Tchaikovsky, Liszt: First Piano Concertosby Alice Sara Ott
Twenty-two year-old piano sensation Alice Sara Ott expands her recorded repertoire on Deutsche Grammophon with this all-new recording of the first piano concertos of both Tchaikovsky and Liszt. Alice's previous two DG recordings of Chopin and Liszt recitals were met with critical and popular acclaim, and the pianist now presents herself in two explosive and technically demanding works. Alice is joined by Thomas Hengelbrock and the Münchner Philharmoniker for the recording.
Of Ott's performance of Liszt's First Concerto in Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Enquirer proclaimed: "In the first half, Ott displayed stunning technique. The pianist, of German and Japanese heritage, is an immense talent who effortlessly tackled cascades of glittering runs and was able to summon beautiful sonorities as she did it." The perfect introduction to her explosive artistry, the Liszt concerto is also featured on her new recording.
Paired with Liszt is Tchaikovsky's popular first concerto. Famous not only in concert halls but also in movies and popular culture, the work is given a fresh interpretation by Alice. Her highly personal performance gives the audience a chance to hear the work as if for the first time. The recording of the Tchaikovsky concerto is a live recording on this album, and Alice's extra enthusiasm while performing in front of an audience gives the entire performance added energy and intensity.
