, and the whole roll-a-coaster they go through, as they struggle with the change in their relationship, as they learn to know each other in a new way, as they see each other with a different eye, and accept the love they have for each other, just as they are, it is a wild ride without a safety belt. The story is emotional, passionate, and poignant. The love scenes are amorous, and filled with feelings. The road they have to take, to find the courage to face their feelings, and freely admit the love they have for each other, is rocky and turbulent, but also tender, loving, and sweet. ~ Four Spoons

Yates has a way of writing emotions that become just as real for the reader as they are for the characters. All the while, she makes romance fun with real banter and off the charts chemistry between her characters. The relationship between the two main characters was both sweet and comical. It bordered on ridiculous at times as they treaded the waters between a lifelong friendship and their newfound escapades, yet at the same time it was always realistic. Anna’s complete and utter vulnerability combined with her rock hard personality is a compelling mix. I love how she is almost the opposite of the female stereotype on the outside, but on the inside is another story. Countered by Chase’s sizzling hot attitude and complete lack of self-restraint, these two come together in surprising ways. And their lifelong friendship just adds to it all. Once again Yates has created a quick, fun read that really packs a punch. It’s a fantastic read as a standalone and a great addition to Copper Ridge.
