A delicious start to a brand new series!!!!! I imagine it’s not easy for an author to find a new twist on a long standing genre, but Sara Humphreys has scored a hit! This book filled with action, passion and dark suspense has launched an enthralling series. Add to the mix mystery, desire and a perilous menace, and you have a story that will lure you in and hold you captive until the very last page. With an incredible cast of interesting characters and assorted personalities, Tall, Dark and Vampire provides a stimulating plot and promises to be the start of an addictive new series! Thank you Ms Humphreys, I do love my Vampires!!!!

Reviewed by Nadene R. Book provided by NetGalley for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book When I first chose this book, I had no idea what to expect as this was my first time reading Sara Humphrey’s work. As I began reading I knew this was going to be a story that I was going to enjoy and I was right. It drew me in from the very first page and I had a hard time putting it down. Tall, Dark and Vampire is a paranormal read that combines romance, action, mystery and suspense. This was a good read for me and I do believe that readers of paranormal romance would enjoy this story. It’s the first book in the Dead in the City series. I loved Ms. Humphrey’s portrayal of vampires which is somewhat different from the typical vampire reads that I have come across. There were vampires that were part demon and part angel. Vampires had their own government and newly turned vampires had to be registered. There was also the rule as to the amount of persons that a vampire could turn. The characters were amazing. My favorite character is Olivia, who is the female lead in this story. She was a very self-reliant individual who had great personality and was not afraid to show her softer side. She cared deeply for the persons whom she took under her wing and was willing to do anything to protect them. She is a 300 year old vampire and the owner of a popular human night club. She was also the leader of a coven of vampires. Olivia had experienced loss from an early age when she witnessed the murder of the love of her life. That very same night she was turned into a vampire. Since then she has lived a lonely life, not getting close to anyone. She found herself linked to her dead lover in her dreams which was rather strange as it was impossible for vampires to dream. Unexpected and catastrophic events led police detective Doug Paxton to Olivia’s doorstep. Olivia received a shock when she noticed that he had an uncanny resemblance to her dead lover. Doug was equally shocked as he recognized her as the woman he had been dreaming about. How could this be? To find out you will have to read the story for yourself and when you do you may likely experience a OMG, how is this even possible moment, like I did. This is a beautiful story of how love can transcend time. Tall, Dark and Vampire is fast paced, sizzling, on the edge of your seat read with non-stop action. It had a lot of twists and turns and it had me turning the pages as I had to know what was coming next. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this title and I am looking forward to the other books in the series.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson: *eARC received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Tall, Dark and Vampire, the debut book of Sara's new DEAD IN THE CITY series, was a fun vampire romance with some great characters, a sweet love affair, and just enough action to keep things interesting! Our heroine, Olivia, was first introduced in book #4 of Sara's AMOVEO LEGEND series. She's a very strong female lead - nightclub owner, head of the coven, ex-sentry - and yet has this incredible hidden weakness, her desire to be loved, which makes her just vulnerable enough to be 'real'.  Doug, our hero, is a no-nonsense detective working on a mass murder case, but when he comes face to face with the woman of his dreams (literally), his world is forever shaken and nothing remains as it was. The couple had a tense love affair, with neither side wanting to give much and adapt to the way things needed to be, but it made for some steamy scenes. And the HEA in this book... STELLAR!  The story as a whole was chock full of fun twists and awesome action, and if you call the 'whodunit' at the end I will be surprised. I'm usually pretty good about figuring these things out ahead of time, but this one most definitely shocked me. :)  While there is some bleed over from the AMOVEO LEGEND series, the book reads fine as a stand alone. There are some returning characters and some references that will probably make more sense if you have read the other shifter series, but you won't be lost if you haven't and decide that you want to jump right into the DEAD IN THE CITY series. Recommended?  Absolutely. :)

Tall, Dark, and Vampire is the first book in the Dead in the City series but I have actually read 2 other books in this series. I have a great appreciation for the way that Sara Humphreys has sort of reinvented the whole vampire lore. Tall, Dark, and Vampire gives some interesting insight into the origin of vampires as well as angels. In addition, there’s mention of demons, shapeshifters, and other supernatural creatures. The fact that there is this whole other world of creatures that coexist is fascinating. Even more fascinating is that these creatures walk the earth along with humans who are totally oblivious of their existence yet humans have their own fairy tale stories of their existence. Tall, Dark, and Vampire focuses on three hundred-year-old vampire Olivia Hollingsworth and the emergence of some rogue vampires that are killing humans outside of her nightclub called The Coven in New York City. These killings appear to be related to one of Olivia’s younger progeny which brings unwanted attention to the actual coven. This attention comes from both the local PD and The Presidium which governs the vampires in that area. Even in the vampire world, there are laws that must be followed. In addition, Olivia is caught off-guard when she meets a homicide detective named Doug Paxton who unbeknownst to him is a reincarnation of her lost love. The two of them have been “dreaming” about each other for years. Of course, their undeniable attraction becomes a distraction because they both want answers and only one of them has centuries of wisdom and resources to figure it all out. The sexual tension between Doug and Olivia is thick and when they give into it, you will need a cold shower. Doug and Olivia are truly meant to be together and it’s easy to see why. When the mystery behind the rogue vampires is revealed, vampire lives are changed forever. I will make it a point to read any of the books in the series that I have missed because I just have to know everything else about the supernatural world that the author is willing to provide. Sara really knows how to create a paranormal world that makes sense without abandoning everything that we have come to know about it. **Personal Purchase**

Tall, Dark, and Vampire is the first in a spin-off series by the fab Sara Humphreys.  I’ll admit it took a bit for me to get into it but once I did I couldn’t put it down.  The characters are engaging and the story sucks you into a world of vampires, shape shifters and other creatures that go bump in the night.  Because it is a spin-off you don’t have that awkward getting to know the world that the story takes place in.  The author is already comfortable there and even if you haven’t read any of her other books you will be comfortable there too.  The story is fast paced and will keep you wondering just what is going to happen next.

A great new series by Sara Humphreys! Det. Douglas Paxton knew there was something off when he arrived at the nightclub known as The Coven and saw the redheaded beauty standing outside the club. The same beauty who has been haunting his dreams for years now. There was no possible way that she was real. But Doug also knew trouble when he saw it and this place was sending his cop-senses screaming that something was just not right. He had to get his head back into the game and stop focusing on her. People we dying and the killer’s trail was leading right to her doorstep. She might look like his dreamscape beauty, but she was also a possible suspect in the brutal slayings. Doug wasn’t the only one reeling from their first meeting. To Doug, Olivia was simply a woman he met in vivid dreams. For Olivia, Doug looks just like her great love who she lost the night she was made vampire 300 years ago. As Olivia comes to realize that Doug doesn’t just look like her true love, he is her love reincarnated. She also comes to realize that unless she is willing to turn him, she will be forced to someday watch him die once again. Although forcing a vampire life on Doug is the last thing she wants to do, when the killer leaves Doug for dead behind her nightclub, Olivia knows she won’t lose him again. When he wakes, Olivia finds that in fact Doug might never forgive her, especially when his turning is…off. He wakes too early from his turning, he has an older vamp’s control of his bloodlust, and his new abilities fall to him naturally…too naturally. Is there such a thing as a naturally born vampire? As Doug tries to adjust to what is happening to him, they still have a killer to find. A killer who seems to be bringing death right to Olivia’s front door. THOUGHTS: A great start to a great new series. There are a few campy vampire abilities, like flying; not changing to a bat, but just flying. Overall, the story was well told and kept your attention, and the characters were well written. Doug was a stand out character here: dedicated cop unaware of the supernatural, who drawn to the heroine through dreams. He was flawlessly turned into a vampire as if he had been turned hundreds of years ago and not just this morning. That alone kept you guessing as to what was up with Doug, let alone the whole “who is the killer” mystery. We also met many other characters who I am sure will be the focus of future novels. A great new paranormal series.

So...if it is written by Sara Humphreys, you can pretty much bet it is going to be fun, exciting, and awesome. This book was definitely all of that and then some! The whole bloodmates thing is fascinating, and something new for the world of vampires. I loved it! This group if characters is going to make a great series! I highly anticipate the next book!

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog I am so excited I’ve finally read a Sara Humphreys book! My OCD tells me that I’m cheating because I read book 1 in a spin off series. I may still be twitching about that, but I’ll get over it. After being on what felt like a paranormal fast, TALL, DARK AND VAMPIRE has rekindled my appetite for all things fangy and paranormal. First of all, I’m a fan of the night club setting for books. Charlaine Harris gave us Fangtasia, Ellen Schreiber wrote about The Coffin Club and J.R. Ward created Zero Sum. I love the paranormal clubs. A bit goth and full of lurking supernaturals. Now we get “The Coven” a hip NYC club run by vampires, and kickass chicks at that. As I said before, this book ties in with Ms. Humphreys “Amoveo Legend” books but it gives a glimpse of a different side of her supernatural world. Dead in the City is not about her shifters but more about vampires. Olivia is the club owner and also the ruler of the coven. She’s been celibate since she was turned because she lost her human love that same night. She’s also been taking in strays (making vampires of people who needed rescuing). And throughout all these centuries, she’s never forgotten her human love. However she has created some powerful enemies along the way. I’m a sucker for second chance romances and Olivia does get a second chance to be with the only man she’s ever loved. Doug may be human now but he’s had dreams about Olivia in vivid detail since he can remember. Now that he finally finds her, it’s in the middle of a murder investigation he’s leading which seems to center around her and her club. But the inevitable attraction and pull they have towards one another are greater than any risk and any danger there could be in them being together. Sizzling chemistry! Vampire politics, big bad councils, love and betrayal. TALL, DARK and VAMPIRE packs a punch of smexy and mystery that will leave you hooked for more. Definitely an enjoyable read which will make me rectify the fact that I haven’t read this author’s work before, sooner rather than later. *ARC provided by publisher

Olivia was in some of the Amoveo books . I really ;liked her and I loved this book. Doug is such a great guy and their previous love so strong he has come back to her in a another body so similar to the one she loved before there is no doubt who he is. This was so full of action and surprises I can't wait for the next one in this new series. Highly recommend both Ms Humphreys series.
