Calgary Writers Montparnasse is modeled after the 1920s group of famous writers—the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Gertrude Stein, to name but a few—who frequented the cafes in the Montparnasse District of Paris, France. Like the Lost Generation of old, our humble 21st Century band of misfits have a need to scribe, and imbibe.
Tales from the 2nd Lost Generation is a collection of short stories born from our meetings, flash fiction gems that stem from bi-weekly prompts that each member can do with as they will, to spin a tale using only their wild imagination. This exercise moves us away from our myopic obsession with our longer works and forces the use of creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship to weave tales normally out of our comfort zone. In flexing our mental muscles, each of us creates an unrehearsed moment in time, and the effort more develops our craft.
These are the words of each member. This book is a literary time capsule of where our skill lies now.
We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed—?—writing them.
