I’m sitting in the holding cell with Seth. He’s wearing a standard orange jumpsuit. His face is swollen on one side, the skin around his eye on his good side is mottled purple and green, and his lip is busted. Every last injury is due to a paperwork error that had put him in the general population. The stupid guard took great pleasure in telling me how much a pretty boy like Seth caused a ruckus.

Bile rises and I force it down, taking a deep breath. I can’t imagine the horror he’s been through, or how he must feel right now. Only, while his feelings matter to me, the rest . . . I don’t view him any differently.

He’s still the guy I love. The guy I want to take home with me. The guy I gave my virginity to, and the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with.
“How are you?” I ask and immediately want to smack myself. How do you think he is, Rowan? He’s in prison!

“How do you think I’ve been?” he says, his gaze sharp.

I shrink back a little. “I’m sorry—I didn’t think.” Taking another breath, I try again. “I miss you.” Since he’s been here, my life has gone to crap. And Jase . . . Jase is here at Western Prison, too—serving time for attempted murder.

God, if I could go back and shoot Tony Johnson myself, I would. The two men I love the most are behind bars because neither of them would listen to me.

Neither of them would let me take the fall.

Guilt overwhelms me, so my gaze lowers and I stare at the table, then the floor . . . anywhere but at the man sitting across from me. He doesn’t look at me like he used to. . . . In fact, I think he hates me.

A full five minutes of silence pass before I finally speak again. “Why won’t you talk to me?”

“What do you want me to say? Thanks for making me go down for you and your brother?”

“That’s unfair, Seth. Jase has to serve seven years. That’s a hell of a lot longer than nine months,” I snap and then take a breath. This hasn’t been easy on Seth; he’s not like Jase. I have to remember that.

When Seth was sentenced, it was like the boy I knew faded away. He wouldn’t talk to anyone, including me, afterward. He let the guards handcuff him and lead him away, without looking back.

“But he didn’t get the shit beat out of him, did he, the first night and every night for a week until a paperwork mistake was corrected?” Seth blows out an angry breath. I bite the inside of my cheek so hard that blood spills into my mouth. “He doesn’t have to join the Marines and get sent off to war to reduce his jail sentence, does he?”

“You could always get your lawyer to contest it,” I say softly. “Everyone knows Judge Smith gives creative judgments.” But because he’s been on the bench so long and has accumulated so many friends in high places, no one dares to question him.

“Yeah, right, Rowan. Keep dreaming.”

“I’m only trying to—”

He pounds his fist on the table and I jump. “Quit trying to do anything but listen to me. I got a death sentence from some crackpot judge who wanted to make sure I never pulled something like this again. I’ve never been in trouble in my entire life, Rowan. Who’s going to take care of my grandmother now? You?”

Miserable and helpless, I nod as tears spring to my eyes. “Yes. I’ll take care of her. I’m already living with her. Miss Myrtle took me in after . . . everything,” I say quietly.

“Good.” The fierce look on his face fades a little, and I ache to take him in my arms. I want to make him feel better. I want to assure him that everything will be okay. “Promise me you’ll take care of her,” he says.

I reach out, grab his hand, and squeeze it tight, but it’s entirely one-sided. “I promise. I swear I’ll take care of her, Seth.”

Finally, finally, his hands cover mine as he lifts them to his lips. He breathes in, eyes closing. “Promise me one more thing, sweetheart.”

“Anything.” I mean it. I’ll do anything for him if it means he’ll keep loving me. If it means he’ll stop being this guy I don’t recognize.

His eyes open and my breath catches. They’re like obsidian. Hard and cold. “Don’t ever come see me again.”

A cry escapes my mouth before I can stop it while the rest of me is frozen and hard, like a statue. Only on the inside, I’m crumbling. I’m dying.

“Please don’t be this way,” I whisper brokenly. “Please. I’ve already lost Jase. I can’t lose you, too.”

He rises to his feet. “You already have.”

This is book one in the Take the Fall series and I'm hooked! Seth O'Connor is flawed and beautiful. After EVERYTHING, all Rowan wants is her man but she learned early on that you don't always get what you want and things don't always make sense. It feels like I'm watching everything in this story unfold before my very eyes. Their struggles are real. Their stubbornness is real and ultimately, their love is real. At many times during the unfolding of their lives, I wanted to shake some sense into them. This is my first book by Marquita Valentine and I loved it! The characters are fantastic and the story line was great. I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

I loved Take the Fall, by Marquita Valentine, the first book in a new series. This book exemplifies Valentine’s creativity, sexy and sensitive scenes, as well as her outstanding writing ability. This book stars teenage lovers Seth O’Connor and Rowan Simmons. At age 17, Seth went to jail for a crime he had nothing to do with. He took the fall to protect Rowan, the girl he loved. However, the cruel realities of prison hardened him and he pushes Rowan away. After doing his time, Seth enlists in the Marines as ordered by his judge. There he stays until his grandmother’s funeral causes him to return home and face Rowan again. He learns that Rowan has become her own woman, taking over his grandmother’s business. Seth still wants Rowan but he has to overcome all of the hurt he caused her and repair her heart before they can move on. Rowan swore that no man would ever hurt her again but old feelings toward Seth arise now that he’s back in town. She is unsure that she can handle taking him back and reopening those raw wounds. Can Seth and Rowan find the trust and love they once had? This is a must read for anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance. I love books written by Marquita Valentine. Now I can’t wait to read her next book in the series, When We Fall.

I'm a total sucker for a second chance story. It's one of my favorite tropes. I suspected, based on the blurb alone, that I would really enjoy this book. I was right. I found myself easily sucked into it and I even got emotional during a few parts. (Sometimes I just relate way too closely to characters in the books I read. This was one of those times.) But, it was that connection which gave me more insight to Rowan and made me more understanding of the way she was pushing Seth away, while pulling him closer at the same time. I get that. Boy, do I get it. Sometimes it isn't easy to forget how hurt you were by someone else's choices in the past. But it's also not easy to push aside the feelings you have for that person. As much as I wanted to shout at both Seth and Rowan while I was reading the book, I also understood why they were acting as they did. I really liked both Seth and Rowan. They were both strong (if stubborn) characters. Not only were they coming to terms with some changes in their lives, but they found themselves face-to-face again for the first time in years and even if I didn't think they handled it all in the best way at times, I felt for and liked both of them. They had wicked chemistry, but there was so much more to their story than just that. The sexy times were smokin' hot, but it was the undercurrent of strong feelings that made the story for me. Their connection was the real deal, no matter how hard they fought it. I've been a big fan of Marquita's Boys of the South series since I picked up the first one a couple years ago. I was anxious to see what she would give us with the Take the Fall series and, I have to say, I love it. As soon as I finished this book, I jumped right into When We Fall because... how could I not? Jase and Piper had me both intrigued and nervous. I can't wait to see what happens next. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This books starts out with a great prologue. It pulls you right into the story. This is a story about second chances. Seth and Rowan have known each since Rowan punched him in the stomach on the playground. At 16, Rowan and Seth begin a romantic relationship. With stars in their eyes, they think they will be together forever. However one night changes all their plans. After a drag race things get out of hand. Someone is shot and Seth and Jase (Rowan’s brother) are blamed. After jail, Seth joins the Marines. He returns for his grandmother’s funeral. After he runs into Rowan, he realizes he still has strong feeling for her. But he knows he hurt her by pushing her away when he went to jail. Can he make it up to her? There was some good, funny dialogue back and forth between the two. They are both are strong individuals and speak their mind. The letters that Seth wrote at the end gave you that awe moment. I am looking forward to Jase and Piper’s story next.

TAKE THE FALL got me thinking about choices and do-overs. Everyone gets the first but very few get the second and this story highlights that. The only people Rowan Simmons could count on were her brother, Jase and her high school sweetheart Seth O’Connor, until the night when everything went wrong seven years ago. During an illegal-street race, a bet gone bad and some foolish choices landed Seth in police custody alongside Jase and ultimately both of them ended up behind bars and Rowan was left all alone. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on your perspective), Seth got a lesser jail term on the condition that he enlisted in the Marines. The consequences of his decision caused him to completely cut off contact with Rowan. His time away gave him a chance to re-evaluate his decisions and his mistakes and he's back to claim his girl, but will his love for her be enough to right all his wrongs? How can he convince Rowan to give him a second chance? Rowan lost everything that long ago night and when Seth rejected her, she swore to never give her heart to any man again. After seven years away with no contact, not even replies to all her letters to him, he's back for his grandmother's funeral and she plans to keep her interactions with him strictly business. What Rowan does not expect is Seth's determination to get her back. Will she be able to withstand the full force of his charm? Rowan's reluctance to open herself up to Seth again is perfectly understandable. He's already hurt her once and it would be foolish for her to give him a second chance. Seth is willing to wait for Rowan for as long as it takes and boy does he work for that second chance. There were a few times I became really tired of Rowan and her behavior but thankfully she realized that passing up a second chance with the man that holds her heart is not something she's willing to do so, even though she gives him a tough time, she can't resist him. Seth was a very sweet guy and my favorite part of the book is that he kept all her letters to him in his bag and I also loved all his responses to all them. "You're my compass and all directions lead me straight to where I'm supposed to be. With you." TAKE THE FALL was a very enjoyable read and I look forward to Jase's story because it promises to be even more interesting. 5 star The story has laughs, pain, secrets, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. This is Rowan and Seth’s story. Rowan and Seth were in love but when he went away for a crime he didn’t commit he pushed her away. She wrote him all the time while he was in jail but he never read the letters. Now years later he is home to attend his grandmother’s funeral. Rowan has no one after both Seth and her brother went away to jail. She turned to Seth’s grandmother. Now years later she is grieving that woman. She knows Seth is in town but he pushed her away and she can’t count on him to stay. Everyone leaves her so he would never come back for her and stay right? Seth is determined to prove to Rowan he is back for her and will stay but is he fighting a losing battle? Can she really resist him? He knows he let her down years ago but he will do anything to prove he is back for her. Will he ever be able to prove himself or is over him? I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book, can’t wait for the next story in this series.

MUST READ!!!! over all the story is a romance with pain and lost and long time friendships lost but found again. Love story like nothing before. I really enjoyed the past and present story of true love finding each other again after so much hurt and pain. The trust that the main characters had to instill in each other was earth shattering. Once I started reading this novel I couldn't stop for the life of me, I loved every single word and page. Not my first time reading from this author but there are no words for what I really think about this amazing story. This author once again has won me over and over. I wanted more by teh time I reached the end of the story I couldn't believe how soon it was over. I craved more so bad. ***I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com ***

Rowan, Seth and Jase were teenagers, doing what teens do: never fully anticipating or expecting serious consequences from a single stupid decision. A street race that turned into a fight, with both Jesse and Seth going to jail broke up this little triumvirate and the years have taken a toll on everyone. Seth and Rowan really loved one another, they still have strong feelings (what is hate but the inability to let go of strong feelings that were damaged by actions or words or absence?) for one another. Rowan. Oh how I would have loved to kick her about a few dozen no, make that hundreds of times. She’s got a hard edge for someone who had her life saved by the boys who took the fall – and she had the support of Seth’s grandmother and her best friend. But the anger and vehemence and pushing limits to have someone “prove’ their reliability was beyond the pale. After seven years, she should have matured enough to realize that Jase and Seth taking responsibility and keeping her out of it was saving her, and done from love. But no… she wants to poke and prod and push, until it’s convenient for her. Passive aggressive minx… the worst people on the planet. Jase: he tries, really he did. Tries to smarten up his sister and get her to see sense. It doesn’t always work, but he completely understands the importance of Seth’s standing up and taking responsibility, and just how much that saved him from a far worse fate. His story will be interesting, because he is trying to assume an adult attitude unlike his sister’s toddler-stomp, and the time wasn’t kind to him either. Seth: when he went away – he didn’t want Rowan fixating, so he shut her out. Considering his feelings for her, and his young age, that was an incredibly adult decision, and caused him lots of pain. After jail his recruitment into the Marines was ‘assigned’, and the time away to learn and grow was good for him. And he thought that Rowan was still better off without him. But now, he wants her back, and will actually do everything, including jump through her ridiculous hoops to make it happen. Alternating between heartfelt openness and heat-inducing don’t talk just act moments the forward movement in the readjusting of the relationship between Rowan and Seth, with frequent roadblocks thrown up by Rowan. Intriguing, frustrating and wholly emotional this story keeps you unsettled and unsure until the last page. An interesting start to a series that promises great storytelling with, hopefully, a less bumpy path to resolution. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4.5 stars I love Maruita Valentines Boys of the South series and when I found out she was writing a spin-off from that, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Let me just say that I was absolutely delighted with Take the Fall. It is a short book that packs a punch and it captivated me from beginning to end. I loved both Rowan and Seth. There story is tragic, but they are given a second chance at love, that is if they can get past all the hurt that resulted from what happened 7 years prior. Seth is no longer the 17-year-old angry boy Rowan knew. In fact, he has turned into quite the man, causing all those feelings Rowan wants to ignore to come back to the surface big-time. Seth just wants to make things right, and he wants Rowan, determined to prove himself to her. There romance is hot and sexy, and the story itself is very good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Take the fall is a great beginning to this new series by Marquita Valentine and I can't wait to read the next installment in the series. You'll definitely want to check this one out.

My Thoughts: After reading the beginning of the story, I realized exactly how intense the story would be. I had read the synopsis, but it didn't really hit me until I started reading. Then I knew that this one would toy with my feels a bit. Rowan and Seth date as teenagers, but then after a street race gone wrong, Seth and Rowan's brother, Jase, end up in jail. Seth and Rowan have basically no contact for all these years, so when he comes back, there are all sorts of powerful emotions coming into play. They can't deny their passionate chemistry from all those years before, but everything has changed, they've changed. Some of the attitude that Seth has makes me want to smack him, and yet you can't hate him forever because you know how he feels deep down for her. And then you reach the end, and there's no way you're not a blubbery mess of tears. Take the Fall is one of those books where you're angry, swooning, and crying all at once. You can feel from the beginning that Seth and Rowan's love story can go the distance if only they can put away the past mistakes and focus on the present. But you go on the journey with them to reach that point and you're overtaken with the feels, especially when it comes to those letters. MY HEART. And now I'm itching to read Piper and Jase's story in When We Fall. My Rating: Very Good

The prologue of this book broke my heart! It was intense and I was so sad for Seth, Rowan (love than name!), and her brother Jase. However, don’t let it keep you from reading on! I didn’t think I would love this book as much as I did. This story is focused on Seth and Rowan, but we get to know Piper and Jase as well, and I really enjoyed that. The author has created very unique personalities in all the characters, and yet they don’t overshadow each other. Rowan is a strong independent woman and she has truly built a solid life for herself. Seth’s rejection was brutal and a weaker person would have let it shatter her. I did start to get just a little frustrated with how long she fought forgiving Seth, however it’s fairly understandable. I just felt that he had truly proven himself and toward the end she was being a little petty. Despite that, I loved her as a person, I would want to be her friend if I met her in real life. She’s got a great sense of humor, a hard work ethic, and she loves whit her whole heart. Seth is just smoking, seriously. That man and his dirty mouth had me reaching for the ice cubes. He’s strong, determined, a helicopter crew chief in the marines (yum), and he’s got that alpha streak that will make you swoon. It’s so clear when you meet him in chapter one that he has truly grown up and left the young boy he was behind. He’s owned up to his mistakes and is ready to move on and make them right. Looking at the situation from his perspective gives the reader a clearer understanding of why he lashed out like he did, and I’m not so sure many of us wouldn’t have done the same thing at that age. I get the feeling that if this book had not been in dual POV, I might not have fallen as hard for Seth. The chemistry between these two is explosive and the steamy scenes are HOT!! The banter in their heads was funny, as well as their witty back and forth with each other. The plot is all about the romance between these two and it’s all it needs. There is enough background to fill in the holes, but their relationship was captivating and I was turning every page in anticipation of what would happen next. I can’t wait for the next book in the story and this one is definitely on my re-read list! 5 Stars!

Seth O'Connor and Rowan Simmons were high school sweethearts. After a night of racing and fun, Seth and Rowan's brother go to jail. Things change for everyone after this happens. Seth gets out after serving his 9 months and goes into the military. He does not see Rowan again for about 7 years. He shuts her out of his life and then regrets come later on. She has moved on and now works and lives with his grandmother. Coming home after his grandmother dies, Seth realizes he has things to fix and change. Rowan cannot seem to forgive his leaving her when she needed him the most. It was not so much that he became a Marine, as it is he did not want any contact with her. Once he is back home they have much to go over. The will, the business, the house, and yes, even their feelings. They are still drawn to one another. The chemistry is as HOT as if it was yesterday. Rowan is afraid she will get hurt. Last time he cut her off it devastated her. If he does it again it could literally kill her. She just cannot stay away. He is like a drug. Can love really help them? Since it never went away... ***This ARC copy was given free from Netgalley.com and its publisher, for review purposes. Truly Emotional, Romantic Read that keeps you until the very end. Fantastic Start to new series! ***A gifted copy was provided by NETGALLEY for an honest review**** This is a wonderful book and I can’t wait for more in this series to come out. Seth and Rowan were two teenagers madly in love. Seth wanted to protect someone close to Rowan so he took the rap and ended up going to jail for 9 months for a crime he didn’t commit and then ordered to enlist the Marines upon his release. He blamed Rowan and her older brother Jase (who also went away to jail) for this downward twist in his life. The tragedy is, Rowen lost both Jase and Seth and Seth shuts Rowan out, and doesn't speak to her again after he leaves for the Marines. Here we are 7 years later the death of his grandmother forces him back to his hometown and he has to face Rowan once again. Seth is a hunky Marine and he has finally come to the realization he completely messed up and blamed the wrong person for the mistakes he made. Seth wants to get his girl back and he wants to make up for all he did wrong to her but knows this will be a fight starting out but this is the girl he loved and will ever love and he won’t give up. Rowen was completely devastated when Seth left her, in face pushed her away as if she was nothing to him. The her brother went to jail leaving her with practically no one but Piper , her friend and Seth’s grandmother for support. When all she really wanted was her true love and her brother in her life. When Seth comes back 7 years later, and suddenly wants her back, Rowan has had enough of people abandoning her and Rowan is determined to not let him back in to hurt her again. This is a heartbreaking story of love, loss, redemption, true love and forgiveness. I cried several times and was so glad at the emotional twists and turns this story look. The author wrote a truly great story which shows love doesn’t go away, doesn’t fade , it stays and will always endure . I cannot wait for book two which is about Jase and Piper... Rowan's brother and her best friend. My rating: 4.5 stars ****

I had a chance to read this through Netgalley. This is a second chance love story. Both Rowan and Seth were in love when they were teenagers. One night, everything changes, and both feel hurt and betrayed. Time passes, and neither has moved on. Seth puts a lot of effort in to getting Rowan to admit to her true feelings for him. I was not sure about the physical side of their relationship being as strong as it was when Rowan was so cold to Seth the rest of the time for so long. There was a moment that actually made me cry at which time the truth of their feelings for each other finally broke through. Having met some real characters in this story, I would enjoy reading about their HEAs.

Wow this was such an emotional read. I loved that this story was from both their POV. This story was a gripping, heartbreaking and riveting roller coaster of emotions. Raw, passionate and intense. Fantastic read that had me captivated the whole time. Seth and Rowan are teenagers in love, when a night of street racing ends in tragedy. But when Seth takes the fall for something he didn't do, and ends up in jail, he also ends up blaming Rowan. Refusing to see her while he is in jail and then leaving her behind when his court enforced enlistment into the marines goes into effect. Tragedy brings Seth home seven long years later, he knows he was wrong to blame Rowan and he wants to make it up to her. Seth has loved Rowan since she punched him in the stomach in kindergarten, always has and always will love her. Rowan has lost everyone in her life that has mattered. Losing Seth and her brother at the same time left her all alone seven years ago and she has fought for everything she has achieved since then. So when Seth shows up Rowan is not going to make it easy for him. Although there are some seriously sexy, passionate, sex scene between them The twists and turns make it all the more interesting. Will they find their way to a HEA? Will Seth end up leaving her again? You will have to read this Amazing, captivating story to find out. Highly recommended! Received a copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars This book was about Seth and Rowan. They were a couple as teens but a bad situation caused Seth to go to jail and required him to join the Marines for which he blamed Rowan. Seven years later he is back due to the death of his grandmother and ready to get Rowan back as his girl. Rowan has been left by everyone she loves. Her parents are gone, her brother is in jail, she lost the guy she loves and now that he is back to make things right Rowan is feeling its to late to go back to how it was. I liked this story. I am a sucker for second chance romance books and this one didn't disappoint. I liked how Seth was willing to put it all out there for Rowan. Rowan kind of annoyed me because she just wasn't willing to let the past go. Seth made a mistake but he was a kid and I understand his anger even though it was misguided. I liked that Seth didn't take no for an answer and was willing to let the relationship grow again. They really did love each other but pride was standing in the way of them being together. Good book for me. Copy provided for review

I really enjoyed this first book in Marquita Valentine's new series. She writes characters that readers can relate to. Some are wounded, misguided, not understood and difficult to like let alone love, but some how she pulls it all together and her readers get to read a couple's HEA. Rowan and Seth were high school sweethearts who don't seem to have many worries except what their plans might be for a date on Friday night until circumstances beyond their control change everything. Seth is back after being gone seven years with no contact with Rowan for most of that time. He ignored her letters and when he did visit his grandmother he only did it when he was able to avoid Rowan. Now he is back and that is only because his grandmother has passed away and he needs to say his goodbyes and handle her estate. Rowan can't believe he actually showed up. He has done everything that he possibly could to avoid her for the last seven years, but here he is. She can't seem to forgive him for turning his back on her. She didn't ask him to take the fall, but he did and in doing so she is positive that he resents her and her brother. All that doesn't change the fact that she still loves him and can't seem to move on. Seth and Rowan gravitate to one another just like it were old times. The only difference is that he had no choice in going away and he had done everything possible to make her forget him. She didn't, so now he isn't leaving until he makes Rowan his once again. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series. I was given an ARC for an honest review. All conclusions are mine and mine alone. Lori P

I've never read anything by this Marquita Valentine and I loved this book!! It was well written and I was captivated from the very beginning! Seth, Rowan and Jase went through so much as teens! Seth and Jase are in jail, Rowan feels like everyone leaves her. She writes to Seth and even though he saves her letters, he doesn't read them. Then when he gets out of jail, his grandma's funeral puts him with Rowan again. When you truly love someone you will go to the end of the earth to try and make it work and that's exactly what Seth did!

Seth and Rowan had been in love forever, they started dating when they were 16, with the blessings from Seth’s best friend and Rowan’s brother, Jase. However, their love story suddenly took a curve when Seth and Jase entered a drag race that went wrong. Soon, Seth found himself in prison and Rowan was all alone with her best friend Piper and Seth’s grandmother. Perhaps it was the harsh reality of prison and his future was bleak that made him pushed Rowan away, and break her heart in the process. He will be released, but was mandated to join the Marines as part of his punishment. Seven years later, he was back. He finally realized how wrong he was for pushing the only girl he loved away, and he was willing to do anything and everything to win her back. But Rowan has something else in mind. The pain he caused her heart to harden and she already built some walls to protect her heart from breaking again. She had enough of people leaving her and she was determined not to fall in love with the boy who broke her heart. Seth may have hurt Rowan in pushing her away, but Rowan should also understand Seth was in a difficult situation. Nevertheless, both of them were young when they were faced with the circumstances, and it was understandable that perhaps most of their choices were brought about by emotions they were feeling at that time. I always loved second chance romance, and Take The Fall was not an exception. The characters are easily likable, although there are times you’d begged you have enough patience of their antics and just cut the chase. Would they have their second chance, or would they let the pain from their past take it away? Nevertheless, his letter at the end took my breath away. It was enough to make me swoon. I was just crossing my fingers it was enough to make Rowan realize that he was in for the long haul. Take the Fall in an excellent book to start this new series by Marquita Valentine. It’s the perfect combination of romance, emotions, and steam that will have you hooked in no time. I can’t wait for Jase and Piper’s story!

I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review, and here it is. Wow! This was quite an emotional ride, and I'm giving it 4.5 stars. This novel hooked me from page 1 and I read it non-stop until the end. Seth and Rowan have known each other since kindergarten, and by the time she's 16, they are in love. One bad night after a street race, it all falls apart, as Seth and Rowan's older brother, Jase, end up in jail. The only way Seth gets a lighter sentence is by joining the Marines. While doing his stint in jail, Seth pushes Rowan away, doesn't read all the letters she sends him, and it's not until Seth's grandmother dies, 7 years later, that the two meet up again, and then the sparks begin to fly. All in all, this was a terrific read by an author who was new to me. The only downside was that Rowan's continued snarkiness as Seth tries to win her back, made her a tad too annoying. Otherwise, I'm very much looking forward to reading the next novel in this series.
