I picked up this book as part of another retailer's First Reads monthly picks and was quite happy with the story. It was my first Crime Fiction / Action Adventure and did not disappoint. For a debut novel, Joseph Reid wrote a roller-coaster of a story about a former air marshal escorting a young, pop star from one airport to the next. Chaos erupts as Seth is about to turn over the sixteen-year-old girl to the FBI and Seth takes action. His dedication to making sure Max Magic is safe before he relinquishes her over to the FBI and her father fuels the fire for those after her. The mystery of why and who is after Max had me flipping through this book eager to learn the truth; and boy was I surprised when I reached the end!
Takeoff is a debut novel for author Joseph Reid and I think it turned out pretty good for a first novel. Former Air Marshall Seth Walker became publicly known so could no longer travel incognito hence the change to investigator. As his first assignment back on the job he is to escort/protect teen pop star Max Magic from one group of FBI agents on the east coast to another group on the west coast. He is assured repeatedly this will be an easy job. When Seth and Max exit the airport the hail storm of bullets injures/kills some of the waiting FBI agents. Seth takes Max and runs. After speaking with his boss he takes Max to his home to figure out their next step. The book takes you through the adventures they encounter trying to get Max to safety. I loved that Seth was a pretty regular guy and didn't just immediately know who was out kill Max. He was a true hero that he didn't just hand her off to the FBI and say it wasn't his problem. Max seemed like a pretty typical teen in the fact that she was all over the place emotionally. I enjoyed reading this thriller and hope to see more from this author. Thank you to Goodreads and the publisher for sharing this book with me.
