Overview

Hauptmann Rolf Leutnart is a German staff officer with the famed Afrika Korps and is General Erwin Rommel’s favorite interpreter, fluent in Italian, French, and English. Leutnart is assigned as the primary translator for both Italian and German senior officers.

While in Tunisia, Rolf meets and falls in love with Lorena Sebesta, an Italian Red Cross nurse. For her, however, the attraction is difficult, since she despises uniforms and especially Germans. However, the relationship grows and soon develops into a torrid love affair.

Later, Rolf is approached by several shadowy figures, who hint at things more sinister and possibly supernatural in Rolf’s background. He is tied to a birthmark in the shape of a wolf’s head, a secret society known only as the Red Pyramid, and an ancient curse from Egypt that has awaited his arrival for 5,000 years.

Here is a tale of love across time, challenged by the past, present and future. These characters interact amidst World War II, fighting for the Axis, the eventual losers of this terrible war. Yet they are human, caught up in the questions of right and wrong, evil faced off against good. The choices they make have personal and global impact.

A wonderful combination of historical fact and fantastic storytelling brings us Tangles of Truth. The reader is taken on a winding journey through the North African campaign, following our protagonist, chief interpreter to Rommel. This book does what few others do well: it convincingly portrays people that history has painted as evil, not as demons, but as individuals , fallible and filled with hopes and dreams. The heroes of this story grow and learn, gaining increasing measures of understanding and respect for each other and those around them. As events beyond their control spiral out of control, they attempt to make sense of a world increasingly devoid of it. While all of the characters begin to grasp the truth that led them on their adventures, only one truly gains enough perspective to appreciate everything they've experienced. I recommend this book to any fan of adventure, anyone who is interested in historical fiction, and most of all, I recommend this book to all hopeless romantics.

I'm a man of few words, but this is a great one. Recommended to all who read this note. The book is full of facts about the African Campaign of WWII, that I didn't know anything about.

Tangles of Truth is top-notch fiction, with plenty of action, some sword & scorcery fantasy thrown in, but in just the right measure & WWII battles in North Africa. The love interest is very satisfying too. I really enjoyed the historical aspects blended so well with fictional characters and events. This is a must read for people who want a good book to entertain.

Rommel & the Afrika Korps! I make a habit of buying any book that includes these subjects. However, I was in for a surprise. This book was excellent, with characters I liked or could identify with. Lots of action, plenty of hot romance & sex, but with a completely unexpected dash of fantasy. I won't spoil the ending, but it too was completely unexpected. When I closed the book, I was immediately questioning whether I had just read a novel, or some long lost history. The story was so real, that I wondered if it didn't really happen the way it was told.

I read Tangles with a keen interest in WWII history as well as Egyptian history. If there ever was a 'what if' book, this is it. I kept asking myself that through the whole book. The authors sense of historical fact is remarkable and when you blend that with a fictional scenario from the acient past and bring it up to the events that took place during those dark days, you have to ask yourself, what if? All in all, a love story is woven through the book that provides escape from the realities of war. I say realities because the author described the men, equipment and battle scenes in accurate detail. Love went on during those times also, so this could be a true story. Then you come face to face with evil...incarnate, from the past in line to Hitler. Tangles of Truth? You bet.
